Which is better than a phone or a tablet. Guide: what to choose a smartphone or tablet? Viewing the weather forecast

Let's talk about the choice of a tablet or smartphone, which turns out to be better, in what ways these two types of devices will differ.

Both a smartphone and a tablet have similar characteristics, for example, filling, appearance and capabilities. Now there are so many different models that it is very difficult for the user to choose.

The main difference

Even if the devices are somewhat similar, there are differences. They are as follows:

  • The tablet is more intended for entertainment, for example, watching videos, surfing the Internet, to a lesser extent it is suitable for communication;
  • A smartphone is a compact device designed for communication, and only then for other needs.

Screen and dimensions

These are the main differences in appearance devices. The average smartphone has a diagonal of 5 inches.

A rather small device of 4 inches is quite suitable for communication, otherwise it prefers entertainment and loves large screens, then 5-6 inches is suitable for such users.

As for tablets, the minimum screen indicator is 5 inches and above. For lovers of large screens - 12 inches.

I don't think you will have any problems with the screen in the future. By the way, in the next article I will write about what effective ways you can protect the screen of your smartphone or tablet.

Device characteristics

This point is very important, because if you choose a device at random, you will not know what you will get. These include: processor, battery capacity, volume random access memory and internal, the presence of auxiliary functions, for example, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a fingerprint scanner and much more.

There are three types of processors that smartphones are built on: MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Exynos. Each has its own merits and demerits.

Apple uses its own A-series chips.

Naturally, the processor has a clock speed, which mainly determines the performance of the device, the higher it is, the better, and the number of cores.

For example, let's take my Galaxy s5 smartphone and consider its technical specifications.

Type Smartphone Operating Android system 6.0.1 Housing Classic Control Sensor + Buttons Type Micro Sim Card SIM Number of SIM cards One Screen type SUPER AMOLED color Sensor type Capacitive, multitouch Image size 1920 × 1080 Diagonal 5.1 inch Photo 16 megapixels, flash Video Max. 4K (3840 × 2160) Front camera 2 megapixels Processor 2500 MHz Number of cores Four Built-in memory 16 GB RAM 2 GB Battery capacity 2800 mAh, removable Features Protection against dust, dirt and water IP67

These are not all characteristics, the main ones can be viewed on the website where you buy.

How a tablet differs from a smartphone: pros and cons

06/29/2018 Dmitry Vassiyarov's blog.

Greetings to my dear readers who want to discuss with me one of the most popular topics of our time: how does a tablet differ from a smartphone? It seems that these two devices are as similar as possible to each other, but this is what in some situations creates the problem of choice when you have to determine which gadget is better to buy. And here you really need to know all the nuances in order to make the right decision. Also, a clear understanding of the true purpose of these devices will allow you to use them with maximum efficiency.

Progress bringing devices closer

If you look into history and omit some conventions, then we can say that the tablet appeared as a more compact type of computer or, more precisely, a laptop.

It was the appearance in 2002 of the Microsoft Tablet PC hardware and software platform that can be considered the starting point for the development of tablet devices. The LCD has become an interactive touch-sensitive I / O device and therefore the need for a keypad has disappeared.

It seems to me that this is a defining indicator for a tablet, because if you add Claudia to its modern model, then the "tablet" turns into a laptop.

Smartphones have come a long way of evolution, which essentially began with the advent of mobile phones. Indeed, in comparison with conventional stationary models, they had a significant set additional functions, which already allowed them to be called a smart phone - a smart phone.

But the development of the hardware platform of such devices and the widespread use of the Internet in mobile networks pushed manufacturers to the idea of creating the most convenient device for communication, close in its functions to a computer.

This is how a class of communicators appeared, a distinctive feature of which was the presence of a full-fledged keyboard, an enlarged screen and its own operating system.

A striking example of this can be called the models of the Nokia 9000 series, which appeared in 1996.

The key moment in the development of tablets and smartphones were:

  • Creation of high-quality, relatively inexpensive touch screens (first resistive, and then capacitive);
  • The development of "proprietary" operating systems iOS and Windows mobile, as well as the emergence of telephone systems with open source Symbian and Android;
  • The emergence of a huge number of applications for different operating systems, allowing to significantly expand the functionality of devices;

Differences that matter

Against the background of these innovations, a gradual convergence of smartphones and tablets began, and today they are not much different. But still, there is a difference between these gadgets, and we'll figure it out now:

  • I'll start right away with the main function of a smartphone. It is designed for mobile GSM connection and it is the obligatory presence of a slot for SIM card turns your device into a phone. Of course, those who say that some tablets have the same option will also be right. But there it is done for the possibility of connecting the mobile Internet. Most modern models of smartphones provide for work with two SIM cards, which is certainly not the case in tablets.
  • The main feature by which at first glance you can distinguish a smartphone from a tablet is the size of the diagonal of the screen. In a phone this figure is 5-6 inches, in phablets that occupy an intermediate niche up to 6.9 ", and what is more than 7" is already called a tablet. Actually, this parameter determines the mobility of the device, the ability to put it in your pocket and it is convenient to hold it when making a call. But on the other hand, if you have a Tab with a large screen with a diagonal of 10 inches and above, you can get the most out of working on such a device, from surfing the web, or from viewing photos and video content. And typing from a touch keyboard on a large screen is much more convenient.
  • Since the screen is the most power-hungry element of both devices, its size, type and resolution significantly affect the autonomy of the device. Fortunately, for large display you can hide a voluminous battery. In smartphones, its capacity is 2000 - 4000 mAh, and in tablets it is twice that. As a result, parity in battery life is maintained between gadgets. But the battery charging time for tablets will be longer, and this is a tangible disadvantage. In addition, the new top-end smartphones use wireless storage, which is still a rarity for tablets.
  • There is one more nuance indirectly related to batteries. In most smartphones, a removable cover allows you to remove the battery for the purpose of restarting the device or recharging using the "toad". This feature is not available on tablets.
  • I have already mentioned about SIM cards, but now I want to touch upon other methods of communication. Almost all smartphones have modules for Bluetooth connection and GPS navigation. But, unfortunately, they are not present in all tablets (especially budget ones). But the large size of the tablets allows you to place additional ports, such as HDMI. This will allow you to easily connect the gadget to the TV and use it as a video or game console. Smart can also be connected to TV, if they both support the MHL protocol, but at the same time you will have a busy USB connector, which means that it will be impossible to recharge the phone while watching.
  • Cameras have become an integral component of any smartphone, and this has led to the disappearance of a whole class of devices - compact digital cameras "soap boxes". Now there is a serious struggle between manufacturers for the quality of the images obtained, so the capabilities of the main and front cameras, even on mid-budget smartphones, are simply amazing. But in tablets, cameras are noticeably worse in terms of their parameters, and many of them have only a simple front-facing camera for online video communication. This is understandable, taking pictures with a tablet is extremely inconvenient.
  • Almost all top-level tablets are equipped with cases with a keyboard that works via Bluetooth (for regular models, you can separately purchase such a device that matches the size). The design of the cover allows you to fix the screen in a comfortable position. Such a bundle already resembles a laptop and is an excellent option for solving office problems. It is also fashionable to connect a keyboard to a smartphone, there are even special compact versions of it, but it all looks somehow unnatural.
  • The functionality of smartphones and tablets is almost the same, especially when it comes to the respective models on iOS or Android. But on some tablets, Windows 10 is installed, and this turns them into a full-fledged tablet computer. Believe me in my experience, it is worth a lot, take at least office applications that are a pleasure to work with. In addition, you can put Photoshop and draw your masterpieces with a stylus. The smartphone, alas, is deprived of such opportunities.

And finally, information on the cost of smartphones and tablets. It depends on the stuffing of the devices, and there is no particular price difference between devices of the same category. But since we're talking about money, here's another helpful information: The touchscreen display is the most common problem with inaccurate handling and is therefore more costly to replace on a tablet as it is larger there.

I have listed the main and fundamental differences between a tablet and a smartphone. This can be useful when choosing between these devices. But, as a rule, they are a great complement to each other.

Don't forget this.

That's all.

I wish you good luck and see you soon on the pages of my blog.

There was a time when a customer, upon coming to a point of sale selling mobile phones and accessories, saw the difference between the devices that were presented in the shop windows. He has seen smartphones with displays up to 4 inches. He was looking at 7-inch tablet computers.

Only a few years had passed, and now the same buyer was in a quandary. In the sense that today on the market you can see so many gadgets that do not differ much from each other in their size, and even have approximately the same capabilities that it can be difficult to give preference to one of them. As they say, the eyes run up.

I must admit that nowadays there is no big difference between tablets and smartphones. It is simply erased before our eyes. There are tablet models that are just tiny. There are also oversized smartphones. Moreover, devices appeared that are hybrids of a smartphone and a tablet.

There are those among buyers who believe that choosing between one device and the other is not worth it. They are convinced that it is better to have both. However, not everyone can afford to implement such plans. And if, nevertheless, the situation is such that a choice must be made, then there is a great sense, without postponing indefinitely, to figure out which is better? Smartphone or tablet?

How are smartphones different from tablets?

Personal tablet computers and smartphones are somewhat similar and somewhat different. As for smartphones, the first step is to emphasize that such a device is a mobile phone, which is also endowed with the ability to perform basic computer functions.

Please note that, of course, there are flagships on the mobile device market. These are devices that have very good characteristics. And they run just as fast as some powerful computers.

The OS is preinstalled on smartphones. The operating system versions for smartphones are often updated. This allows you to get many new possibilities so that you can work with software that is more powerful.

At the same time, a smartphone can only be used as a mobile phone, of course, if you do not need to work with the functions of a personal computer. The gadget can be easily configured so that you can receive and send SMS messages and calls.

Now about the tablets. They have their own pre-installed operating system. Usually they are practically indistinguishable from those that are installed on smartphones.

The lion's share of modern tablets has the function of mobile phones. Moreover, they are even capable of supporting two SIM cards at once. However, one must understand that it will not be possible to comfortably conduct conversations using such a device. If we take video calls and calls, then it is more convenient to make them just on the tablet.

Working with the Internet

Which device will work best on the Internet? Don't expect a definite answer to this question. Indeed, in this case, it is necessary to take into account many nuances. And the first step is to know where and how often you plan to use your internet connection.

It makes sense to buy a tablet for the home Internet. Then you will be able to browse the web on a larger display. Also you will be able to have high-quality viewing of movies and videos. At home, you can connect to your router at any time. Due to this, you will have a good connection speed.

A display with a large diagonal will be able to display more information on the page. Also, a tablet is a good tool for reading news online.

In the event that you every now and then feel the need to surf the Internet outside the home, it is better to choose a smartphone. This compact gadget can be carried in your pocket with complete comfort.

Since Wi-Fi coverage is not available everywhere, in the case when the tablet computer does not support the SIM card, it will not work to access the global network.

Currently, with rare exceptions, all smartphones that are offered on the modern market are endowed with the ability to support multiple SIM cards at once. Moreover, different mobile operators... That is, you will have the opportunity to choose such a tariff for yourself to work in global network and calls, which will be as beneficial as possible.

Working with application software

What is the best way to work with specialized programs? Tablet or smartphone?

Both of these devices are widely used by users, because with their help you can do a lot. You can make tabular reports and presentations, create notes, do business.

With the use of postal services, you can quickly conduct business correspondence. You can work in office programs in order to create documents.

Work with cloud storages, get access to general editing of the same file.

For those who work a lot with documents, a tablet computer can be recommended. After all, he contains much more information on his screen. This information is easier to read. At the same time, work with reporting is simplified.

It is unlikely that a smartphone will be a suitable device for someone who works a lot with office software. At the same time, it must be emphasized that there are still many different things. software, designed to display work with documents on phones.

Unfortunately, the smartphone is the gadget with which to conduct business correspondence and doing other similar work is difficult and inconvenient. After all, it has a small display.

Shock resistance

Gadgets are constantly used in everyday life. After all, they are mobile. They can be carried from one place to another. And at the same time, there are no inconveniences. Insofar as mobile device we carry it with us all the time, then the likelihood that we accidentally drop it somewhere is very high.

Anyone who wants to have a device that you can firmly hold in your hand needs to buy a smartphone. It's harder to miss it, because you can always grip the phone tightly with your palm. You cannot grasp a tablet personal computer with your palm. It must be held with both hands. Secure fixation of the device is only possible in this way.

Taking photos and videos

Usually manufacturers install more than quality cameras... Both main and frontal. Even when the specifications claim the same number of megapixels, the quality of the frames received on two mobile devices may differ. And not in favor of the tablet.

This is because a smartphone has a structure type more like a camera. The phone is much easier to focus on the subject of a video or photograph. As for the tablet camera, it is primarily designed to conduct video conferencing.

Please note that there are smartphone models that can support video communication, despite the fact that there are front-camera.

Games

If the level of work with games is very important for someone, when he chooses a technique, then he can recommend a model with a powerful processor. In such cases, there must also be a large amount of RAM.

In order for the display of the game picture to be of high quality, the device must have good resolution screen. Usually, high-quality tablets of the middle class and more expensive class have similar characteristics.

A smartphone is fine for playing on it. However, we must admit that in this case, you need a wider screen. Let's say there are games in which there are many very different small details. In this case, their display will be better, of course, precisely on tablet personal computers.

Video editing

Anyone who is often involved in editing footage can be advised to buy a tablet. This device works well for this. It has a large display. And with its help, it will be very simple to process each frame of the video.

The software required for installation must be installed on both a tablet and a smartphone. Let's say you need to do some video editing on the go. In this case, it is better to give preference to a smartphone that has powerful characteristics. He will have the opportunity to complete the installation quickly and efficiently.

Phablet for those who find it difficult to choose

Which is better - a tablet or a smartphone? Let's say that someone was still unable to make their choice. If so, there is one good alternative for them. We are talking about phablets, which not so long ago began to be produced by manufacturers of mobile devices.

After all, phablets combine the functions of both tablets and phones as much as possible. What is the difference between a phablet and smart devices? There are no big differences. The phablet combines all the basic characteristics and features of a tablet and a smartphone.

Please note that this is the golden mean. After all, a phablet cannot be called a full-fledged smartphone, since its size is excessively large. At the same time, it cannot be called a tablet, as it is too small.

Phablet is a combination powerful characteristics with small dimensions and mobility. If we talk about the cost, then the purchase of such devices will cost significantly more expensive than smartphones... Phablets cost about the same as tablets. And sometimes more expensive.

From the point of view of some owners of phablets, these devices are not very convenient to use and hold in hand. However, on its display the ideal amount of information from the web pages is displayed.

What to choose - a smartphone or a tablet?

It is difficult for a modern person to do without a smartphone or tablet. When deciding to purchase the necessary gadget, a potential buyer invariably faces a dilemma: what to choose, a smartphone or a tablet?

What is the difference between a smartphone and a tablet?

Let's try to answer the question of what to buy, a tablet or a smartphone, by comparing a tablet and a smartphone.

Let's start the analysis by finding out what unites the two devices:

  • both devices have the same format and common functions (the ability to work with texts, images; play music and HD-video);
  • identical operating system, due to which a significant part of mobile applications compatible with both devices;
  • both smartphones and tablets have advanced functions: Internet connection, support for multimedia files, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, navigation on geographic maps.

Now let's note what is the difference between a tablet and a smartphone:

  • the main difference between a tablet and a smartphone is in the features. The smartphone is primarily used as a mobile phone, has a connection to cellular network, supports 3G. Tablets cannot be connected to 2G networks, and the 3G module is just an additional option;
  • dimensions and weight. Tablets are larger than smartphones, they have a larger display diagonal, although some tablets are miniature in size. In general, a small-sized smartphone is more convenient to carry with you, putting it in your pocket or handbag;
  • screen orientation. Usually the tablet screen is oriented horizontally, the smartphone screen is oriented vertically. Although almost all models provide the ability to rotate the image, the hardware controls are focused on ergonomics;
  • tablet platforms are more powerful than smartphones, in this regard, downloads of programs, videos, graphic images etc. pass faster, and their memory capacity is wider;
  • battery power. Smartphones come with low-capacity chargers; tablets require more powerful batteries. Accordingly, the power consumption of the smartphone is less;
  • display dimensions. The large display of the tablet has higher technical specifications, in particular the resolution. This makes it possible to work with any software. A small smartphone display is not convenient for typing long texts, video processing, creating presentations;
  • camera work. Smartphones have more advanced cameras that allow you to take great pictures;
  • a significant number of applications have been created for tablets, which enhances their work and play capabilities.

Thus, it is necessary to decide which is better, a smartphone or a tablet, on an individual basis, taking into account the main purposes of use. portable device... For those who need to communicate quite a lot on mobile communications and access the Internet for a short time, a smartphone is ideal.

If you constantly need a laptop, then it is better to purchase a tablet, since the large screen allows you to view and edit documents. Also, thanks to the excellent display, it is convenient to use the tablet for entertainment purposes (watching movies, listening to music, etc.)

Recently, the difference in smartphones and tablets is more and more erased: some tablet models are very tiny, and smartphones are oversized. Hybrids of a tablet and a smartphone have appeared.

Such a tablet has a niche that fits a smartphone. All information available on the smartphone is displayed on the tablet display.

In addition, by connecting an additional keyboard, the device turns into a netbook.

Also here you can find out which is better - a netbook or a tablet.

Is it better to buy a smartphone or a tablet? Review

This dilemma is confused with many people who are about to make a purchase. What to choose? May be better buy a tablet? He has such a large screen, it is convenient to read books, play games, write messages ...

Maybe better buy a smartphone? After all, it is so compact, fits into a pocket, lightweight, convenient.

And besides, it can do the same things as a tablet! Such thoughts are full of the heads of people who in despair stand in front of an electronics store window and try to weigh the pros and cons of both devices.

Before starting to disassemble the advantages and disadvantages of both options, I would like to immediately apologize for the fact that my review cannot claim to absolutely complete coverage of all areas of application of devices.

I, as an ordinary weighted average citizen, use devices for a very specific range of tasks.

I present them below so that you understand whether it is worth reading my opus, or you will have completely different tasks, and, therefore, different preferences.

What do I use my tablet and smartphone for?

  • Email,
  • the Internet,
  • watching films before going to bed (mostly educational, but also fictional films can be watched),
  • reading of books,
  • learning English,
  • tracking the statistics of my sites (I have more than two dozen of them - you need an eye and an eye for them!),
  • viewing the weather forecast,
  • case planning,
  • tracking earnings on contextual advertising,
  • taking pictures of interesting unexpected scenes when there is no camera at hand,
  • usage social networks(rarely),
  • communication with colleagues and file sharing,
  • calculator,
  • Dictaphone,
  • typing from an external keyboard,
  • using devices as routers to connect a laptop to the Internet (for example, when traveling).

Well, that is, perhaps, all the major tasks. I tried to run finances, but after I lost the results of several months while freezing, I no longer risk it.

I almost forgot - I sometimes call and receive phone calls 🙂

What I don’t do on my tablet - smartphone

  • I don’t play computer games, don’t excuse me, there’s no time,
  • I do not listen to music and audiobooks (although this is possible, I have a headphone-player for this - it is much more convenient),
  • I do not hang out in contact or other social networks (short-term visits take place, but I do not use it for a long time),
  • I do not use chats and other means of communication in real time,
  • I don’t listen to the radio (I need headphones for this, but I’m reluctant to mess with wires),
  • I may not do a million other things yet, but I tried to list the most popular ones.

What smartphone and tablet do I use

I would like to introduce the heroes of this article. This is not some picture from the Internet, but the very devices that I have the pleasure to use in my work.

So, tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000- is already clearly outdated model, which has served me faithfully for four years. Smartphone - Samsung Galaxy ACE 4 lite.

I paid exactly 20 thousand rubles for the first one. They just appeared then and were still expensive. The smartphone cost much less - about 4 thousand rubles. By technical specifications they are about the same, only for a 16Gb tablet internal memory against 8Gb for a smartphone. Otherwise (except for the size of course) they are almost twins - brothers.

Why did I buy a smartphone if I had a tablet?

This is a very good question. The fact is that in addition to the tablet, I had the simplest Nokia phone ... So, nothing special - just call and sometimes take a picture on occasion. But unfortunately he started having problems with incoming calls, so he had to think about a replacement.

At first I wanted to buy something very simple again. After all, I could then perform all the necessary actions on a tablet. But then I came to the conclusion that carrying a tablet (albeit small) with you is not always convenient. For example, when you go to the park to walk with your child, or walk with the dog ... it can be a shame to take your bag just to put your tablet there.

But if I had a smartphone, then everything would be completely different: after all, it is much lighter and more compact, and it can do everything the same as its more massive older brother. You can carry it with you everywhere and more quickly respond to incoming email or do many other useful things literally in between.

So the idea was born buy a smartphone instead of a regular phone.

I remember that I pondered for a long time what kind of smartphone to buy. They are very different. There are large screens, thin and stylish, but terribly expensive. There are very cheap ones - within 3 thousand rubles, but very tiny ones. On their small screens, everything would be too shallow.

As a result, standing in front of the window of the MediaMarkt store, I decided on a kind of middle ground. Samsung Galaxy ACE 4 lite seemed to me a good combination of a low price (about 4 thousand rubles.

) and a sufficient level of performance. In terms of power, it was almost the same as my tablet I bought four years ago.

Of course, today one could buy something more abruptly, but for solving my specific tasks, the power of the new smartphone was quite enough.

Further, I would not like to give here a detailed technical description of this particular smartphone. My task is different. I would like to find out, in principle, what is better to buy a person if he does not have either one or the other.

To do this, let's go over the tasks that were indicated earlier, find out on which device it is more convenient to perform them, and then summarize everything and decide which device is better.

Email

Of course, the ability to receive emails anytime and anywhere, wherever you are, is a great blessing. It happens (at least for me) that you have to respond quickly enough to some important e-mail. For example: a person bought my paid course, asks to confirm the receipt of money on the current account and send a login-password to access the course on the site.

Here you need to respond as quickly as possible so that the buyer does not have bad thoughts that he was simply thrown: they did not send the data after payment and do not answer letters.

Even if I can't write a long detailed letter with instructions on how to access the course on a small screen, I can at least confirm the receipt of money and promise to send a login-password as soon as I get to a normal computer.

It is important here that the person gets at least some answer as soon as possible. As a rule, he is ready to wait a little, if he knows that he is remembered and he will definitely receive a paid product (service).

Of course, writing on a larger tablet screen is somewhat more convenient, but given that a tablet, unlike a smartphone, is not always at hand, we put the first plus to the smartphone.

Internet

And here the tablet already wins. On its large screen, browsing the Internet is much more pleasant than on the microscopic screen of a smartphone. As for me, I generally only look at the news feed on my smartphone on the Internet. I usually leave more for a large laptop screen or the same tablet. So, plus gets a tablet. The score becomes 1: 1.

Watching movies before bed

Here, both devices have their pros and cons. The tablet has a larger screen and the smartphone is more compact. If we are talking about individual viewing (that is, you are not watching this film together or three with other viewers, then, in principle, the screen size does not matter, because even a small smartphone screen can be pulled closer to you and everything will be fine.

On the other hand, according to the experience of traveling on business trips, a smartphone is a more convenient device due to its compactness - there is no need to carry too much. However, the tablet wins in terms of battery life.

For example, a train from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod takes about 4 hours. During this time, you can have time to watch a couple of films. Panchet usually felt fine, but his smartphone barely made it to the end of the trip.

Of course, tablets and smartphones are very different in terms of battery life. In my specific case the tablet wins a little.

As a result, both devices are scored. The score becomes 2: 2.

Reading e-books

If a person has normal vision, then it will be convenient for him to read text from both a smartphone and a tablet. Another thing is that when reading text on a large tablet screen, your eyesight gets tired less. especially when reading in public transport, where the text constantly escapes the eye. Therefore, on the one hand, the plus must be placed on the tablet.

But the smartphone is always at hand. That is, to read a text on the subway or tram, it is enough to have a smartphone, and take a tablet with you if you still have to carry a large bag. If you are going somewhere light, then lugging a tablet with you just to read on the road is not always a hunt. Thus, we put both devices on an additional unit: "they both can."

Learning English

This task is actually quite capacious. In theory, it should include watching movies in English, and listening to podcasts, radio, reading news from sites, using an online dictionary, communicating via Skype with others like you ... All this theoretically can be done on both devices.

But again, there are pros and cons to each of them. A small smartphone is always with you: when you leave the house, even for a short time - to the bakery, you take it with you “by default” as money, keys and other absolutely necessary things.

Therefore, you can improve your English anywhere, even in line, even on the subway, at any time when you have a free minute.

A tablet is not such an easy thing. You can't take it to the bakery. On the other hand, a much larger screen provides greater comfort when reading or watching a movie.

Both devices receive one at a time: score: 4: 4.

Tracking the statistics of your sites

This is a rather specific task. It is relevant only for those who have sites that have a Yandex Metrica counter.

If so, then you can install a program on your smartphone or tablet that will display a small informer icon on the main screen.

It will show the number of visitors to your site for today and show the dynamics of traffic over the past seven days.

Data is updated from a certain frequency, therefore, by looking at the screen of your smartphone / tablet, you can monitor how your site or sites are being visited, if there are several of them.

It would seem why this is necessary. Many acquaintances. to whom I show these informers on the screen, they also ask the following question: “Why do you constantly monitor attendance?”.

I answer: there are two reasons:

On the one hand, this is great motivation. If I see that my sites have positive dynamics, that is, they are growing in terms of traffic, I will be happy to develop them further. This is similar, for example, to a gardener watching the growth of trees in his garden several times every day. He is just pleased to see how the trees are adding a few millimeters a day.

On the other hand, it is an excellent opportunity to timely detect a problem with the site and quickly solve it. For example, a couple of months ago a computer virus attacked one of my sites. You know that sites are hacked from time to time with the most vile intentions. On that day, I noticed that the counter at some point stopped at the reached value and stopped growing further.

I checked the site and did find the problem. The solution was very simple: just restored the site from backup for yesterday, when there was no virus yet, and everything worked again.

But if I looked at my sites every two or three months, as some comrades do, then at one point I would find there a breeding ground for infection, and the site itself would fail in the search engine rankings for a long time.

In this vein, it is highly advisable to look at Yandex Metrica informers from time to time during the day. Of course, it is much more convenient to use a smartphone for this. It is always at hand, and a large screen is not required for viewing.

The smartphone gets +1, and the score becomes 5: 4 in its favor.

Viewing the weather forecast

Again, this can be done on any device, but the smartphone is always nearby, which means it is more convenient to watch the weather with it than to postpone viewing until you return home, where the tablet is.

The score is 6: 4 on the crawl of a smartphone.

Business planning

In general, it is more convenient to use a large desktop computer or laptop for this purpose. On the keyboard, it is much more convenient to describe the task in detail and link it to a specific day of the week.

However, the specificity of my work is that I almost never have predetermined events, such as meetings, meetings, negotiations, etc.

I work in free schedule and I myself decide what to do and when I will do it. Thus, the main thing for me is not a calendar grid, but a simple list of tasks, preferably with a breakdown into subtasks.

Based on this, I make plans for a specific day.

A smartphone, in my particular case, is much more convenient for planning than a tablet. He is always with me. If somewhere on the street or while walking with a child in punk an idea came to me, I could not write it down right away, putting it off until I returned home and got to my tablet or large computer. Naturally, most of the great ideas were simply forgotten.

Since the smartphone appeared, which is always with me, I began to forget about important things, deeds, new ideas less often. Considering that. that my notes are constantly synchronized with the Google calendar, I know that even if I lose my smartphone, I will remember all my affairs and complete them in a timely manner. I give my smartphone a solid unit for planning. I mean: +1.

The score becomes 7: 4 in favor of the smartphone.

Tracking earnings on contextual advertising

This is also a thing that not everyone needs. I have websites that have ads that generate income for me. This income can be seen in the widget on the main screen of the tablet and smartphone, you just have to install a special program in them.

Since my smartphone is always with me, there are more opportunities for viewing statistics.

This does not affect the earnings itself, but, you know, it is nice to look at the widget and see that for a walk with the child I was paid a dollar, while we were having dinner - another dollar, etc.

Which is better to buy: a smartphone or a tablet?

If you are thinking about the fact that it is better for yourself to buy a smartphone or tablet, then it is very difficult to figure it out. But still, let's consider how the tablet differs from the notorious smartphone. So what should you give your preference to?

Undoubtedly, preference should come from capabilities and needs. But along with this, there are a number of reasons that determine the rationality of the criterion of preference between a tablet and a smartphone.

A significant difference between a tablet and a smartphone is hidden in the functionality of the device, and only for a small part of users the main role is played by the size and design of the gadget. The size of the device matters. And this case is no exception. The smartphone combines several functional parameters: Pocket PC and mobile device.

The introduction of various types of operating systems greatly increases the functional horizons of a smartphone, making it a small computer, which, with all this, acts as a portable gaming console. Quad-core processors from Quantum and Nvidia are optimized to run a variety of applications at the same time.

But what about the tablet's capabilities?

In terms of its technical capabilities, it can be equated to a personal computer. However, you can take it with you on long journeys. At the same time, the tablet battery has a good reserve: from five to nine hours of battery life. Some companies produce. However, the tablet is still equated closer to the computer.

The main disadvantages of tablets in relation to a smartphone are:

Large and therefore fragile display

Inconvenience or inability to use it like a telephone;

Not cheap service.

What are the disadvantages of a smartphone in relation to a tablet?

Despite the beautiful multimedia capabilities, smartphones have a number of undeniable drawbacks. The main one is the small size of the working area of the screen.

Agree, the five-inch display is not enough for processing photo and video applications, typing long texts or creating a presentation.

Despite the advanced operating systems, the smartphone is still a mega-functional phone, rather than a computer.

Another drawback that most buyers think about is the price of the device. For a smartphone with good technical and characteristics, you will have to pay a large amount of money out of your pocket and, as a result, you need to think very well: give a large part of your own savings for innovative technologies or save on some components of the device.

In fact, both devices, both a tablet and a smartphone, are very similar to each other, but according to the original idea of the manufacturers, they are designed for somewhat different (albeit very similar) tasks.

In view of this similarity, we often ask the question of which is better to buy a smartphone or tablet? In order to understand this, we need to understand the differences between both devices.

The very first difference that we can see is the size, because the smartphone is smaller and the tablet is larger, these differences in size also apply to the screens of both gadgets.

The differences are also in the parameters, in a smartphone they are most often higher and more productive, while tablets have more simple characteristics... A smartphone is essentially a phone for making calls and communication, and a tablet is a device for the Internet, watching videos, and so on.

Screen Size and Overall Dimensions: Specifications

If we touch on the screen sizes of two devices, then it should be understood that a tablet can have a screen up to 10ʺ, and in some cases even 12ʺ or more.

But, despite this, the tablet remains a mobile device, because it is convenient for us to take it with us on the road or travel. In view of this, the developers are trying to make even the largest tablets compact.

There are no bezel-less displays in this type of device yet, but the bezels around the screens are getting smaller.

The smartphone is more compact, comparable to a tablet, but its display is significantly smaller. Although the trend of modern fashion dictates new conditions, the diagonals of modern smartphones are growing.

If not long ago the average diagonal of a smartphone was 4-4.5ʺ, then today this figure is 5.5ʺ. At the same time, thanks to new technologies, the dimensions of the case do not significantly increase.

Screen matrix technologies for tablets and smartphones do not differ.

Operating system

The most important software tool for smartphones and tablets is the operating system. The vast majority of both types of gadgets use the Android system.

Outwardly, it is no different on either a smartphone or a tablet. But the optimization, after all, is somewhat different on both devices.

The branded skins will also differ from different manufacturers but not significantly.

Until recently, the competition of the Android OS was Windows system, but now it will be difficult to find at least some kind of smartphone on this system. But if we consider tablets, then Windows sometimes turns out to be a more convenient solution for them.

Most often this happens when we use a tablet computer in conjunction with a keyboard, making it look like a netbook.

Therefore, answering the question what better smartphone or a tablet, you need to clearly understand the purpose for which we are making a purchase.

cellular

Even in the case when we choose for ourselves a gadget that can make calls, we may still face the question of what to choose a tablet or a smartphone. Of course, if we talk about smartphones, then they simply do not exist without the ability to make a phone call or send SMS. But if we choose a tablet, we will need to pay special attention to this issue.

The fact is that some editions of tablet computers may not support working with a SIM card due to the fact that they simply do not have a slot for it.

Then the purchase may turn out to be a huge disappointment, because such a device is not capable of making calls, sending SMS notifications, and what is most sad, we will not be able to use 3G or 4G Internet.

And even if a SIM card slot is provided in the tablet, this is not a guarantee that we will be able to make calls using it, because sometimes a SIM card is needed only for mobile Internet.

Hardware power

Speed and performance are very important for us when choosing modern gadgets and devices. Therefore, it is very good if the applications of smartphones and tablets are launched without delays, lags and other troubles.

What is the difference between a smartphone and a tablet in terms of their hardware power and performance? Of course, if we need good gadget for social networks, surfing the Internet, we may not need a high-performance processor and endless amounts of memory.

However, if we need high characteristics and parameters, then in comparison of smartphones and tablets, smartphones often win.

If you pay attention to the same price of two devices, then usually the smartphone turns out to be more productive.

For them, budget devices with 8-core processes are already becoming the norm, and the amount of RAM at the level of 4-6 GB is not surprising to anyone. Tablet computers with similar parameters are usually the exception.

Battery

It is not hard to assume that a device with a large screen will generally consume more battery power.

Thus, a person inexperienced with other technical wisdom can assume that a tablet simply must have a battery with a significantly larger volume than a smartphone.

In fact, this is so, but only if we are considering tablets with a large diagonal, for example, at least 9.6ʺ. In this case, the most optimal and widespread capacity is at least 7,000 mAh. Smartphones with such a battery simply don't exist today.

But if we consider tablets 7-8ʺ, then the difference in the battery will either not be significant, or even in favor of the smartphone, since in addition to the screen, a powerful processor also greatly affects the charge consumption. In this matter, processors are more expensive, as a rule, in smartphones. Therefore, both for them and for tablets with small screen diagonals, the average battery capacity is 3,500-4,000 mAh.

Camera capabilities

Inexpensive cameras have ceased to be popular, because modern gadgets can completely replace them for us. Well, since we love taking photos and filming videos, cameras on modern smartphones and tablets are getting better and better.

If we consider a camera with average capabilities on a smartphone, then it will have a resolution of 13 megapixels, while the front camera will have 8 megapixels.

Due to the high popularity of selfies, the quality and resolution of front cameras is growing very quickly, and in some smartphones the front camera even surpasses the main one.

If we touch on the issue of tablet computers, then the main camera of average quality in this gadget will have a resolution of 5 megapixels, and the front one - 2 megapixels.

Therefore, if the choice is between devices with the condition of the need to take a high-quality photo or selfie, then it is better to stay on a smartphone.

It is worth noting that the front camera of the tablet, like a laptop, is designed specifically for video calling in instant messengers, but not for selfies. However, watching videos from a smartphone or tablet is more convenient on a tablet.

Working with programs

We use many different programs on our gadgets, be it a smartphone or a tablet computer. Each of them has its own nuances that make this software convenient or not convenient for us.

But if we talk about the convenience of using electronic applications on a smartphone or tablet, then here you need to take into account a lot of factors. Most devices run Android, so using many apps is very similar to both a smartphone and a tablet.

But if we use resource-intensive programs, then they will most likely work better on a smartphone, because this device is more productive.

If we touch, for example, office programs - spreadsheets and text editors, it is more convenient to use a tablet, especially in conjunction with a keyboard. In this case, work will be much more convenient and productive. It is also more convenient to read, for example, books or web pages using a tablet.

Games

We love to play! Absolutely every person loves games in their various forms, and it is simply pointless to argue with this.

Modern devices, in the form of smartphones, laptops, tablets, and so on, contribute to this hobby, especially when it comes to the topic of games for mobile devices. It is this area that is most popular and in demand today.

At the same time, we all understand that each game, for its full-fledged work, puts forward some requirements for the gadget that it must have.

If we are considering a time killer game, then special high demands she will not present to the device, so both a tablet and a smartphone are suitable for her. These are usually puzzles, solitaire games or 3 in a row.

But if we are considering high-performance games with realistic graphics and so on, then most often only a smartphone will be able to cope with them, and the tablet will either not launch it at all, or will launch it, but at the parameters below.

Repair

Battery. The degree of breakdown or wear of the battery in both devices is not much different. As you know, modern batteries have a certain charge and discharge resource, thus, over time, they lose their capacity, and the autonomy of the gadget becomes less. In this case, we need to either buy a new device or replace the battery.

Screen. The most vulnerable place, both in a smartphone and a tablet. It is the screen that undergoes the most frequent damage, and, accordingly, repair. The most unfortunate variant of a breakdown is damage to the matrix, because in this case, the sensor stops responding to commands, and the cost of repairs may even exceed the cost of the device itself.

Ease of use (for calls, for using the Internet)

Looking through the catalogs of smartphones and tablets, we are often looking for the most comfortable and convenient model for some of our own purposes. In this case, the goals may be different, and sometimes we combine several requirements for the same gadget.

Let's figure out which device will be more acceptable for calls, because, as we found out, you can call from both a smartphone and a tablet. In this matter, the dimensions of the device are extremely important, because we need to hold it to our ear with one hand, so most often compact smartphones are more comfortable.

However, the tablet can then be used with a headset.

We also use our gadgets for the Internet. We read information on websites, watch videos online, and so on. In this case, we are more interested in the large screen sizes that a tablet computer has. Thus, both smartphones and tablets are more convenient for one purpose or another.

Advantages and disadvantages

The ideal exists only in our imagination and may be in some fairy tales. Therefore, we must understand that both a smartphone and a tablet can have their own advantages and disadvantages, especially if we compare them with each other.

A clear advantage of the smartphone is its performance and the possibility of high-quality photography.

While a tablet computer is much more convenient for viewing these very photos due to its large screen, it is also much more convenient to use a tablet if we work in office applications.

If you think about the disadvantages of a smartphone, the first thing that comes to mind is the size of its screen.

It is no coincidence that large display sizes are becoming fashionable, because it is much more convenient to use a 6-6.5ʺ or even large screen, but compactness is also important, in this case, frameless display technology comes to the rescue.

The obvious disadvantage of a tablet in front of a smartphone may be its low performance, which is primarily designed for the needs of surfing the Internet and weak cameras.

conclusions

So what should you choose a smartphone or tablet? In the event that we first of all need a means of communication, then, of course, it is better to choose a smartphone, since it is more comfortable for calls. But if we need a gadget for surfing the Internet, watching videos, photos, for instant messengers, then better device than a tablet is hard to find today.

The choice of a smartphone looks more interesting even if you plan to take photographs or fashion selfies, because, as a rule, smartphone cameras are of much better quality than on tablets.

But if you choose a work device for office applications, then in this case the tablet is a priority, because by adding a keyboard to it, you can turn it into a netbook or laptop and work with text or spreadsheets.

Top 9 smartphone apps that come in handy in everyday life

Portable smart devices are widely used by modern people. Functionally, mobile devices can replace a computer. Many users wonder what is better - a smartphone or a tablet, on which device to choose for solving certain problems. Due to the similarity of the functions performed and integration trends in the development mobile technology it is difficult to understand what is the fundamental difference between the considered gadgets. However, it is there.

The word "smartphone" is formed from two English words smart and phone (smart phone). The name stuck to a cellular mobile phone with an operating system, endowed with the functions of a laptop. Based on the definition, it follows that that the main function of a smartphone is to provide communication.

The term "tablet" comes from the French word planchette ("tablet"). They are called a subspecies of a computer, made in the form of a compact candy bar in the "tablet" format with a touch screen. Due to its compact size, the tablet belongs to categories of mobile computers.

On a note! The most common operating systems for the gadgets in question are Android, Windows and iOS.

Main distinguishing features

Since the tablet is a laptop by definition, and is not intended for calls over the cellular network, not all models provide support for carrier cards and an earpiece. The exception is some models of tablets with phone function, in which the developers have provided for the possibility of voice communication. But such devices are separated into a separate subgroup called "tablet phones".

Important! The Laptop Slim PC supports IP telephony and conferencing via Skype or other similar applications. In this case, you may have to talk through headphones. Smart mobile phones support similar functionality; a headset is not required for communication.

An important point when answering the question of how a tablet differs from a smartphone is the screen size, and, as a result, dimensions and weight... A 7-inch screen diagonal is the smallest and most common size for tablets. On sale you can find devices with a screen of dimensions 8, 9.7, 10.1 inches. Smartphones can be compact with displays ranging from 4 to 5.5 inches, or large screens from 5.5 to 7 inches. The latter belong to a subgroup called the phablet (from the English words phone and tablet). A small mobile phone can be held in one hand and easily fits into a pocket during transportation. And to fix the tablet, you need both hands, to carry it you need a bag.

Another distinctive nuance is screen orientation... The smartphone display is oriented vertically, while its opponent's screen is oriented horizontally. Of course, the orientation can be changed, but by default it is exactly that, and the basic functionality is "sharpened" for this location.

Ease of use of functionality

To understand the difference between a smartphone and a tablet and determine which is better, let's look at various scenarios for using gadgets.

Surfing the internet

Both considered devices provide the user with access to the World Wide Web. For home internet the obvious advantage of a tablet over a smartphone is its large screen.

  1. The gadget allows you to comfortably watch movies and videos.
  2. It is more convenient to view the found text information on a large screen.
  3. The tablet monitor displays more text when reading online publications.
  4. In order to improve the speed of the Internet connection, Wi-Fi networks at home, it is easier to organize the connection of the device to the router.

The advantage of a smartphone for Internet access lies in its greater mobility when there is a need to access the network outside the home.

  1. Always at hand, as it fits easily in your pocket for transport.
  2. Due to the installation of SIM-cards, modern mobile phones can connect to the Internet using 3G / LTE technologies. The connection is high-speed almost anywhere, while Wi-Fi coverage cannot be organized everywhere.
  3. You can use the device as a Wi-Fi router for other mobile devices.

Working with text documents

Both gadgets can work with various office applications:

  • allow you to conduct business or private correspondence through mail programs or chats;
  • create, edit and store documents, tabular reports and any other notes for office work;
  • provide access to cloud data storage.

A tablet PC is more suitable for multitasking at home with text information. The device can be connect peripheral equipment: mouse, keyboard, MFP. The smartphone supports office applications, if necessary, you can do some urgent work outside the home with it, but it is not so convenient to look at the information displayed on the small screen.

Taking photos and videos

The functionality of photo and video shooting is supported by both considered portable devices. But in tablet PCs, cameras are inferior in performance to those with which smartphones are equipped.

According to the experience and feedback of the owners, a mobile phone is better adapted for this function:

  • it is easier to fix the gadget in your hands and it is easier to focus on the subject;
  • frames are obtained with better quality due to the better characteristics of the main camera.

On a note! It is more convenient to edit captured frames, edit video on a larger monitor.

Games

Playing games from your tablet is more interesting than from a smartphone. Users love a high-quality picture on a widescreen. This is especially important for games with a lot of small details. For lovers of simple arcade games, puzzle games, the screen of a modern mobile phone is quite suitable.

Hardware differences

The functional features of the comparison opponents are due to the hardware component. In the mid-price category (12-15 thousand rubles), the computing platform of tablets is practically not inferior in power budget smartphones for the same money:

  • central processor 4-8 cores with a frequency of 1.5-2.5 GHz;
  • RAM 1-3 GB.

The main differences between the tablet lie in the following nuances.

Other possibilities

Both devices can be used to work in a taxi with a customer support program. The important conditions for the successful operation of the gadget in this quality are as follows:

  • presence in the configuration modules for navigation(GPS and / or GLONASS);
  • powerful built-in antenna for communication;
  • capacious battery;
  • personal preference for screen size.

On a note! There are supporters of both devices among taxi drivers. Many people pay attention to two-in-one models: tablet phones and phablets.

Final conclusions

Each of the opponents discussed above is good: it has its own advantages in certain areas of application, but also not without its drawbacks. What to buy - each customer decides for himself, based on personal needs. It is worth remembering that for the successful operation of any mobile device it is important to choose the best rates.

Naturally, it does not occur to the consumer to compare two completely different devices in detail and step by step. But it happens to choose whether he needs this or that device to solve specific problems. The tablet and mobile phone are firmly entrenched in our life, and both endow it with a certain level of comfort. In conditions of constant development modern technologies the clear boundary between devices is blurring, at least in terms of functionality.

Definition

Telephone(in our context - mobile) - a communication device that allows, through connection to cellular networks, to transmit and receive sound and data packets over long distances.

Tablet(internet tablet) is a keyboard-less mobile computer made in a monoblock form factor.

Comparison

What is the fundamental difference between a tablet and a phone - two completely different but popular devices? The functional purpose of the phone is to receive and transmit voice calls by connecting to a cellular network. The functional purpose of the tablet is surfing the Internet and performing multimedia tasks. Most modern mobile phones allow you to run undemanding applications, games, view videos and photos, listen to music and radio. Some tablets allow you to make traditional calls and use other services of mobile operators.

Philips mobile phone

There was a time when mobile phones pushed for miniaturization. Today, with the advent of multimedia in phones, their sizes are increasing - primarily due to the growth of the screen diagonal. However, the largest phones are far from the size of even small tablets: a diagonal of 3.2 inches versus a 7-inch one. The ergonomics of the phones correspond to one-handed operation, while the tablet can only be operated with two. The vast majority of tablets use a touch screen as the main input device, and for phones this method is not the only one: many models are equipped with a keypad.

Samsung Tablet

In terms of software, the difference between a phone and a tablet is fundamental. The latter necessarily work under the control of a unified operating system, while phones are content with software shells. Accordingly, the capabilities of tablets in terms of installing applications, for example, are much wider.

The hardware stuffing of tablets always looks more solid: powerful processors, graphics chips, a large amount of RAM and significant amounts of internal storage. Phones do not need such a rich set, so their performance is minimal and is approximately on the same level. Mandatory for telephones are GSM / CDMA / analog communication module, microphone and voice speaker. Tablets do not need these elements, for them modules are included in the mandatory set wireless and communication ports for connecting to a computer. The phone is an energy-saving device with minimum-capacity batteries, in tablets the larger the battery, the better, but the most powerful ones do not last long, depending on the intensity of use.

Mobile phones are ten times cheaper than tablets, and today they occupy a separate niche in the electronics market: they have been replaced by smartphones. The users of these devices know what they want: high-quality communication, compactness, mobility and a little entertainment. Tablet users want primarily entertainment combined with business tasks, and cellular communication can only serve as a pleasant addition.

Conclusions site

  1. The phone is designed for voice communication, the tablet is for media and Internet access.
  2. The tablet is much larger than the phone.
  3. Entering information in the phone can be carried out both by keyboard and by means of a sensor, in a tablet - only a sensor.
  4. Tablets run operating systems, phones run software shells.
  5. The hardware platform of tablets is much more efficient than phones.
  6. For telephones, a module for connecting to GSM networks or similar, a microphone and a voice speaker is required.
  7. Phones are more energy efficient.
  8. Phones are cheaper.

Hard to imagine modern world without devices that provide communication or Internet access. For many people, this is no longer only a means of entertainment, but a necessary thing for work. The most popular devices for accessing the Internet or for communicating via mobile communications are and will be smartphones and tablets. Despite the fact that you will not surprise anyone with them, some people still confuse the two devices.

Smartphone

A smartphone is a mobile device that is designed for talking using a mobile network or sending SMS. Smartphone name can be broken down into two words - smart and phone... The first is translated "smart", the second "phone". In other words, a smartphone means a smart phone and this is very good characteristic... In addition, with their help, go online, perform various computing tasks, play, work, take photos and many other things.

These devices are characterized by the presence touch screen or a variant of the "form factor", that is, a device with a sliding keyboard of the "qwerty" type, that is, a full-fledged one with all the keys. The processor is responsible for all the work in the smartphone, which currently can have up to eight cores. In addition, the device is equipped with RAM and permanent memory. The first can reach 3 gigabytes, the second in currently practical is not limited. At least, it can always be expanded with memory cards of different sizes.

Currently, the maximum limit of supported memory cards is 2 terabytes... What is curious in the world of such memory cards has not yet been created, but smartphones that support them already exist. Along with the processor, there is a device called a coprocessor or graphics adapter. As the name implies, its task is to build an image. The coprocessor is especially important in games. To access the Internet, you can use 3 or 4G modules, that is Mobile Internet or connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Modern smartphones have very good cameras with large-format matrices, of course, it is still impossible to get pictures equal in quality to those from SLR cameras, but even without taking this into account, they turn out to be very high quality... At the same time, the processor allows you to make many interesting manipulations with them - change focus, shoot a panorama, take portraits and do many more interesting and useful things.

The thickness and diagonals of these devices are constantly changing, but the maximum size currently did not exceed 6.4 inches, and the thickness was at least 4.75 mm. The battery life of smartphones is constantly increasing and it is difficult to name specific numbers, but in active use smartphones from the middle digital segment can work for two days. In general, this parameter primarily depends on the battery.

At its core, the tablet is very much similar to the phone, and until recently their differences were that it was impossible to call from the tablet, and also it is larger. The first problem was solved and many tablets began to be equipped with a call function, so by and large the difference is only in size. To some extent, this is true, but if you dig deeper, there are still more differences. So, in simple terms, a tablet is a large smartphone or a small computer. Both statements are true to some extent, because tablets were intended to replace bulky laptops.

Due to their size, they are more convenient to carry with you, and the battery capacity plus the diagonal of the screen is enough to stay in touch or be able to work throughout the day. So, the tablet has all the same nodes as the smartphone. It has a processor and coprocessor, RAM and read-only memory, a Wi-Fi module, the ability to make calls or access the Internet via mobile network... Most tablets have built-in cameras, although, as a rule, unlike smartphones, they are located either on the back or on the front. Most often, only devices from expensive price segment both cameras have. Despite this, even in expensive models, the level of cameras does not reach the level of cameras in average smartphones. However, this is not the only difference.

In addition to the camera, a tablet is always larger than a smartphone. big size smartphone reaches 6.4 inches, then tablets start at 7 inches and end at 12th. In addition, many tablets have a docking station in the form of a keyboard, which makes the device small laptop and allows you to type texts. We can say that smartphones also have the ability to connect a keyboard, but in this case, keyboards are always third-party and are connected using Bluetooth. In tablets, such an opportunity is implemented constructively, while the battery life of the device increases, because all keyboards have their own battery. Most importantly, smartphones in general have a longer battery life than tablets, because a rare tablet can actively work for more than a day.

Comparing two completely different devices is a lesson for those who clearly define their requirements and tasks that will face electronics. Smartphone or tablet? Is the difference between the two significant in the context of a particular user operation? Both have entered our lives tightly, and sociologists even conduct research, how the owners of smartphones and tablets differ from each other. Today, there is no need to talk about competition and the displacement of this or that type of device: each of them has its own merits and each performs specific tasks.

Definition

Smartphone- a mobile phone running a third-party operating system and having the functionality of a pocket computer.

Tablet, or an Internet tablet (there are also graphical ones) - mobile computer, made in the monoblock form factor, with sufficient performance and functionality.

Comparison

The first, which sounds highly discriminatory, is the difference in size, weight and orientation. Tablets are usually physically larger than smartphones - depending on the diagonal of the screen, although you can sometimes see miniature firsts and giant second ones in shop windows. When performing most tasks on a tablet, the screen is oriented horizontally, on a smartphone - vertically (except for multimedia). Almost all models allow you to rotate the image on the screen in accordance with the physical position of the device, but the hardware controls are focused on ergonomics. In general, it is more convenient to hold a smartphone with one hand, a tablet with two.

The functional differences are fundamental. Smartphones necessarily function as mobile phones and connect to a cellular network. Most of them support 3G. Tablets, with rare exceptions, are deprived of the ability to connect to 2G networks, and the 3G module in them is an additional option.

If you dance exclusively from the tasks assigned to the device, then the tablet is more aimed at launching multimedia applications and full-fledged surfing on the Internet. A large screen allows you to comfortably work with any software, in addition, tablet screens have higher specifications, including resolution. As for the hardware component, the tablet platforms are a priori more powerful, although now this difference is gradually being smoothed out. Productive graphics processor, two or four central cores, a large amount of RAM and a decent amount of storage are present even in budget models. Only smartphones registered in the “low-end” niche and above can boast of the same wealth.

Another difference is the battery. Smartphones, due to their relative compactness, are equipped with low-capacity batteries, while tablets require more impressive power. A large screen is the most energy-consuming element of the device, therefore large diagonals have large batteries. The higher the performance of the device, the higher the power consumption. The more intensive the operation, the higher the energy consumption. Battery capacity is never sufficient.

The additional capabilities of both smartphones and tablets are not very wide. Cameras in both devices are available, but in many models of tablets they leave much to be desired, while in smartphones they are constantly being improved. Tablets are more often supplied additional devices entering information, for example, with stylus.

Conclusions site

  1. The tablet is larger than a smartphone and heavier.
  2. The tablet is more often oriented horizontally, while the smartphone is oriented vertically.
  3. The smartphone makes it possible to make calls and use other services of 2G networks.
  4. Most smartphones have a 3G module, most tablets it is optional.
  5. The tablet is more efficient and is built on a more powerful hardware platform.
  6. Smartphones are more energy efficient.
  7. Cameras in many entry-level tablet models.
