Huawei aims to occupy a niche in the professional mobile photography, equipping flagships with top-end cameras. The Honor 8 Pro is no exception.

Honor 8 Pro - camera review

The smartphone is equipped with a dual camera module with a 12MP sensor (color + black and white). The latter does not have the Bayer filter used to create color photographs.

Color camera

In daylight, the Honor 8 Pro's color camera provides ample detail and dynamic range. The noise level is, let's say, acceptable. Color reproduction is natural, without artificial color scuffing. The main drawback of a color camera is its lack of sharpness.

The dynamic range is impressive, but it's even more noticeable in black and white. The effect is achieved using HDR technologies. The EXIF \u200b\u200bfile of some photos often contained an HDR mark when the mode was turned off when shooting.

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) - a standard that allows you to add additional information to melia files, including photographs, - metadata - commenting this file... The file may contain information about shooting conditions, camera settings and parameters, authorship.

Note that the photos that did not contain HDR tags in the EXIF \u200b\u200bfile did not differ in quality from the HDR images. Therefore, we can assume that the smartphone determines the possible image quality by analyzing the scene in the frame, and applies HDR automatically to those files where the expected quality may be low.

HDR can be manually activated.

Aperture adjustment

The main goal of a monochrome camera is to improve the quality of images in low light conditions. By eliminating the RGB filter, more light enters the sensor, resulting in lower noise levels. The resulting image is then superimposed on a color photo taken by the main camera. The result is a high-contrast, bright, deep image with minimal noise.

It is the superposition of a black and white photograph on a color one that provides optical defocusing of the background of the photograph. A preview is available to the user to assess the quality of the future snapshot.

What photos can you get:

Photos with Honor 8 Pro in low light conditions

You can capture two types of night / evening shots with the Honor 8 Pro if you have a tripod or the ability to fix your smartphone.

You can choose automatic light graphics mode. In this case, the Honor 8 Pro will create a regular frame, and then it will only capture the lights, simulating a long shutter speed and creating professional shots, for example, of night highway lights.

Users also have access to a manual light setting mode to get brighter and more detailed night shots.

  • 1 photo - auto mode
  • 2 photo- manual setting

If you are familiar with the Pro settings, then Honor 8 Pro will allow you to take decent night and evening shots, regardless of the active camera module.

The detail in night photos is great, the noise level is low, and the colors are realistic and pleasing.

Now let's look at the same scenes taken with a monochrome camera:

Front camera Honor 8 Pro

The Honor 8 Pro has an 8MP front-facing camera that captures images with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. F / 2.0 aperture. Forced face enhancement algorithms are applied to photos to hide imperfections in skin and shadows. However, this approach erases a lot of details from the face, and so, the pictures can become too "artificial". We've seen the front-facing photo far worse than the Honor 8 Pro does. Judge for yourself:

Conclusions:

The Honor 8 Pro's camera doesn't offer anything outstanding unless you're a black and white aficionado. Pictures in daylight, evening and night lighting are of decent quality, if you do not find fault with the details. The camera copes with everyday shooting.

Where the Honor 8 Pro excels at producing black-and-white macro, bokeh or light graphics of great quality.

World market mobile phones and smartphones are constantly updated with new developments offered by well-known companies. There is practically no place for newcomers to this industry, nevertheless, Huawei, which appeared on the market not so long ago, is actively trying to take its place in the sun. To increase its market share, the company is constantly improving the design of its products, developing original cases for gadgets and improving the performance of smartphones.

The Honor brand is another way for Huawei to gain more space in the mobile market, and it has proven to be quite powerful. Just look at new smartphone Honor 8 Pro, which we'll review now. Those who have already had time to get to know the device better, knowingly called it a real iphone, only with a large screen and a range of possibilities. This comparison is due to a number of changes that have affected the new model of Honor. This is an increase in the size and resolution of the screen, and the installation of a top processor, and the use of the latest android version, and much more. But first things first.

Let's take a closer look at this original Huawei Honor device. We give an overview of its technical characteristics in the table.

If you compare specifications processor phone samsung galaxy s8 exynos and processor Huawei Honor 8 Pro, then you can see that they are almost identical, and the question arises: why are many willing to overpay for the name samsung, getting the same device parameters that the developer Huawei offers, but much cheaper?

It is also worth noting that the Huawei device perfectly supports memory cards of various sizes, so the amount of memory can be increased significantly. Honor 8 Pro, in comparison with other smartphones of the Huawei brand, can be called simply a revolutionary breakthrough in the improvement of smartphones. Thanks to the modern processor, the device works quickly. There are no problems with the lack of memory: the card has backup capabilities. Honor 8 Pro has a modern gPS navigator and A-GPS, it connects perfectly to the wireless network, BeiDou is also installed.

Equipment

Modern devices have approximately the same configuration. AND apple iphone x, and Huawei Honor 8 Pro, and other models are packed in the original box with the manufacturer's logo. The Honor 8 comes with a phone charger and a C-type USB cable. This model is adapted for fast charging, so in the box the buyer will find a special 18W adapter, which has much in common with the Super charger P10 power adapter.

The small compartment of the box, which is usually used for SIM cards or various documents, contains 2 special lenses. This is a feature this smartphone, so the buyer cannot immediately figure out why they are needed. At the very bottom of the package, you can find special VR glasses made of cardboard. It is not so difficult to assemble this set, but if you have any questions, you can always refer to the instructions that came with the device.

The standard equipment of Huawei Honor 8 Pro includes:

  • Huawei Honor 8 Pro device;
  • Special tool to remove the SIM card;
  • Device operating instructions;
  • Warranty coupon;
  • Charging for Honor 8 Pro 5V / 2A: 1.

Design

Despite the fact that Chinese phones Huawei has released more than one model, it is too early to talk about any special, exceptional design of smartphones. You could even say that the models were veiled copies of Samsung or Iphone, but Huawei experts attributed this to the practicality and convenience of competitors' designs, as well as the lack of a similar budget for creating an alternative, radically new style for their phones.

Nevertheless, the Chinese manufacturer is actively looking for individual characteristics. appearance for its gadgets, although it cannot be said that Huawei has problems with the number of sales. For example, the Huawei Honor 8 has a very interesting iridescent glass, but for some reason this design element has not passed to the Honor 8 Pro. Honor 8 Pro is again compared to the iPhone: the presence of a metal case, rounded edges and other familiar details resemble the latest models of iPhones.

Although Huawei devices have even more custom designs, just look at the unusual blue color of the device. It is eye-catching and looks very original. In the color scheme of the smartphone, you have a choice, because Huawei Honor 8 Pro is also available in black and gold. If we talk about the ergonomics of the device, then here it is in many ways superior to the popular iPhone. The Honor 8 Pro has a 2.5D exterior glass and metal has been used to create the back and side panels.

However, the new Huawei model has its drawbacks, one of which is the typical problem of all smartphones with a matte back panel - it gets dirty very quickly. The gadget is constantly in the hands of the user, and fingerprints gradually cover the entire panel. Yes, they may not stand out much, but getting rid of marks on the matte finish is not so easy. As for the oleophobic glass coating, the Honor 8 Pro is superior in quality to the one used for the P10 and P10 +.

The design of the body edges was based on a compromise solution. They cannot be called round, because neat metal fractures are noticeable on the side parts, but at the same time sharp corners are also absent here. All buttons are located on the right side of the phone, while on the left side there is only a slot for SIM cards. On the top panel of the gadget there is a microphone with a noise reduction system. There was also a place for an infrared transmitter. The fingerprint sensor is round. It can be found on the back of the phone.

Display

The display of this model differs from that of the Honor 8: its resolution is much better. If in figure eight it is 1080 pixels, then in 8 PRO - 1440 × 2560. Clearer and brighter images are, of course, good, but you should also take into account the fact that the higher the screen resolution, the more power is consumed, so the battery on such a phone will drain a little faster than on its predecessor.

As for the brightness indicators, here the manufacturers have surpassed themselves, the 560 Nit mark is really impressive. Huawei phone The Honor 8 Pro handles black tones very well, which gives very good image contrast as well as excellent sun visibility. If we talk about color rendition, then its indicators are also at the level, so the Honor 8 smartphone is a worthy competitor to devices of well-known brands.

Compared to Iphone 7 Plus, Samsung and others huawei smartphones The Honor 8 Pro has a higher maximum brightness, and in order to make the screen tones less cool, you just need to set the parameters manually. Here are the main indicators of the Honor 8 Pro display in the table.

Sound

Despite the fact that the Honor 8 Pro mobile device has a lot in common with the Huawei Mate 9, it still does not have two speakers. The characteristics of the Honor 8 Pro indicate that there is only one speaker in the device, which the manufacturers have placed at the bottom of the smartphone. This is not to say that this greatly affects the sound quality: the sound is clear, loud, you can listen to music, but on the Huawei Mate 9 the sound transmission is still better than here. However, it's worth noting that a number of modern phones have much lower sound quality and lower volume.

You can listen to music on Honor 8 Pro using your own player, which has a convenient, simple and quite nice interface. Additional manual settings it is absent, the virtual DTS system is either turned off completely, or also turned on. The phone has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The Honor 8 Pro has a voice recorder, which has excellent sensitivity and produces very good quality recordings. The gadget does not provide an FM radio, but now there are many applications that can replace the built-in program.

Cameras

With the Honor 8 Pro, photos are on par with digital cameras. This is due to the fact that Huawei has long paid great attention to improving not only the main camera. The mechanism itself for creating a camera in the 8 Pro model is the same as in the simple eight and in the Huawei P9. The phone has two camera sensors that measure 1 / 2.9 inches. One sensor concentrates on black and white, and the other on color, therefore it has increased sensitivity. But the lenses of the 12 megapixel camera are the same, having an aperture ratio of F / 2.4.

In almost all Chinese smartphones, at the time of using the camera, the data of both sensors are combined using special algorithms. This affects the quality of photos: the clarity and contrast of the image is increased. Therefore, the overall result is better than when using a universal 12-pixel photosensor. In addition, in 8 PRO, manufacturers have added the ability to use monochrome mode, which was absent in the previous eight.

There is no autofocus in Huawei Honor 8 Pro, but the dual camera perfectly simulates deep sharpness and has good color gamut. This allows you to create the effect of blurring the background and emphasize the main subject, or, conversely, focus on those details that are located far from the camera. The big plus is that the focus point can be selected after the shot has been taken. This gives the impression that the image was created by a real professional.

Memory and memory card

The RAM of the Huawei Honor 8 Pro device is six gigabytes, while the internal memory is 64 gigabytes. This suggests that the phone can be used to store a huge amount of information. If this space is not enough, you can use a memory card. It is very easy to install and quickly synchronizes with the gadget. The memory card can be up to 256 gigabytes. Honor 8 Pro reads information from the built-in memory at the same speed as the latest models of smartphones from well-known manufacturers.

Communication

The Honor 8 Pro model has two SIM card slots, as well as a special nFC module... Manufacturers have also made sure that the device supports high-speed networks such as LTE-Advanced. Various tests have shown that the device functions perfectly during a call, there are no problems with audibility. The loudspeaker volume is moderate and the sound transmission is clear.

Battery life and performance

Honor 8 Pro is designed to make the smartphone as comfortable as possible for the user. With the help of a special software shell EMUI 5.1, manufacturers were able to improve the operation of the device, namely, to minimize the likelihood of a decrease in its performance until the phone is overloaded with data. After all, performance itself is often related to how much free space is on the smartphone, and software constantly busy monitoring user actions.

Gradually, the smartphone remembers which applications its owner uses and approximately at what time. This will help him to automatically load them into RAM at the right time, predicting the actions of a person, who, in turn, will be able to launch the program in a few seconds. By the way, Huawei Honor 8 Pro works great with usb otg, so you can easily print documents from it, transfer files to any media or scan an image.

Thanks to a powerful 4000 mAh battery, the smartphone can work autonomously for 48 hours.

operating system

The smartphone runs on the Android 7.0 operating system using the improved EMUI 5.1 software shell, which improves the system almost to the level of android oreo. Features of such an operating system:

  • There are two desktop options: one contains applications, the other contains a menu button;
  • You can choose the type of notification, for example, only numbers or only signs, or, in principle, refuse them;
  • Now you can work on your phone without removing your gloves;
  • In order to save the application to the cache, just click on the lock icon.

Outcome

Having studied in detail the features of the Huawei Honor 8 Pro device in comparison with models of a similar type from other manufacturers, we can say that a modern Chinese device is practically in no way inferior to competitors, but its price is much more acceptable. The main characteristics of Honor 8 PRO indicate that this smartphone has excellent performance, high-quality manufacturing and is endowed with all the necessary functions.

Recently, consumers have been paying great attention to the quality of photos taken with a smartphone. The dual camera module is one of the advantages of this phone, so in comparison with phones from other brands, the Huawei Honor 8 Pro camera is in no way inferior to them.

Video review Huawei Honor 8 Pro

Further in the video, you can see the Huawei Honor 8 Pro camera in action, as well as get acquainted with all the parameters of the smartphone visually. The video review is useful for everyone who is going to buy a Huawei phone and is thinking about purchasing the Huawei Honor 8 Pro.

Honor 8 Pro Is a flagship functional device with an attractive design. The phone is available in three colors: black, gold and blue. Brushed metal and rounded edges add a certain elegance and comfort to the device. It also fits perfectly in the hand. The device has a spacious screen (5.7 ″), medium dimensions (157 × 78 × 6.97 mm) and a dual camera (12 Mp + 12 Mp), which does not protrude beyond the body.

Externally, the device is considered the brightest representative of this series. And despite its sophistication, the phone is noticeably heavy. True, this does not interfere with holding it in your hand, the surface is not slippery. For convenience, the metal surface has been high pressure air polished and sandblasted. Very pretty, but your fingerprints are more visible on such a surface. At the front, there is a rounded 2.5D glass over the entire surface of the phone, and right there you can find a front camera with 8MP. There are no external control buttons, only the on-screen version and side edges (Power and volume control).

The rear panel houses a standard fingerprint scanner. There were no complaints about the speed of his work, everything is clear and fast. He can also control the camera, scroll, answer incoming calls, turn off the alarm. The control rockers are located on the right side, they are noticeably stiff when pressed, but this does not interfere with their use. And a hybrid slot for two SIM cards or for a SIM card and memory card. The lower side panel is equipped with a USB Type-C connector, a main speaker, a spoken microphone and a 3.5mm headphone jack; one user notes the disadvantage that the sound in the headphones is not very loud.

The flagship smartphone Huawei Honor 8 Pro is well worth the money it confidently keeps the brand and is not inferior in its main parameters to more eminent global brands, but at the price it quite seriously competes, although it costs a little less. Exclusive unique body, hardware, high quality screen with Quad HD resolution, dual camera, which gives excellent picture quality - these are just a few of the advantages of this phone. A powerful 4000 mAh battery will allow you to work with the device for more than a day without recharging. If you are looking for good phonewhich corresponds to the Pro mark, take a closer look at the purchase, it remains relevant for 2018.

Honor 8 Pro uses the same hardware for the main camera as in last year's flagship Huawei P9 and Honor 8. The smartphone is equipped with two 1 / 2.9-inch sensors with a resolution of 12 megapixels, one of them is black and white with increased light sensitivity, and the same lenses with aperture F2.2. Front-camera Honor 8 Pro 8-megapixel with F2.4 aperture, no autofocus.

As in other "dual-camera" flagships of the Chinese manufacturer, the data from the two sensors are combined at the time of shooting by special algorithms. The result is a sharper and more contrasty picture than a camera with a single, versatile 12-megapixel photosensor could do. The Leica Honor 8 Pro, unlike the P10, has not been branded, but in shooting scenarios, you can choose monochrome mode, which is not available in the Honor 8.

The second "feature" of the dual camera: the ability to simulate the depth of field as in professional photographic lenses. The background is blurred, emphasizing the objects in the foreground, or conversely, focus is shifted to objects far from the subject. However, you can select the focus point after shooting by opening the photo in Gallery. But the algorithm that determines what is closer to the lens and what is next does not work flawlessly, sometimes referring areas with foreground objects to the background and blurring them. However, the iPhone 7 Plus () faces the same problems.

In terms of picture quality, the Honor 8 Pro is definitely a device from the major league of photo flags along with the iPhone 7, Galaxy S7 or Huawei P10. Dynamic range, contrast, color saturation - everything is at the highest level, and not only in sunny weather, but also when the sky is overcast. In many situations, the result is even subjectively more pleasant than the iPhone 7 Plus tending towards a more severely realistic and less dynamic picture. At the same time, comparing the photo capabilities of the new product with the Huawei Mate 9, one cannot fail to notice the details worse than in the flagship phablet (and even worse at the edges of the picture than in the center), as well as less impressive results at night (at least at shooting without a tripod, handheld).

The Mate 9 wins due to two factors: the 20-megapixel monochrome sensor (instead of the 12-megapixel in the Honor 8 Pro) and the presence of an optical stabilization system. The Honor 8 Pro does not have one, and in many pictures taken at dusk or indoors, this is noticeable. On the other hand, most of the drawbacks like noise (or the results of overly active struggle of algorithms with it) are noticeable only at 100% magnification. When viewed on a smartphone or even in full screen mode on a 24-inch FullHD computer monitor, they are not visible, the photos make a very good impression by smartphone standards.

Software features

Honor 8 Pro runs on Android 7.0, the standard interface of which is radically changed by Huawei's proprietary software shell, EMUI 5.1. It looks like this (click to enlarge):

Huawei representatives note one feature of EMUI 5.1: algorithms are embedded in the software shell designed to avoid a decrease in smartphone performance as it fills with applications and data. Fragmentation "inhibits" devices file systemwhich EMUI fights against. In addition, the software monitors user actions - when which applications are launched. Having "learned" the owner's habits, the smartphone will be able to predict the launch of the application in a certain period of time and will load it into RAM in advance. As a result, for the user, the launch of the program will occur almost instantly. However, I didn’t find any reason to find fault with the device's performance, programs start very quickly.

Competitors, conclusions

Not trying to compete with the flaunting screens in the entire front panel of the novelties of Samsung or LG, Honor 8 Pro, sales of which start at 34,990 rubles, comes on the heels of last year as painfully as possible. samsung flagship, The Galaxy S7 Edge, which the Korean company is highly counting on for continued interest this year. The Honor 8 Pro has a larger screen and a comparable camera and better performance. But there is also a minus compared to last year's "Korean" - the lack of water protection, as in the flagship Huawei P10 and P10 Plus.

Chinese phablets with QHD screens and moderate price tags (like the Alcatel Idol 4S, ZTE Axon 7 or Meizu Pro 6 Plus) will now also have to make room: they will not be able to sell them for the same price in the market where the Honor 8 Pro is. And it will be problematic for Lenovo to keep the price of Motorola Moto Z - an excellent device in many ways, but with not the most outstanding photographic abilities - at a level higher than the one set by the Honor 8 Pro. And, of course, Huawei has never been so close to the fact that sales of flagships of the "main" brand began to suffer from the popularity of the flagship of the Honor line. When choosing between the Honor 8 Pro and the Huawei P10 Plus, many will likely prefer the former over the latter.

In general, if you need a convenient and beautiful smartphone with maximum performance, a truly large screen, virtual reality support and one of the best cameras on the market, but pay for apple devices or Samsung for at least 20,000 rubles there is no more desire, Honor 8 Pro is one of the best options today. At least, if you limit the choice of smartphones that are officially sold in Russia and have a manufacturer's warranty.

Let's sum up the Honor 8 Pro review.

Pros:

  • Beautiful and fairly compact body for a 5.7-inch screen
  • Flagship performance at non-flagship price
  • One of the best cameras on the market
  • Can be used with virtual reality headsets

Minuses:

  • No water protection
  • Not as comfortable to hold in the hand as narrower smartphones with a "bezel-less" design (and also "slippery")
  • EMUI is evolving in the right direction, but from my point of view, it is still not as beautiful, concise, and efficient to use as stock Android

A subsidiary of Huawei, which produces products under the Honor brand, is bringing a new top-end smartphone to the market. Based on the test results, we can say that the 6-inch Honor 8 Pro is another step in the direction of class upgrading and a good alternative to many expensive competing models. Nevertheless, the new smartphone failed to become the real successor to the hit in terms of price-quality ratio, Honor 8, as the Chinese are now asking too much money for it.

Honor 8 Pro: top-end equipment

For its top model Honor 8 Pro with excellent workmanship, Honor asks 35,000 rubles. This is a pretty strong statement from a manufacturer that stood out from the competition with its excellent phones for reasonable money. Thus, the novelty did not manage to become a hit in terms of value for money, but it still represents good smartphone high class at the right price.

The Honor 8 Pro is the successor and has been improved a lot. The front panel of a slim body with aluminum parts houses a 5.7-inch display. The high resolution (2560x1440 pixels, QHD) provides a high-definition picture that is pleasing to the eye. Inside is a high-performance HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor developed by Huawei, which has a clock speed of up to 2.4 GHz.

CPU support is provided by 6 GB of RAM. All this forms a powerful combination that allows operating system Android 7 with universal user interface EMUI 5 is fast and very smooth. A small pleasant bonus: the package (if you order a smartphone in the digital online store shop.huawei.ru) includes: Honor Band A1 bracelet, car holder and case, as well as a monopod tripod.

The Honor 8 Pro offers a total of 64GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and Dual-SIM, as well as WLAN-ac, USB Typ-C and a fingerprint reader. Long time autonomous work the novelty should be provided with a 4000 mAh battery.

This assumption is confirmed by our test results: a charging time of 1 hour 53 minutes is really good, but 9 hours 18 minutes of web surfing is still a decent figure, but from such a large battery we expected endurance for at least one more an hour more. In particular, the 3000 mAh battery of the HTC U11, for example, lasts more than 10 hours of continuous web surfing.

Honor 8 Pro: good dual cameras

Other items of functional equipment include a dual camera with 12-megapixel modules, which, according to the manufacturer, are the same as in the previous model. However, something is done differently here: test shots taken in the automatic mode of the camera are now not as sharp as in the case of Honor 8. Only if you adjust the shooting parameters manually, the quality of the pictures will be optimal. The manufacturer continues to refuse to integrate an optical image stabilizer.

Alternative options

OnePlus 3T 128GB

For the 64GB version of the powerful one with an excellent camera, you will have to pay an average of 25,500 rubles, for the 128GB version - 29,500 rubles. In this case, to purchase, you will have to turn to online stores.

Honor 8

Whoever can refuse the innovations of the Pro-version in favor of a lower cost, in the face of the previous model, which costs 22,000 rubles, will find another good smartphone in an elegant design.
