But we did not set our task to describe all the possibilities of the programs under consideration, but were limited to only the functions of interest in the context of this article, that is, a quick comparison of documents. In conclusion, I would like to note that, in our opinion, to compare Word documents are still more convenient to the editor's resources, because in utilities that ensure comparison of such files, the latter are previously converted into a text format with all the consequences of this. That is, absolutely the same words found in compared documents on adjacent lines are identified as various, which complicates work with documents. In relation to all other considered formats, without specialized programs for a quick comparison of documents can not do. If work has to deal with different formats, you need to focus on programs such as Compare Suite, Compare IT!, Beyond Compare or Winmerge (see Table 1). Version control, work with projects, backup, merger and visual comparison of files is a far from a complete list of tasks, one way or another associated with synchronization.

The guide entered 10 programs that can be called largely universal: they are not tied to a specific service or application, allow you to perform the above-mentioned (and less specialized) tasks not only through the graphical interface, but also in the command line mode.

Winmerge.

WinMerge is a program for comparing and combining files and directories in Windows. It can be used as a separate tool or in conjunction with projects. Winmerge has a built-in text editor with support for programming languages, backlight and row numbering.

There are two modes of working with data combined into the file selection dialog and folders. When compared, filters of two types are available: File filters and string. This allows you to use various superstructures and operate with regular expressions by selecting the necessary data types when compared.

In the file comparison mode, both files are displayed in the window, in the left and right side. For convenient navigation on the contents there is a map ("location"). P4Merge is infrequently mentioned among other free products (for example, compared to WinMerge). In addition, it is not easy to find this program among other components of the Perforce complex. Perforce is a commercial cross-platform version control system with a wide range of applications, not least due to plug-ins and integration with various products (Intellij idea, Autodesk 3D Studio Max, Maya, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Eclipse, Emacs, etc.) .
