Why does a jpeg file (photo) not open in Photoshop? Gives an error message. Unable to execute the request there are problems interpreting jpeg data Photoshop does not open jpg

After upgrading to Windows 10, I ran into a problem - they stopped dragging files into Photoshop! You have to open the file through the menu, which is very inconvenient and time consuming.

The search for a solution led to the results that I want to share with you. Take it, it will come in handy.

First, simple solution:

If files are not being dragged into Photoshop, you need to check the access rights. To do this, click on the program shortcut with the right mouse button and go to the "Properties" tab where we put a tick "Run this program on behalf of the Administrator".

I must say right away that this method did not help me, in this case there is a second solution:

1. Go to Start and in the search bar at the bottom insert the command: regedit
2. Next, go by pot: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\u003e SOFTWARE\u003e Microsoft\u003e Windows\u003e CurrentVersion\u003e Policies\u003e System
3. Find the section EnableLUA. Open it with a double click and change the variable from 1 to 0. Save. The computer will ask for a restart. Agree or reboot manually. Rejoicing - the files are now being dragged and dropped into Photoshop.

Verified personally for:
1. Windows 10 Photoshop CS6 x64
2. Windows 8 Photoshop CS6 x64
3. Windows 7 Photoshop CS6 x64

UPDATED 01/27/2019

Thanks to our user Artem, another solution was found:

In Win10 Eng, only one method specifically helps - go to the Propirties of the shortcut to the Compatibility tab, go down, go to Change settings for all users, uncheck the Run this program as an administrator, click Apply - and that's it, the files are dragged and dropped. And all these your Enablé LUA is a hat, after changing to 0, photos, music, video, Skype and other Windows scales will not work. Do you need it?

Photoshop, being a versatile photo editor, allows us to directly process digital negatives obtained after shooting. The program has a module called "Camera RAW", which is able to process such files without the need to convert them.

Today we'll talk about the causes and solutions to one very common problem with digital negatives.

Often, when trying to open a RAW file, Photoshop does not want to accept it, displaying something like this (there may be different messages in different versions):

This causes known discomfort and irritation.

Causes of the problem

The situation in which this problem occurs is standard: after buying a new camera and having a great first photo shoot, you try to edit the resulting images, but Photoshop responds with the window shown above.

There is only one reason: the files that your camera produces when shooting are incompatible with the version of the Camera RAW module installed in Photoshop. In addition, the version of the program itself may be incompatible with the version of the module that is able to process these files. For example, some NEF files are only supported in Camera RAW contained in PS CS6 or earlier.

Solutions to the problem

  1. The most obvious solution is to install a newer version of Photoshop. If this option does not suit you, then move on to the next item.
  2. Update an existing module. You can do this on the official Adobe website by downloading the installation distribution kit corresponding to your PS edition.

    Please note that this page contains packages for versions CS6 and earlier only.

  3. If you have Photoshop CS5 or older, the update may not bring results. In this case, the only solution is to use the Adobe Digital Negative Converter. This program is free and performs one function: it converts images to DNG format, which is supported by older versions of the Camera RAW module.

    This method is universal and is suitable in all cases described above, the main thing is to carefully read the instructions on the download page (it is in Russian).

On this, the options for solving the problem with opening RAW files in Photoshop are exhausted. Usually this is enough, otherwise, it may be a more serious problem in the program itself.

Surely, many of us, working in the Adobe PhotoShop program, faced the impossibility of fulfilling a request due to problems with the interpretation of jpeg data. This occurs when processing photographs. You are trying to open an image downloaded from the Internet or taken from your hard drive in Photoshop, and you see a pop-up message about this error in front of your eyes. This article will talk about why it is impossible to complete the request, which causes problems with the interpretation of jpeg data, and what needs to be done to get rid of this error.

Unable to complete the request having problems interpreting the jpeg data

Why is there an error in Photoshop?

Among the possible reasons for an error when executing a request due to problems with the interpretation of jpeg data are:

  • image damage as a result of a virus attack, which only Photoshop sees, having a more advanced method of checking files for integrity;
  • an error in the Adobe PhotoShop module, which loads photos in jpeg format into memory - it may incorrectly read the data or not take into account any nuances;
  • the resolution of the jpeg file is too high.

Not knowing the real reason for the error with the message about the refusal to execute the request, you must take the steps described below to eliminate the problems with the interpretation of jpeg data. At some stage, the error must be corrected. As a result, the required file will open correctly and you can continue working with it.

Ways to resolve an error when executing a request due to problems with the interpretation of jpeg data

If the file is damaged as a result of a virus attack, then scanning the system with the installed antivirus program will help, which will find and neutralize the malicious code. It is advisable to put the antivirus itself in the regular scan mode, but if any errors crash, you must also enable an emergency scan.

Most often, it is impossible to complete the request due to problems with jpeg when processing photos in the specified format in Adobe PhotoShop.

What to do in case of picture playback problem

If you load an image into the editor and you cannot work with it further, then you need to do the following:

  • open a photo in a simpler editor with minimal requirements for image quality (for example, in system Paint);
  • resave the photo in a different format - for this you need to click on the word “File” in the upper left corner of the editor, hover over “Save As” and select the extensions png, jpeg, bmp, gif or others;

Choosing a format in Paint
  • you can not hover the cursor, but click on "Save As", then the save menu will come out, where the file type is selected in the drop-down list;

Selecting a format in the drop-down list in Paint
  • then again you need to go into photoshop and open the saved image.

If the problem of interpreting jpeg data arises at this stage, then using this method it will be solved.

Image compression method

You can also try compressing the image while maintaining its quality. This is done using online services such as Web Resizer, Image Optimizer, PunyPNG and other handy tools and programs - Paint and Adobe PhotoShop.

Consider an example using standard Paint:

  1. open the image in the editor;
  2. click "Resize";
  3. by default, the "Percentage" and "Constrain Proportions" fields will be highlighted;
  4. in the "Percentage" field, enter the required number (in our case 70%).
  5. click OK - the photo is ready in the required size.

How to resize an image in Paint

Alternatively, try reinstalling Adobe PhotoShop or updating to the latest version. Perhaps an outdated version of the program does not cope with the functions and causes an error when executing a request due to problems with the interpretation of jpeg data.

    There are special programs just for "broken" photos. They restore the picture according to a certain algorithm.
    But from experience I can say that it turns out to restore 10-15 percent, no more.

    well, then it's easier to go to the bank and register there calmly and without any mistakes

    Just erase the E in the jpeg file extension. And you will be happy.

    but is there a difference? only in spelling is, but the format is the same

    I present to you a free program for converting RAW to JPG, as well as for viewing detailed data on images (EXIF) - ShowExif v0.06-16beta.

    They are actually the same format.
    Its full name is Joint Photographic Experts Group, short for JPEG.
    But in old operating systems, file extensions could not be more than 3 letters. Therefore, the file extension of this format was shortened to 3 letters JPG.
    Other operating systems do not have this limitation, so the extension was not shortened.
    So there are two parallel extension standards for the same file format.

    Google

    If you only think about changing the format, then Paint is the simplest solution.

    Or write .JPG instead of .jpeg

    No different. JPG is a shorthand for JPEG. Expert group on photography :)

    How to make JPG from JPEG? Win + R write a word cmd , press ok. Write dir folder where photos... Write ren * .jpeg * .jpg... All pictures will become YPG.
