Instructions on how to properly apply a protective film to the screen of your device. Do I need a film on the tablet

Articles and Life Hacks

After buying a new mobile device, people, as a rule, immediately run home to immediately plunge into its unique magical world, although experts recommend staying in the store and buying a few important accessories for your new friend.

For example, a screen protector for tablets is an accessory that must be purchased first of all, because it will help protect expensive touch screen the gadget from scratches and dirt.

Types of protective films

There are quite a few types of films on the market. More expensive films are thicker and less distorting on the screen, while less expensive films can be slightly thinner, so they will need to be replaced more often.

Basically, screen protectors can be divided into two types:

  • Matte films. They are denser in texture, so scratches and fingerprints are hardly visible on them. Although the use of matte films can lead to a decrease in screen brightness, which significantly reduces the comfort of working on the tablet.
  • Glossy films. Scratches and fingerprints are more noticeable on these surfaces, although they do not affect the brightness of the display in any way.

Why do you need a protective film

It can perform the following functions:
  • First, it protects the touchscreen this device (which, by the way, is not so cheap) from possible scratches that may appear during use.
  • Secondly, if the screen is damaged or scratched, then the use of film helps to correct the situation. That is, a protective coating can literally transform an old display, which can be very useful before selling a device.
  • Films have the ability to block 99% of UV radiation from the screen, which is not known to have a very good effect on human vision.
  • When you press on the screen, covered with a film, your fingers sweat much less, which means that there are practically no fingerprints on it.
You can stick the film yourself, since on the Internet today you can find a lot of information on how to do this, but it is better to seek help from specialists who have extensive experience in this matter, this will help to avoid possible problems and material costs.

In this article I will tell you how to properly stick the protective film on the display of your tablet or smartphone. A protective film is just a necessary accessory that will protect the screen of your device from dust, scratches, mechanical damage, etc. The most interesting thing is that after a few months you can return the device to its ideal appearance by simply replacing the film. But many have absolutely no idea how to glue it correctly and beautifully, here in this article we will sort it out in this matter.

How to properly stick the protective film:

1) First, prepare a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the display of your device. Wipes that are used for cleaning LCD monitors are ideal.

2) The ideal place to apply the film is in the bathroom, because it usually has the least amount of dust. Before gluing, wash your hands well with soap in running, warm water, wait until they dry themselves, do not wipe them off with a towel because there will be lint. It is also recommended to turn on a hot shower for a short time so that the humidity level in the bathroom rises, and all the dust settles.

3) We very carefully wipe the screen of the device with a napkin that we prepared earlier, making sure that there are no dust particles, fingerprints or other dirt on the display. For better cleaning, you can use LCD spray or some water. Never wipe the screen with household cleaners or products that contain alcohol!

4) Now we will open the package and take out the film from it. Any protective film should have a special shipping coating with stickers. Typically, the coverage is called Step 1 and Step 2... Step 1 should not be removed entirely. It is better to start gluing with a straight and wide part of the display Carefully remove Step 1 by about three centimeters and evenly apply the edge of the film to the edge of the screen. The following picture turns out: the protective film only slightly adhered to the screen, it can be pressed tightly, which makes it possible for us to see whether the gluing is going smoothly, and if not, if desired, re-glue it without difficulty.

5) After making sure that the film is glued evenly, smooth it over the surface of the screen, gradually removing Step 1. During the gluing process, air bubbles will appear on the surface, just take a credit card and run it several times over the film, the bubbles will go away (the smallest ones will remain, they will disappear on their own through for a while). If large bubbles do not go away, it means that debris or a lint has got under these bubbles, which can only be dealt with by peeling off the film, removing the dust and re-sticking and smoothing.

6) When the film is completely glued on, the bubbles are removed, you can remove the protective Step 2 layer from the front side and start using the device.

A few more tips:

Film good quality can be removed and washed under running water if dust has adhered to it from the back side, but do not do this often
- During operation, the film can be cleaned with any non-aggressive agent, but better simply with water.
- If you use it correctly, it will last at least 12 months.
- If, in the process of applying the film, a few dust particles nevertheless fell under it, do not remove and wash it! You are unlikely to be able to glue it better next time. And the dust particles will become less noticeable after a while.
- It is recommended to purchase the film immediately upon purchasing the device. Since the screen of the new device is protected by a technological film, removing which you will get a pristine screen.
- You will never wipe the screen perfectly - there are always lint and dust (or they will fly in while you glue). The best way to remove them is PAPER TAPE! or any tape that does not leave glue on the surface after peeling off.
- If there are dust particles left after sticking, bend the edge of the film and use the same paper tape to remove dust and lint. It is not necessary to completely peel off the film.
- Change the film once every six months or less often if you see that the film is in good condition.

The display is the most problematic and costly tablet part to repair. Sometimes it's easier to get a new device than trying to reanimate a damaged one. But the best thing is to immediately install a protective film or special glass over the screen.

Which one should you give preference to? Answers - below in the article.

Display protection: is it needed?

Film

It is a thin transparent material that is used to paste over the glass surface of a gadget (an example is). It can be of various types: for example, glossy, matte, mirror, universal.

All of the listed types of anti-shock films have common advantages:

  1. Budgetary price - at the same time, the device provides excellent protection against all kinds of scuffs, small household scratches.
  2. Micro-thickness - due to its thinness, the film fits perfectly on the glass surface and is almost invisible on it.
  3. No impact on image quality - such a protective layer will not change the brightness of the picture, will not distort the shades and will not affect the sensitivity of the sensor.

Films can also have additional features: for example, anti-spyware narrows the viewing angle, i.e. if you look at the display from the side, then no data can be read from it.

Everything is fine in these devices, except for one "but" - they will not protect the gadget's display from serious danger, for example, falling from a height. In addition, they are rather difficult to stick without the help of a specialist.

Glass

Provides protection of a more serious level, not only against scratches, but also protects the device screen when dropped (as an option :).

The products have a multi-layer structure, and the silicone base firmly connects the glass itself and the screen of the gadget. The upper layer of protection takes the brunt of the damage, preventing damage to the display.

Among the advantages of this device it is worth noting:

  • ease of installation - when gluing under it bubbles do not form, you can carry out the whole process at home;
  • reliability of protection - serious mechanical damage does not matter to the device, the touchscreen will not suffer from shocks, impacts, falls (from a small height and not on a hard surface), scratches from keys.

Additional advantages of glass are the presence of an anti-reflective and oleophobic layer. Thanks to these two components, fingerprints, grease stains or fogging are not scary on the screen.

There is only one drawback here: the cost, which is almost 2 times higher than the price of films.

So which is better to choose: a protective film or protective glass for a tablet?

For tablet screen

pros Minuses
Film protection from scratches; difficult to glue;
minimum thickness; wears out quickly
oleophobic coating;
low cost
Glass protection from scratches, falling from a small height; thickness up to 4 times greater than that of the film;
easy to glue; high price
oleophobic coating;
anti-reflective coating;
wear resistance

It all depends on the "extreme" use of the device. If the gadget is at home or is very carefully and rarely transported, the film is enough. Besides, its price is affordable for everyone.

Glass is a more expensive option, but for those who are used to traveling with a tablet, fit better Total. Under such protection, no shocks, shaking or scratches will harm the device's screen.

The first step is to carefully inspect the original packaging. There should be no dents or tears on it. This ensures that the device was not in transit, and also allows you to verify that the box was not, and it is a new device that has not been returned by a former user.

Check the package contents of your tablet. The kit must include a charger, often a USB cable is attached; Some tablet computers come with a memory card, OTG cable, headphones, a case (at the discretion of the manufacturer). Full list components can be found in the attached documentation.

It is advisable to check the work chargerso that after coming home there is no surprise. Examine the tablet body carefully for mechanical damage, scratches, chips, etc. Check if the glass is coming off the case. Gently squeezing the gum in various places, make sure there is no squeak.

Next, it is worth assessing the health of the screen. While the device is in the off state, take a closer look if there are any lights or light dots on the display. If there are defects, you have every right to demand replacement of the device.

After turning on

Now turn on the device and evaluate the health of the screen matrix. Defective items on dark screen will glow white or, conversely, on a light screen - dark. "Broken" pixels are a good reason to replace a gadget. Switch on yourself, without the help of the seller.

Be sure to check that the touchscreen has no non-sensitive areas. Launch applications with controls in different areas of the screen.

Turn on one of the preset melodies - if the speakers are working, the sound should be loud enough, without rustling and crackling.

If the store has a wireless wi-Fi network, it makes sense to check the operation of the radio module of your device.

Test your device's cameras by taking a few pictures. Make sure there are no blind spots on them. Such defects indicate a malfunction of the photosensitive matrix.

Usually the tablet is ready to use after you take it out of the box. That is, there is already some software... Note also the support for this device Google play - old android version OS often crashes when accessing the app store.
