Apple Watch Series 2

Case design and appearance

The package contents are similar to those of the first generation: an elongated white box with a logo, a case and additional elements are inside. In total, the package includes the watch itself, wireless induction charging with USB, a second strap and documentation with instructions for use.

The appearance of the Apple iWatch 2 is minimally different from its predecessor. Before us is a rectangular dial with gently rounded corners and two buttons on the side. On the back of the case there is a heart rate monitor, a button for detaching the bracelet, a speaker hole and a microphone. By the way, unlike Apple Watch 1 there are two microphone holes here, which greatly improves the quality of voice recording. Visually, this watch looks more impressive, as the case thickness is now 11.4 mm.

In aesthetic terms, the user of the gadget opens huge selection shades of straps and case. In addition to the standard silicone strap, designed more for sports, you can choose from nylon, leather or steel. Thus, Apple has developed bracelets for all occasions: for home, work, gym (Apple Watch Sport). For fans of the Nike brand, this watch has been released with branded straps with a logo and large holes (Apple Watch Nike + collection).

Another characteristic feature of the second version was the emergence of ceramic watches.Ceramic Apple Watch Series 2 look expensive and attractive, but they need to be handled with great care. In particular, protect from shocks and drops to prevent serious damage to the case, cracks and scratches. Also available to the user stainless steel watch

Ceramic Apple Watch Series 2

On a note! All second generation models back panel made of ceramic, whereas the previous version used a composite material.

Control

Two elements are responsible for managing the gadget: digital Crown and Side Button... True, now the wheel is intended only for scrolling and scrolling, the appearance of the application menu and switching to main screen... The side button brings up the Dock menu, which contains the widgets of all installed applications... The rest of the interface navigation occurs via touch display... You can scale the image, increase the font, turn the screens with one light touch and switch from one dial to another in the same way. The controls are simple, even an inexperienced user who has never interacted with Apple technology before will understand it.

Screen features

The size and resolution of the Apple Watch 2 display remained the same as in the first generation: 38 mm (272 × 340 dots) and 42 mm (312 × 390 dots). The screen is equipped with built-in AMOLED-matrix, as a result of which the picture will immediately impress the user with its brightness and saturation. All colors look natural and the text is readable without problems. Whichever angle of view is chosen, the image on the screen remains high quality. Subtle blue tints appear only when you look at the watch from a very sharp angle.

It's worth noting that the screen is twice as bright as Apple's previous watch. Brightness (1000 cd / m²) is automatically adjusted in conjunction with a light sensor. This option is customizable to the taste and preference of the user. When the external lighting conditions change, the screen brightness becomes higher, and decreases in the event that the light level changes (for example, from sunlight to artificial light).

Important! The screen is resistant to scratches and damage, there is a reliable shockproof protection. The role of protection for standard models is played by ionic glass Ion-X, while for models made of ceramic and stainless steel - sapphire.

There is also a pleasant backlight that can be left on overnight, turning the gadget into a compact table clock.

Main functions

In this version, the manufacturer took into account the shortcomings of previous generations, presenting another improved version. However, in terms of its functions, the Apple Watch Series 2 does not differ much from its predecessors.

Additional features

Separately, I would like to note the expanded opportunities for sports and taking care of your own health. The watch will easily calculate the number of lost calories, measure the pulse in a state of excitement and rest, and help restore breathing. You no longer need a smartphone to track physical activity, because the data smart watch quite capable of working autonomously.

Fitness functions

For fitness, there are two useful applications: the first contains breathing exercises, the second measures the heart rate. The user can track the dynamics of heart rate fluctuations and get daily statistics. Heart rate information will help you notice changes in health in time and consult a doctor without delay. The Health app is available for iPhone 5 and up to get data on wellness. The application stores all information from the heart rate sensor.

Another innovation: new training modes have been added to this version of the watch, for example, “ swimming in the pool "and" swimming in open water". About the suitability of the watch for use under water - in the next paragraph.

Water resistance

The news that the watches of the second series have become water-resistant, delighted the fans of the brand. The gadget has acquired a water-resistant case with an integrated speaker that repels moisture. If the predecessors had only protection against splashes, then this gadget can be safely immersed in water (fresh and sea) to a depth of 50 m. There is no need to worry about the operation of the mechanism. The new watch is suitable for swimming, surfing, and just taking a shower.

Advice! However, manufacturers warn watch owners against fanatical underwater use. Apple Watch Series 2 is not recommended for scuba diving or water skiing. The impact of water here will be colossal, which means there is no guarantee that the "filling" of the gadget will withstand such a test. And the bracelet can deteriorate from excessive moisture.

Performance and autonomy

The processor in Apple Watch Series 1 is S1P, in the second generation is S2. Both are dual-core. However, the Series 2 smartwatch has a more powerful processor, therefore, the user gets faster operation, better graphics and overall excellent processing power. Built-in memory here is 8GB, which is quite enough for applications and a small amount of music.

Apple has provided for Series 1 and Series 2 about 18 hours of active work from one battery charge. With a moderate intensity of work, according to the owners, the charge will last even for a couple of days. The battery is lithium-ion, not removable, the manufacturer, as usual, does not disclose information about the capacity. For duration autonomous work different parameters affect: the duration of phone calls, the number of notifications received during the day, GPS turned on, music or video playback, display brightness level, running training modes and other applications that eat up the built-in memory and the battery itself.

Pros and cons

A review of the Apple Watch Series 2 would be incomplete without examining the main advantages and disadvantages of the model. So, let's summarize before buying a product.

  • improved software and powerful processor on board;
  • comfortable dial;
  • built-in GPS navigator;
  • waterproofness;
  • extended features of the side button on the case;
  • thoughtful Dock menu;
  • the emergence of a ceramic watch model;
  • a large selection of straps for every taste.
  • a strong focus towards sports functions, which means that people who are not leading a very active lifestyle will not be interested in working with this gadget;
  • there is no cellular module, the watch functions only in conjunction with the iPhone;
  • case thickness.

Important! The price for smartwatches differs depending on the chosen variation. So, Apple Watch with a dial diameter of 38 mm costs from 23 850 rubles (with a silicone bracelet). For watches larger (42 mm), you will have to pay an average of 25,200 rubles.

Conclusion

With the advent of the second generation watch, the company has taken a big step forward in the world of sports gadgets. Apple Watch 2 is capable of measuring heart rate, counting steps and calories burned, as well as organizing water workouts, building tracks during runs, and saving all results. The watch can be safely recommended to sports and fitness lovers, to all young and active people who will appreciate the convenience, style and richness of functions in one small device.

Apple Watch Series 2

Apple has a reputation for delivering a new category of products that tell consumers what they want. The iPhone showed users and other manufacturers what incredible potential the smartphone market has, the iPad helped tablets transform from a curiosity in the form of a defective laptop or an overgrown smartphone into a useful, in-demand form factor.

After that, it is quite natural that Apple was expecting new discoveries, this time on the considered promising smartwatch market. Companies like Pebble started making best-selling watches; by the beginning of 2014, it seemed that they were on the verge of mass popularity, they were preparing for the release and everyone was waiting for a model from Apple.

It took a long time to wait, the release confirmation appeared only in the summer of 2014. Even then, it was only a hint - Apple announced the watch, but sales did not begin until the spring of 2015. When that day came, Apple immediately captured most of the market with attractive models in different materials, sizes and styles.

Despite positive sides , since their appearance, the question has been asked about what will happen next. The time difference between the announcement and release suggested that the developers were in a great hurry. It seemed that we could see a completely different watch when Apple had time to think it over, to see the reaction of customers, to experiment with design and assembly.

More than a year has passed, and this September, the next fruits of the developers' efforts appeared in the form of the Apple Watch Series 2. This watch is far from completely created from scratch - if it were an iPhone, the letter S would have been added to the previous digit in its name. However, there is hardware updates, new software features, and new iPhones paired with the watch. So are they the long-awaited new Apple Watch or the belated little-changing efforts? We will find out about this below.

Apple Watch Series 2 design

In the months leading up to the launch of the second generation of the Apple Watch, rumors were talking about what it would look like. Will Apple bring new hardware components like a camera to wearables? What about changing the design to curved display or adding new controls to the button and wheel?

After all these assumptions, we get the Apple Watch Series 2, which looks almost identical to the first generation. If you don't flip them over and check the label around the optical heart rate sensor, it won't be easy to tell them apart.

This may upset Apple fans who would like to see a more risky and innovative product, but it also speaks to the company's confidence that it is on the right track. Sometimes you need to make several attempts to find the right look (as was the case with galaxy watch Gear), but if it worked the first time, why change something?

All this does not mean that the new watch has become a copy of the first generation, but the update clearly belongs to the category of conservative ones. While there are a number of surprises inside, the outside looks familiar.

The most obvious indicator that we have a new watch is the models available only in Series 2. There's an Apple Watch Nike + variant with a perforated strap and a multicolor style. In the upper price bracket, there is the Apple Watch Edition, which has gone from gold to ceramic. There is an Apple Watch Hermes model with designer straps and buckles. For all of these models, the basic look has remained largely unchanged.

The changes are almost invisible. The dimensions of the screen remained the same, but the thickness of the case itself increased from 10.5 mm to 11.4 mm. Accordingly, the weight of the Watch 38 mm has grown from 25 g to 28.2 g, and for the 42 mm model from 30 g to 34.2 g. This applies to watches with aluminum cases and differs for steel and ceramics. Ceramic watches measuring 38 mm thicker than all - 11.8 mm.

The Apple Watch doesn't feel bulky or clumsy despite its growth. The curvature of the case makes the 38mm look slim and sleek. For wearable devices, the thinner they are, the better, but if you can make the device thicker without spoiling the experience, that's not bad either.

There is also a functional upgrade in the form of enhanced moisture protection. Now not only sweat and rain are not afraid, but also immersion in water to a depth of 50 m. Of course, many corrections are made to this statement - the time of immersion, the speed of the current, etc. However, it is still a big step forward in terms of watch longevity.

Screen

More than a smartphone screen, users expect from a watch screen. It should be easy to read in all lighting conditions, convenient for working at a hand's distance and transmit all information without depleting the battery in a few hours.

The first-generation Apple Watch OLED panel was already attractive enough, being artfully embedded in a black body, offering the vibrant colors and contrast that OLED is renowned for.

In the second generation watches, as well as with the design, Apple did not make any sharp steps with the display. The resolution remained 272 x 340 pixels for the 38 mm model and 312 x 390 for the 42 mm model. The cheapest aluminum variants use reinforced (Ion-X) glass to protect the screen, while the rest received synthetic sapphire crystals.

The screen has become noticeably brighter - twice, up to 1000 nits. This is a big update and helps to see the screen better in the sun. What is missing is the finer brightness settings. Now watchOS only offers three switches for the brightness level, there is not much difference between middle and high. This makes it difficult to use the new brightness heights, but there were no on-screen visibility issues.

Apple Watch Series 2 interface and functionality

The new Apple Watch came out on a new version of the watchOS operating system. If you are already familiar with a couple of generations of the platform, then you have to get used to a number of innovations, as in the plan appearanceand functionality.

Previously, you had to use Glance mode to see what was happening in your favorite apps or to switch between them. In watchOS 3, Glance is replaced by the Dock, accessible by pressing the watch's side button. This brings up a list of apps that are constantly displayed in the Dock and recently opened. This list can be edited to your liking.

There are also changes in the control center, such as the ability to use the Series 2 Watch speaker to manually pour out water that has entered it. The screens are not very responsive, in particular, swiping from left to right to scroll through the available wallpapers is not very smooth.

Much attention is paid to health and fitness. In addition to improvements to the Activity and Exercise sections, new controls have been added, and achievements can be shared with friends. There's a new Breathe app to motivate you to take breaks during the day. With reminders to get up and warm up, we see Apple's desire to keep its users in shape, but surely many will immediately turn off these notifications, which quickly get on their nerves.

Overall to latest version watchOS quickly gets used to it, and even if you get lost in the system (which is extremely unlikely on such a small device with only two buttons), it's not hard to find your way back to familiar places.

And yet there is still plenty of room for improvement. One of the most frustrating things when using apps on the Watch is the constant referral to the iPhone to complete certain tasks: accessing location data, setting photo album settings, etc., which should be available on the watch itself. This is partly due to Apple's security model and permissions, which doesn't make this constant running between watch and smartphone easier.

Even worse, at times there is a gap in communication between the Watch and the iPhone, when you have completed all the necessary actions on the smartphone, but the watch has not received messages and continues to wait for data to arrive. Taking into account limited quantity App response on Watch and the small number of interaction options can be frustrating.

Another inconsistency in the otherwise coherent watchOS system is the lack of standard text input options. In the Messages app, you can dictate into the microphone to translate speech into text, or you can manually type letter by letter. The latter option is needed if you want to keep the contents of the correspondence secret from others or not interfere with their doing their business. But when interacting with Siri or looking for directions in Maps, only voice is available, you cannot enter text manually. That's okay for Siri, but in other apps, the lack of text input is frustrating.

Processor and memory

Apple's Apple Watch Series 2 retains the familiar design, but uses a new processor inside. This is a system based on an Apple S2 chip, where the CPU performance has increased by 50%, and the graphics performance has doubled.

As a result, navigation through the system and applications is fast, although there are several problem areas. At times, 3D graphics freeze, and applications with a lot of graphics, such as Maps, show slow performance. This is partly due to the need to constantly receive data from external sources, but in any case, keep in mind that the work with the system will not always be smooth.

Of all Apple's updates, the S2 chip looks the most important for the future of the Watch platform, as evidenced by the release of the Watch Series 1 along with Series 2. Series 1 is a lot like the models from a year ago: the same screen with low brightness, no GPS, less water protection. But here instead of the S1 chip, S2 is used, bringing increased productivity... This shows that Apple takes the most demanding Watch apps seriously to ensure that they are as seamless as possible.

Communication

Like the first generation Apple Watch, newer models do not support cellular communicationcommunicating with the world via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is also an NFC communication standard for payment system Apple Pay.

At short and medium distances, nothing new has appeared, but at long-distance, but only one-way communication - GPS. This is a big plus for fitness and other hobbyists to track their location on a map without having to carry an iPhone with them.

Apple not only uses GPS to analyze location, but can, for example, calculate stride length. Unfortunately, there is no way to quickly turn GPS on and off to save battery power (aside from disabling positioning entirely), but the difference in battery life is small.

Camera

Not long ago, rumors claimed that Apple would follow Samsung's path with its first watch and try to include a camera in its watch. This did not happen, but the Apple Watch is still useful at times when taking pictures with the iPhone, working as a viewfinder of the smartphone camera.

You can watch the picture in real time, control the zoom, set focal points, just like on the iPhone itself. Video previews look sharp and run smoothly. The only negative is the limited benefit.

Multimedia

Watch YouTube videos don't watch much, but they still support multimedia capabilities... Audio controls let you work with files on your iPhone, or you can sync playlists to your Apple Watch. You can use a pair bluetooth headphone and enjoy offline audio listening. Unfortunately, this cannot be done through the watch speaker.

Just as photos can be taken remotely on the Watch camera app, images can be viewed on the watch screen. As with other apps, you need to get your iPhone out for this. It would seem that images on the watch screen can be zoomed in, but Apple has limited the ability to zoom in.

Call quality

It's not the main use case for the watch, but the Apple Watch Series 2 has a microphone and speaker, so why not make a call? As with the first generation watch, this can be done over the cellular network using a smartphone, or you can call another Apple user using FaceTime Audio. The sound quality depends on the surroundings, the speaker itself is quite loud and does not cause problems.

Autonomy

For the first time, Apple promised up to 18 hours of battery life in its watch. More than strong processor, brighter screen, GPS, and the same 18 hours are promised.

Apple does not give numbers, but analysis showed a 0.78 Wh battery in the 38 mm model of the first generation, and 1.03 Wh in the second, which is 32% more. This advantage goes to the increased power consumption of the processor and screen.

In real use tests, the clock was enough for the whole day, but if you need to work late, then in the middle of the day it is better to use wireless magnetic charging, although this is more a safety net than a real need. 6-7 hours of regular use at maximum brightness drops the charge below 50%, which does not confirm the promised 18 hours of operation.

In the worst case, at the end of the day, you will have to turn on the energy-saving Watch Power Reserve mode, disable access to applications and advanced functions, leaving only the time display. These are extreme measures that are unlikely to have to be resorted to often.

Among wearable devices from other manufacturers, there are also no models that could work without recharging for several days.

Conclusion

The Apple Watch Series 2 could be numbered Apple Watch 1.5 as there are no major changes here. The interface has become more perfect, but these are software improvements to watchOS 3.0, and not hardware, so the first generation of Apple Watch has the same innovations.

If you evaluate the hardware new Apple Watch, the new S2 processor, brighter screen, GPS and waterproof housing are worth noting. The S2 processor was the most useful innovation, although it could have been even more powerful. GPS and water resistance won't hurt either, especially for fitness. If you are looking for a high performance fitness tracker starting at $ 370, the Apple Watch Series 2 might be the device you need.

If you use an iPhone most of the time, or you have a first generation watch, you probably won't need to buy a new one. The alternative is the Apple Watch Series 1 - almost the same hardware-wise as the first generation watch, but with an S2 processor. The screen here is about half as bright, but the price is $ 100 less.

Ultimately, you need to choose according to what functionality the user needs. The desire for the most modern and most powerful device can be strong (especially when it comes to Apple products), but the Series 1 capabilities are enough for many.

If you are looking for improved water resistance and GPS, the new watch is an attractive purchase.

Pros of Apple Watch Series 2

  1. Productivity growth
  2. Comfortable even with larger sizes
  3. GPS and water resistance come in handy for active users
  4. The screen is brighter, although the brightness setting needs to be improved

Cons of Apple Watch Series 2

  1. Battery growth did not increase battery life
  2. Program interaction with iPhone is far from ideal
  3. Text input relies on voice control
  4. Minor
Read it.

When Apple launched the iWatch smartwatch in 2015, consumers had already tried out dozens of smartwatch models from manufacturers of all sizes. Nevertheless, the gadget was a natural success among the fans of wearable devices. In the fall of 2016, the second generation of this watch appeared. Their design differences from their predecessor are insignificant. The main improvements to Apple Watch 2 are located inside the device.

Completion of watches and their modifications

Apple Watch Series 2 watches come in an oblong box made of thick cardboard with a molded niche for the clock inside. The device comes with:

  • documentation;
  • round magnetic wireless charger with USB cable;
  • adapter.

Instead of the supplied adapter, it is permissible to use any smartphone charger.

The owners of the first generation watches were supplied with 2 straps of different sizes. The novelty only when choosing a sports silicone strap is available in 2 versions. When you buy a watch with a woven nylon strap, only one size is included. You can also choose a leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet.

The smartwatch remains compatible with the straps of the previous model. At the same time, the range of straps is expanding. New colors are available, such as asphalt gray for nylon and gray brown for silicone straps.

Apple watch series 2 versions:

  1. Standard execution. It does not differ in any additions in functionality and design.
  2. Special edition for runners, the result of a partnership with Nike. Called Nike +, this modification has a silicone strap with large holes designed to provide comfort during active sports. Another feature of the watch straps in this series is the two-tone surface in Nike branded colors.
  3. Hermes is a product created in collaboration with the Hermes fashion house. Differs in special metal or leather straps and dials. Detachable Hermes straps can be purchased separately.
  4. Edition is the premium version of smartwatches. The case is made of white polished ceramic, which is 4 times stronger than stainless steel.
  5. Sport modification. It is a simplified version of the first generation of watches.

Case and display

The overall dimensions of the novelty repeat the dimensions of the previous model. The difference is only in the thickness of the case. It has increased by 0.9 mm, which is not too striking. Similarly to Apple Watch 1, the second generation watch case is presented in 2 sizes - with a diagonal of 38 mm and 42 mm - and has a rectangular shape with rounded corners.

On the right side edge of the case there is a Digital Crown and an oblong button. A second microphone hole was added on the opposite edge. The speaker slot remained in the same place. On the back of the housing are the sensors surrounded by a zirconium-based ceramic ring.

Case material - stainless steel in silver and dark gray colors and lighter aluminum in silver and gold shades and in the variants "rose gold" and "space gray".

The screen of the smart watch is curved to the edges, made of mirror-smooth glass, resistant to scratches. Has excellent anti-reflective properties. The outer surface of the display has a grease-repellent coating. Thanks to it, fingerprints are less visible and easily removed.

The brightness control of the AMOLED display is carried out automatically by the light sensor. This, together with excellent anti-reflective properties, allows you to use the gadget both in the dark and in the bright sun at different viewing angles.

New features not found in Series 1

The new generation of smart watches has received a dual-core SIP Apple S2 chip. This processor is 50% more powerful than its predecessor, which means that heavier applications are now available on the device. amount random access memory is now a whole gigabyte. The gadget works on a new operating system watchOS3, which has improved the responsiveness of apps and the responsiveness of Siri.

An important innovation is the emergence of a GPS module with instant connection to satellites. With its introduction, the Apple Watch becomes a sports watch in the full sense that does not require wearing a smartphone while jogging or cycling. In this respect, smartwatches have gained a lot of independence from the iPhone.

New software provides enhanced opportunities for sports. The gadget has the applications Training, Breathing, Activity. The Workout app includes various programs for outdoor sports and in the gym. The Apple Watch Nike + modification has special application Nike, with which the device will become a personal trainer for the owner.

In addition, the smartwatch has become waterproof. In them you can swim and dive to a depth of 50 m. (The aforementioned Workout application offers programs for swimming in the pool and open water). However, deep diving and sports that involve moving in the water at high speed should be avoided.

Main functions and controls

Basic capabilities of a smart watch:

  • making calls (only with a smartphone);
  • ability to read email and messenger messages;
  • listening to music;
  • saving reminders, list of meetings;
  • internet connection;
  • communication via Bluetooth with an iPhone, pairing with it;
  • communicate with Siri assistant using voice commands (while Siri responds with text);
  • tracking and saving the results of sports training;
  • building and maintaining a track while walking, jogging and cycling; calculation of distance;
  • built-in pedometer and stopwatch;
  • heart rate measurement function;
  • control of daily activity;
  • calculating the loss of calories;
  • respiratory care function for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

To control the gadget, the Digital Crown scroll wheel is used, which works in the same way as a key and an oblong button next to it. The digital crown is used to scroll, bring up the application menu and exit to the home screen.

To activate the screen, just wave your hand.

The long side button is used to turn on the device and bring up the new Dock menu, from which it is convenient to exit to applications.

The display responds to pressure using Force Touch technology. Pressing harder on the center of the screen while running applications brings up additional menus or options.

Other interactions with the interface take place via the touchscreen display. By swiping the screen to the right or left, you can quickly switch between watch faces.

To use Apple Watch Series 2, you need an iPhone with iOS 10 and the Watch app, which contains all the watch settings, allows you to select and organize apps and widgets in the Dock menu.

Water resistance

Water resistance is an important innovation. The watch can be safely submerged up to a maximum of 50 m under water. However, with reservations: the device is not suitable for diving and water skiing, when water can fall on the body with high pressure and speed.

Increased moisture resistance has been achieved with new adhesives and seals. When you activate the Open Water Swimming or Pool Swimming workout modes, the display turns off and remains in this mode until you get out of the water, and the app continues to run.

In order to dry the speaker after swimming, an unusual system of pushing water out of its body using pulsations is implemented. The water elimination mechanism is activated by scrolling the Digital Crown.

Autonomy of work

The new smart watch is equipped with an extended battery. Apple specifies a battery life of 18 hours. This value is approximate and depends on the intensity of use. It is not the same for models with a 38 mm and 42 mm screen.

Using GPS increases battery consumption, as does being in the sun (which makes the screen brighter).

But if you consider that the Apple Watch 2 has a GPS module, a much faster processor and a twice as bright display, then the battery life at the level of the previous model is not a bad indicator.

conclusions

The second series of Apple Watch watches has an emphasis on fitness, but this does not mean that the watch is suitable only for athletes. Thanks to their extensive functionality, they allow the owner to monitor their health and assess their sports activity. Operatively work in tandem with an iPhone and without it.

In comparison with its predecessor, the gadget has received many improvements and thanks to them it is one of the best representatives of smartwatches on the market. Apple Watch Series 2 is not the most necessary, but fashionable and stylish accessory from a renowned manufacturer, made at the highest level.

At a press conference in San Francisco, in addition to the iPhone and wireless headphone AirPods, Apple has introduced a new smartwatch model that has not been updated for almost two years. The main thing in Apple Watch Series 2 is water resistance up to 50 meters, a 50% increase in performance, twice as bright screen and built-in GPS, which reduces the "iPhone addiction" of the gadget. Vesti.Hi-tech has figured out what is good about the novelty and what is bad about it.

Why buy

Apple Watch has gone through an evolutionary upgrade. The 2nd series of smartwatches is visually indistinguishable from the first, and all significant changes are made inside. Firstly, the "hand-held" gadget has acquired a water-resistant body that allows it to be immersed 50 meters, and not only in fresh but also sea water. Protection according to the ISO 22810: 2010 standard means that the new watch can be used for swimming, surfing or just taking a shower.

Responsible for moisture resistance is a new speaker design that pushes water out. However, diving deep in the Series 2 is not recommended.

“This means they can be used in shallow water, such as swimming in a pool or sea. However, you should not use Apple Watch Series 2 when scuba diving, water skiing, or other activities that involve high speed water or immersion to significant depths. Stainless steel bracelets and leather straps are not resistant to moisture, "- Apple warned.

Two new modes - "Swimming" and "Open Water Swimming" - were developed with the participation of professional athletes. The watch can calculate the pace of movements, track laps and calories burned, improving your swim performance. Recall that the first model (now called Series 1) is only splash and drip resistant.

Apple Watch Series 2 features a new, twice brighter screen (1000 cd / m2) for improved visibility and text readability in direct sunlight, while the S2 dual-core processor boosts processing power by 50%. In addition, the i-watch has a new, twice as powerful graphics chip.

Also integrated into the new product is a GPS module, which allows the i-device to more accurately record information about the route traveled and not take an iPhone with you for a run. Besides GPS, new model determines location based on Wi-Fi and satellite data stored locally. After your workout, you can see which path you have run or cycled (in the Activity app on your smartphone).

Apple has also developed new program ViewRanger, which, based on GPS, indicates directions to the destination and notifies if the user is off the route.

Why not buy

Almost all of the innovations in Apple Watch Series 2 are tied to fitness features. Water resistance up to 50 m makes the i-watch ideal for swimming, and the built-in GPS module for regular runs without an iPhone. So people who do not play sports or do not lead an active lifestyle, and use the Apple Watch somehow differently (notifications, calls, sleep control), it hardly makes sense to switch to a new model.

September 7 at apple presentations the world saw the second version of the Apple Watch Series 2. Yes, that's what they are called. Why couldn't you just name Apple Watch 2? The new version of Apple smartwatches received a number additional functions, sensors, began to work faster, but retained the previous design.

Apple Watch Series 2 specifications

Indeed, the most important thing everyone has been waiting for from Apple Watch 2 is new design, but Apple decided to leave the same and just improve the filling. And you can't find enough ideas for new designs for every year. And what's wrong with this one now? With true design, Apple Watch is unique and unlike any other similar device. This is the Apple thing. I think the design will not change to round. Perhaps over time, the watch will become thinner, but the shape will remain the same.

The most exciting thing the Apple Watch Series 2 has received is absolute water resistance. If the first version of the watch was waterproof against splashes, then Apple Watch Series 2 can be safely immersed in water up to 50 meters. This means that with them you can, without fear, take a shower or a bath, swim in the sea, swim in the pool. This is a plus. Watertightness was achieved by introducing a special mechanism in those places where water can enter, which pushes the water out without letting it in.

Another feature of the new Apple Watch Series 2 is calorie counting while swimming. After all of the above, swimmers can safely purchase an electronic wristwatch from Apple.

The coolest thing the Apple Watch Series 2 has received and what many have expected from them is improved performance. In the second version, the Apple Watch is one and a half times faster than the dual-core S2 processor, thanks to which the watch runs faster and does not lag. In some games, the frame rate has increased to 60, which makes playing more enjoyable. By the way, on Apple Watch, the game Pokemon Go was downloaded 500 million times, and the trainers walked over 4.6 billion km - Apple shared the facts at the presentation.

And another interesting change - in Apple Watch Series 2, the screen has become twice as bright and contrasting, which indicates a more pleasant use of the watch. A beautiful image is a guarantee of pleasure and comfort obtained from using the gadget. Apple says this is the brightest display it has ever delivered.

The Apple Watch Series 2 also has a built-in GPS module - finally !! You no longer need to connect with an iPhone for this, the watch itself can track routes.

Apple Watch Series 2 models

Apple Watch Series 2 will be available in three variations:

  • Aluminum - Sport (colors: black, silver, gold, rose gold)
  • Steel - Steel
  • Ceramics - Edition

As you have already noticed, there is no gold. Apple will no longer release gold Apple Watch. And I even took them out of production, so those who did not manage to buy a gold Apple Watch for 10'000 bucks are late :) The most expensive and part-time major Apple Watch Series 2 will be ceramic. They look really gorgeous.

Apple Watch Series 2 Nike Edition

Nike has released its own custom-made hole strap for true athletes. This version of the watch with a strap from Nike is expected in October. Nothing new, just a stylish strap. But it doesn't look bad.
