The phone does not catch the Wi-Fi network. Why won't my phone pick up home Wi-Fi and how to fix the problem? We select the Wi-Fi radio channel

Even 10 years ago, a wireless network at home was the lot of only advanced users who were ready to overpay several thousand for a radio module in a modem or router.
Today, almost every apartment in a typical high-rise building has a WiFi access point.
In general, this is good - people are no longer tied to wires: you can watch videos in bed before going to bed or read the news on a tablet with a cup of morning coffee. But on the other hand, a number of new problems arise that, in principle, cannot arise with conventional cable networks. One of these - poorly catches Wi-Fi at home or in the apartment.

The whole difficulty is that the user is left with this problem "one on one": the provider's technical support will not deal with this, because it is not their problem, but service center can only take your router or modem for testing and issue a conclusion about its serviceability or breakdown. They won't deal with a working device at all. Meanwhile, the main reasons for poor reception of Wi-Fi not that numerous. Let's list them.

The frequency range is overloaded

This is the most common reason for which the residents of apartment buildings suffer. The fact is that the 2.4 GHz band, which is used by ordinary access points on routers and modems, has a limited number of radio channels. There are 13 of them in the Russian segment, and in Europe, for example, even less - only 11. And non-overlapping, that is, those that do not influence each other - in general, there are only 3.
Now start searching for networks on your laptop or phone.

If about 10 access points are found, approximately as in the screenshot above, then you shouldn't be surprised that Wi-Fi does not catch well at home! The reason - the range is overloaded! And the more points there are in the neighborhood, the worse your reception will be. Many forums and blogs advise trying to select channels in the hope of catching a less busy one. I think this is useless, because with such a density of access points, the load of each of the radio channels changes several times a day, which means that all the work on the selection will turn out to be stupid. There is a way out of the situation, but it will be expensive - this is a transition to another WiFi range - 5 GHz.

It is practically all free and problems with crossing frequencies will not arise for a very long time. Unfortunately, you have to fork out for a new router (at least 3000-4000 rubles) and Wi-Fi adapters for all devices (1000-1500 rubles apiece). But the problem with the "neighbors" will be completely solved.

Incorrect router location

This is the reason for the bad reception wiFi signal is also very common both in apartments and in private houses. The culprit here is most often the installer from the provider. To put the router faster and save twisted pair, they put the access device either right at once in the corridor or in the nearest room. After that, they put a laptop next to it, set up access and show it to the subscriber. By itself, everything works fine and the master is quickly removed. And then the most "fun" begins - the user discovers that in the distant rooms of the house he catches Wi-Fi very badly, or there is no reception at all. But you just had to spend an extra 5-10 minutes and choose the right location for the access point. In the apartment it will look like this:

That is, you need to put the AP so that it covers the dwelling as much as possible. You can walk around the corners with your phone or tablet and check where the signal level is, and then adjust the location of the router taking into account the required coverage area.

In a large private home, the situation can be more complicated. If it has several floors and concrete floors, then it is best to additionally install WiFi repeaters - repeaters on the upper floors.

Connecting them to the main router not via WDS, but with a cable, will avoid a loss in speed.

Advice: Never try to bring your laptop, tablet or phone as close to the access point as possible - the effect can be completely opposite: the signal quality can become even worse than it was at a distance. There must be a distance of at least a couple of meters between the devices.

Router software settings

Any wireless WiFi access point is a combination of not only hardware, but also software parameters, each of which can affect the quality of the wireless network coverage. Incorrect configuration or selection of device characteristics can easily cause poor Wi-Fi to catch on connected clients. So, on many modern routers, in the advanced settings of the wireless module, you can find the parameter Transmit Power Is the signal strength with which the access point broadcasts WiFi.

I have repeatedly met devices where it was exposed at 40% or even only 20%. This may be enough within one room, but in the neighboring rooms the signal level will be low. To fix this, try increasing the "Transmit Power" parameter gradually and check the result. It is likely that you will have to put everything 100%.

The second parameter, which also has a very significant effect on the coverage area and the data transfer rate in a wireless network, is Mode... The fastest and longest "range" is the 802.11N standard.

Therefore, if your Wi-Fi network does not catch well at home, try forcibly setting the "802.11N only" mode. The fact is that due to some circumstances, in mixed mode (B / G / N), the access point can switch to a slower mode G. Accordingly, the quality of the network coverage will be lower.

Weak antenna

Now let's go directly to the hardware part of the access point. Many users, having bought the simplest and cheapest router, hope that it will give out a signal like a powerful military radar, breaking through all walls and ceilings in an apartment or house.
Let's take a look at a typical representative of the economy class - the D-Link DIR-300 D1 wireless router.

As you can see, it does not have external antennas and there is no even a connector for their connection. A weak 2 dBi antenna is hidden inside. It is quite enough for a one-room apartment. And only ... For a large "three-ruble note" or, even more so, a private house, the power of this device is not enough at all, which means you have to buy something more powerful. For example, let's look at the same model - ASUS RT-N12:

On the left you can see a simple version with 3 dBi antennas, which is suitable for a small apartment. And here on the right is the same router, but already a modification with amplified antennas at 9dBi, which should be quite enough for a large private house.

Do not forget that in order to improve the quality of work in wiFi networks, you can strengthen not only the router. An additional antenna can also be connected to the computer's wireless adapter:

But the owners of laptops and netbooks are not lucky - their devices do not have an RP-SMA connector, which means that connecting an external antenna is impossible in this case.

Note: If your range is overloaded, which I talked about at the very beginning of the article, and you hope to solve the problem of poor Wi-Fi reception by replacing the router antennas with more powerful ones, do not waste your money, because this most likely will not help you. The "noise" of the air will not go anywhere, which means that even if the signal level becomes higher, the data transfer rate and stability will constantly drop. In addition, the so-called "cold war" may begin with your neighbors, when everyone will different ways amplify the signal. And the solution, in fact, is only one - the transition to an extended range.

Hardware malfunction of the device

Do not forget that bad quality of soldering contacts can be the cause of a bad signal of the wireless network. A friend of mine shoveled his entire network at home, changed the router several times until he accidentally discovered that the connected iPhone was working perfectly, and the laptop practically did not see the network. As it turned out, from the shaking in the bag, the poorly soldered contact of the internal antenna of the laptop fell off and, accordingly, the adapter began to catch the Wi-Fi home network very badly.
By the way, I have repeatedly heard that on many smartphones and tablets, both cheap and expensive, there were similar cases.
So, if you suddenly have such suspicions, just connect another wireless device to the access point and watch it work. It will immediately become clear who is the culprit of the problem!

Does not detect, turns off, does not catch wi-fi.

Many users face a problem when phone or tablet on android base begins to be capricious. It seems that he did not fall anywhere and did not "watered" with anything, but it does not work as it should.

For example, the device has problems receiving with wi-fi... This could be due to:

1st: Software glitch - i.e. the problem is a software failure

2nd: Hardware failure - i.e. the problem lies in the "hardware" (that is, it requires replacement or restoration of spare parts for the gadget)

However, do not rush to get upset - in 90% of cases with problems wi-fi smartphone or android tablet is to blame software glitch, which you can easily fix on your own.

We fix the software glitch:

Method 1.Quite simple - go to "Settings"find there « backup and reset "where you choose full reset settings with deletion of all data. Be careful, the use of this method is often effective, but it entails the deletion of all photos, contacts, passwords, music, games, videos and, in general, all information stored on your smartphone e or tablet e. Therefore, first save everything you need by connecting the gadget to your computer. If this method does not suit you, or if the problem persists after it, see Method 2.

Method 2.

Based on solving network communication and reception problems phone s and tablet based Android method introduction of additional software. Utilities that control all processes inside gadgets. Today, there are quite a few of them, however, the fewer functions an application contains, the more, as a rule, it is effective. The best controls the system functions is a small and easy-to-use, free utility for Android devices. Download app from Google play and you can see its additional options in the description. After installing the application, all that remains is to launch it. Further, from you, in principle, nothing else is required. The application will completely take over the control of the device's functions. (By the way, among other things, the gadget will start charging 20% \u200b\u200bfaster, and its performance will also significantly increase, which will affect the loading speed and operation of all applications, games, and the system as a whole. On average, after scanning, the system works on 50% faster.)

  • In addition, it is worth cleaning the system with NORMAL antivirus. Best of all, it copes with this task kaspersky antivirus , which you can download. Unlike the "multi-cleaner", the Kaspersky Lab software is paid, therefore, if you do not have the opportunity to install such protection, you can skip this step ...

Method 3.

Change of device software, or, as it is also called "Per firmware ".This method, as a rule, requires certain skills and is solved by contacting the Service Center. For the independent implementation of this task, you need to contact the manufacturer's website for your device, download the utilities and the firmware itself necessary for the firmware, and then reinstall it on your gadget.

If none of the methods brought results, unfortunately, you will have to contact the Service Center for repair of your tablet a or smartphone a.

Problems with WI-FI on the smartphone or android tablet./ The phone or tablet does not detect, turns off, does not catch wi-fi.

Sooner or later, every user is faced with the fact that for some reason wi-fi does not work on the phone. This article is intended to help you identify the sources of these common problems and find the fastest and most effective way to fix them.

So let's figure it out!

Wireless communication malfunctions are usually caused by several reasons:

  • Incorrect Wi-Fi settings.
  • Errors in the operation of the router itself.
  • Invalid parameters of the mobile device.
  • The action of malware or antivirus software.

Below we will take a closer look at each point and formulate troubleshooting recommendations. All of the following applies to both Wi-Fi on android phone, iOs, and other operating systems.

Eliminating the problem

You can only cope with the problem if you accurately determine its cause. For this, you do not always need to contact specialists. Many errors that relate to, for example, wireless settings, you can identify yourself. If the Internet slows down, works slowly, this may also be due to third-party factors: for example, network congestion when many gadgets are connected to it. Sometimes slow Wi-Fi is a reason to check the computer itself or the communication line of your Internet provider.

Incorrect Wi-Fi setup

First of all, attention should be paid to how the Wi-Fi access point is configured. To do this, you need to access the router's menu through a browser: but you need to enter a number of characters in the address bar, the combination of which is individual for each device. Usually this data is located on the back of the router, look for the Login and Password lines, they will be required in the next step.

Enter your username and password. If you managed to get access to the menu, first of all you should pay attention to the wireless mode parameters. A few simple options are relevant here:

  • Channel - Auto, but you can try to put another channel.
  • Mode - 11 bg Mixed, but changing the parameter to 11 bg only can give a positive result.
  • Channel Width - auto.
  • The baud rate, if any, is set to the maximum value.
  • Region has little effect, but could theoretically be the source of a malfunction.

If everything is configured correctly, but the Internet still does not function correctly, you should contact the service center or look for the problem elsewhere, for example, by contacting your provider. The device may be technically defective, therefore it is recommended to check it immediately after purchase.

Router settings

You should check if it is possible to go online at all. If it is not there both from a personal computer and from another device, it is advisable to check whether the router itself is turned on, whether it is working correctly. This is indicated by indicators.

The power indicator should be green. Next to it is a system indicator that should be blinking. The next indicator - WLAN - shows if the wireless connection on the router itself or in its menu. Next are the numbered LAN ports, one of which must be connected to a cable. Ideally, it should blink too. They are usually followed by WAN, the indication of which indicates that the router is connected to the Internet.

In some cases, reconnecting helps.

Incorrect time or date

Wi-fi on mobile device may function poorly due to such a trifle as the wrong date - this is one of the first on the list of common causes of Internet problems. You just need to go to the time settings section to set the correct values. It is important to take into account the time zone correctly.

Wi-Fi password error

Other possible reason - password. If the connection to the access point on the phone occurs automatically, this error occurs when the user changes the password. In other words, the password has been changed, but the gadget itself "does not know" about it and automatically enters the old one. The solution, again, is simple - to re-create the connection and enter the correct password.

Malware and antivirus programs

Viruses that the smartphone "caught" in the network can also interfere with the correct operation of Wi-Fi. If you suspect an infection, it is advisable to install an antivirus program on your phone and conduct a scan. There are many such programs, but they are usually used by well-established brands such as Kaspersky and ESET Nod.

The other side of the coin: Antivirus and other security software such as firewalls can themselves be the source of problems. Antivirus creates a kind of "shield" for filtering traffic, which sometimes affects communication. If after removing the antivirus software, the connection works correctly, in this case you will have to try another software or refuse it.

Software crashes

Many users experience wireless communication problems due to software malfunction. For example, when the user installs an alternative firmware or any other intervention in the factory characteristics of the software is performed.

Problems with the android system are also evidenced by other errors in the operation of the gadget - constant, systematic freezes, arbitrary shutdown, and others.

In this situation, you can make a Hard Rest - it will return the system to the factory settings.

If the matter is in the phone's firmware, this will help to solve it. But you need to know that "non-native" firmware, thus, is not deleted.

When the source of the malfunction lies in the router, often you just need to reboot the router. This is not always easy, since some models are not equipped with an on / off button.

If the device itself does not have a reboot function, you can simply unplug the cable for 10-30 seconds.

It can also be done via the machine's menu. The procedure for entering there is described above. This method is relevant if it is difficult or impossible to get to the router itself. Reboot option in different models routers are located in different parts of the menu, but, as a rule, on the system settings tab.

If an error in the work of Wi-Fi is due to failures in software, you can try to restart the device. In addition to the standard "Restart", there are several more radical and thorough methods:

  • Via the menu: "restore and reset".
  • By entering the number * 2767 * 3855 #.
  • Through the Recovery Mod - you can call it by holding down simultaneously "Home", "Power on" and decreasing the volume. Next, you should select the "Wipe data" section.

Other problems

If these recommendations did not help to restore the normal functioning of the wireless connection, it may be a technical malfunction of the Wi-Fi module itself. In this case, only a qualified specialist can help.

Conclusion

Issues with the functioning of Wi-Fi, as a rule, are solved easily and without the involvement of specialists. But it is worth remembering that independent technical intervention can damage the car until the functionality is completely lost. If connection difficulties are not resolved using available methods, it is better to contact the service center.

Video

Hello! As I said, I work with sis. as an administrator in an Internet cafe, and of course I deal with computer technology and local area networks.

So, recently my Aunt called me and asked to come and set up the D-link wi fi router, which she just bought in the store. I come, I set it up, everything is in order Aunt is happy Surfing the Internet on a netbook by Wi-Fi

But it was not there! The next day it calls and says the phone does not see wi fi and the laptop does not see wi fi! It only finds some kind of neighboring access points and that's it, well, I come, I think let me check the router at home, I take it and take it home, I connect everything okay everything works! I'm in shock \u003d) I come back to Aunt and connect it again does not work ... So I went to see a friend, he also worked ... Then I started rummaging in the settings of the router, but I could not find anything.

Then my Uncle comes into the room and says that the security company can block their equipment from below? I think for sure! the problem is in him, you won't see Aunt wifa And I'm leaving ...

But a few days later I got a call from another 1 person with an anthological problem! And for a long time I found a solution to this problem! In this article, I will now explain everything step by step how to solve such a problem!

Nowadays, a Wi-fi router has appeared in almost every apartment, and when you turn on the router in a neighboring apartment, you may lose Wi-fi Internet (everything will work fine through the cable in the computer).

Solution to the problem

I'll show you the example of a wi fi router router D-link DIR 300

The problem was that when configuring the router Wireles channel (Channel) is automatically selected by default (auto), shown in the screenshot:

We need to go to the router (web interface), if you did not change the local IP address when setting up the router, then you have it by default 192.168.0.1 , we write this IP in the browser and go to the Web interface of the router.

We go to the item as in the screenshot and change the channel, set a number different from the one set automatically (I always hit the first time and everything started working).

Now the wi fi network finds any of your devices!

Here is such a simple solution to this problem.
If you have questions, maybe you have a different router firmware and you cannot find this setting, write in the comments, I will help you.

Today, portable devices are gaining more and more popularity over personal computers, for a number of reasons. Modern laptops, tablets and phones are not just compact in size. They keep in touch with the Internet via Wi-Fi, which is important, because Wi-Fi networks are widespread today. It is available in cafes, restaurants, libraries, train stations and even on public transport. All this thanks to the Wi-Fi module available in portable devices. However, sometimes this wireless connection does not work quite correctly.

A bit about Wi-Fi coverage

Wi-Fi is wireless and based on IEEE-802.11. Today, the speed of data transmission through this network can reach 600 Mb / s. Wi-Fi coverage has a number of positive aspects, namely:

  • You don't need a cable to connect to your phone, laptop or tablet. Thus, the amount of cash costs is reduced.
  • The owner of a phone, tablet or any other portable device is not restricted to a specific location. The use of the Internet can be anywhere the user wants.
  • Wi-Fi coverage can be easily used by owners of phones, tablets and smartphones.
  • Despite the fact that there is only one Wi-Fi network in the room, many users who have a phone or tablet can simultaneously connect to it.

Reasons for Wi-Fi connection failures

There is no need to mention such a reason as too much remoteness of the portable device from the connection point, that is, the router. The main thing is to keep the required distance. However, if your laptop, phone or tablet is located a few meters from wireless router and there is no connection, then there are several reasons for this. So here are the reasons:

  • Older laptop models have a special small Wi-Fi connection on / off button. Therefore, it is worth checking that the connection is simply turned on. In newer models, you can use a keyboard shortcut such as Fn and F2 to enable Wi-Fi access. The documentation of the device will provide additional help.

  • The next reason is damage to the drivers that ensure the high-quality operation of the Wi-Fi module. The problem is easily solved by reinstalling the drivers, which can be downloaded using the manufacturer's official website. Other sites may offer substandard products.
  • Sometimes the adapter module doesn't work at all. This is due to the lack of a special utility that allows you to manage your wireless network. The utility can be found on the manufacturer's website or installed from the disk supplied with the laptop.
  • Sometimes the Wi-Fi connection is completely unavailable. This refers to cases when all devices recognize the network, but one of the devices does not. In this situation, you must first turn off the router for 10-30 seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes the problem occurs due to an unexpected failure of the router settings. All that is needed is to re-configure it. In this situation, the provider's support service will provide the best quality assistance, because each provider has its own type of settings.
  • It also happens that the signal is almost imperceptible, characterized by a low level. At the same time, some devices recognize the Wi-Fi connection, but the connection is still not possible. This situation can occur if the router is located quite far from the laptop, phone or tablet.

  • Theoretically, the reason may be a breakdown of the Wi-Fi module in a laptop or some other device. Moreover, if the warranty is still valid, you can easily change the purchased product. If you have an old device, repairs can be very expensive. Therefore, many advise to purchase an external Wi-Fi adapter, which is quite affordable at a price.

So, it is important to remember that it is not enough just to purchase a router, connect the appropriate cable to it and connect to Wi-Fi networks... A setting is required, which is best left to the master.
