Dimensions Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Samsung Galaxy Note5 - Specifications

Note 5, a review of which will be the topic of our today's article, appeared at a time when a South Korean developer created the so-called castling plan. What was this concept? In fact, Samsung has decided to shift the focus within its devices, presenting in a favorable light a model called EDGE +. How is this related to Samsung Note 5, a review of which is presented to the reader? We will talk about this today, and also figure out what the device can offer to potential buyers.

Samsung Note 5, the review of which spread on the Web shortly after the release of the smartphone to the international mobile arena, became a niche product due to the application of the castling policy, which was described a little earlier. Therefore, this unit is available for purchase in a limited number of markets. From the very beginning, sales of the device began in the homeland of the smartphone. This is, of course, about South Korea. From there, having covered hundreds of kilometers, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Dual SIM, a review of which will be of interest to all potential buyers, goes to the United States of America. On the territory of the Russian Federation, official sales will begin only

The reasons

So, why did the fate of the apparatus develop in this way? The popularity of the EDGE + model has had a significant impact. According to some sales data, the demand for the device exceeded that of Galaxy C6. As a result, it turned out that the deficit was very, very high. This, in turn, led the company to urgently increase the pace of production of components such as curved screens. Among the advantages of the device was quite an interesting appearance, obtained during the application of the original solution, and this only mobilized sales. As you know, the market of smartphones running the Android operating system is nothing but a collection of devices of the same type (in terms of design), in which the original appearance is an exception to the rule. Under such conditions, couldn't the device, equipped with an individual design, not please the audience?

Actually, that's why it was decided to create the Note 5 Duos, which has been reviewed by more than one expert in the field of smartphones. Initially, the company's engineers proposed an idea in which they mentioned the possibility of equipping the EDGE + model with a stylus. However, later, having analyzed and worked through this issue in more detail, experts came to the conclusion that such a decision should be abandoned. The problem was that the curved screen interfered with the comfortable use of the stylus. Probably, many remember the turmoil that arose due to the decision of the South Korean manufacturer to promote two models of smartphones at the same time. Now we are talking about the devices "C6" and "C6 Edge". The company took into account the sad experience of confusion, and that is why, once again, it gave up trying to sit on two chairs. Which, probably, had a positive effect on the quality of sales.

Benefits of the Note product range

What do users like about this line of phablets? The basis of popularity is laid by innovative (and so far the best) technological solutions. This applies mainly to the hardware stuffing. The account includes the modules of cameras, memory, processor. And engineers work on software, trying to bring it to mind and optimize it as much as possible. Thus, we can say that the Note line (or rather, the devices included in this product line) are equipped with the latest prototypes of operating systems (at least at the time the device entered the international mobile arena).

The company's approach to this issue is also interesting. Of course, the competitors of the South Korean manufacturer can offer similar devices to potential buyers. However, there is one very important point: such devices appear on sale two or three years later, starting from the moment the Samsung device entered the international arena. An example is the Nexus 6. Screens with a matrix made using AMOLED technology have a gap with the market of about three years. Along with reduced energy efficiency, not very good brightness and illumination, as well as some other technical limitations, these parameters automatically make a smartphone unprofitable in terms of purchase.

Of course, we can break down the characteristics of smartphones into exceptional, individual parameters and compare them with other devices. But that's not practical, right? Therefore, we can come to one simple conclusion that the aggregate characteristics of the devices defined in the Nout model range are unambiguously superior to their competitors. Without giving the latter absolutely no chance. And the point here, probably, is precisely in the components. If a South Korean manufacturer has the corresponding elements in its arsenal, then other companies simply do not have them. Well, it's time for us to move from words to deeds, and we'll start, perhaps, with the parameters of the device.

Galaxy Note 5: overview

The characteristics of the device are as follows. The operating system on board the smartphone is the latest version of "Android" at the time of the release of the device - 5.1.1. At the same time, a custom shell called TouchWiz is built in to use the phone. A few words separately should be said about her. During the optimization work, "TouchViz" was significantly facilitated so that the user would feel more comfortable and not get confused in the navigation fields of the software.

Screen

This time, the South Korean manufacturer has got a fairly large device. That there is only one screen, the diagonal of which is 5.7 inches. A kind of "shovel", as I would like to say. But nevertheless, it is not possible to offend the model unequivocally in this way, since engineers and designers have taken good care of other relevant indicators. As for the rest, we note that the picture is displayed on the display in Quad HD quality. This means that the resolution will be 1440 by 2560 pixels. Their density is 518 pieces per inch. The screen matrix is \u200b\u200bmade using SuperAMOLED technology. The brightness level is simply excellent, the smartphone takes one of the first places in its segment in terms of color rendering quality, if not the first.

Chipset

A processor of the Exynos family is built into the device as a hardware filling. To be more specific, it is nothing but the 7420 model. Yes, it is almost impossible to understand anything solely by the name of the product, therefore, we will provide detailed data on the chipset. It contains four cores of the A57 type, as well as four - of the A53 type. Their clock frequency, respectively, is 2.1 and 1.5 GHz.

Memory

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Duos, the technical review of which should be reviewed before buying, has 4 gigabytes built in random access memory... To store personal data, a smartphone user is allocated a different volume (depending on the specification of the purchased model). It can be 32, 64 and 128 GB. It is logical that the more built-in memory in the device, the more expensive it will cost a potential buyer. At the same time, we note that there is no support for external microSD drives. This means that those who like to store huge files on their device will have to fork out for a version with 64 or 128 GB of long-term memory. Perhaps the lack of support for flash cards can be called one of the main shortcomings of the hero of our today's review.

Connections

The set of communications Samsung Galaxy Note 5 EDGE, the review of which we will conclude by considering the main advantages and disadvantages of the phone, is quite good. It has bluetooth version 4.2, Wi-Fi operating in the a, b, g, n, ac ranges, and the device also has an LTE module built into it. It makes it possible to work with fourth generation cellular networks. In fact, this means that the user will be able to use the Internet much more comfortably, loading pages, pictures, music and films faster.

For synchronization with a personal computer or laptop, a MicroUSB 2.0 connector is provided. It is also useful for recharging the phone from an electrical network or an external power source. An external battery for a certain number of amperes can act as the latter. A good solution would be to buy, for example, for 10,000, if you spend the whole day where there is no possibility of charging from the mains. Such a battery will allow you to raise the charge from 0 to 100 percent more than two times.

Cameras

Front camera resolution is 5 megapixels. The main one is much more powerful. It produces really cool, high quality images. The resolution of the main camera module is 16 megapixels. An LED flash is provided for night shooting. Needless to say, the camera has an auto focus function? Probably not. Optical stabilization is present, and video is recorded in 4K resolution.

Autonomous work

The battery of the device is quite capacious - 3,000 milliamperes per hour. You can charge your phone wirelessly using one of two standards. Fast charge up to 90 percent in one hour. Up to 100 percent within 90 minutes. In mixed mode, the device will be able to work up to one day. Continuous playback of video clips or movies will completely discharge the phone in 13 hours.

Overall dimensions

The dimensions of the smartphone in all three planes are the ratio of 153.2 (in height) to 76.1 (in width) to 7.6 (in thickness) millimeters. Moreover, the weight of the device does not exceed 171 grams. As a reminder, the full Samsung Note 5 review has been released by the official manufacturer. Now it's time to move on to the results of the article.

Positive reviews

What conclusions can be drawn based on the feedback from users who purchased this model phone? Among the advantages (you can say, by default) were the quality and volume of the spoken and audio speaker. The interlocutor is perfectly audible, there is always a good volume reserve. At the same time, the sound is clear. The microphones are also pleasing: on the other end of the invisible wire you will be heard no worse. In general, a good job of the company's engineers, which will allow you to comfortably communicate with a person even in a fairly noisy environment.

A good connection quality can also be written down as a definite plus. Needless to say, if the connection is not lost, does not disappear, everything works stably. And this applies to both the Wi-Fi module and work in cellular networks. There are no complaints about LTE. In terms of communication, the work of the engineers on the software and the operating system helped in some way.

Negative reviews

Among the significant shortcomings, reviews highlight the lack of memory cards. You will either have to be content with the 32 gigabyte version, or overpay for a larger volume. Another solution to the problem is to use cloud storage. However, this is also not always convenient. For some people, the lack of support for external microSD storage can be crucial.

Now that there are a lot of big smartphones out there, the Galaxy Note line no longer seems so huge compared to others. But still it is still one of the few phablets whose size matches the number of functions. Let's take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 - Reviews

What sets the Samsung Galaxy Note apart from all others is the S Pen, and with each version it gets better and more comfortable.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus at the same time as the Note 5, and they are almost identical in every way, but the Edge Plus lacks the S Pen.

Curved glass on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 isn't stain resistant

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 looks as stunning as the Galaxy S6 - its metal body shines and the glass looks like a pearl in the light. A massive 5.7-inch phablet, more comfortable than any other in its line, thanks to the curved back panel on both sides, which helps to better grip it.

But only the edges are curved, not the entire panel, like the Moto X or LG G4. It also improves the grip of the phone to your hand, and it doesn't feel like it is about to slip out of your hand as it did with the previous Note.

Its buttons located along the metal frame are quite durable and comfortable. From the side of the Note 5, it's easy to confuse it with the more expensive iPhone or Galaxy S6, which is pretty nice.

The glass on the back feels fragile, and many noted that in the early days they feared damaging the Galaxy Note 5's casing, even by simply placing it on the table. But in fact, glass is stronger than it seems, and it will remain intact even if it falls.

A more real problem is fingerprints, which cover the Note 5 glass almost instantly, and you have to regularly spend time cleaning it. This is especially disappointing considering how stylish the smartphone looks.

New S Pen Features

The S Pen stylus is located in the cutout at the bottom of the metal frame of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. To remove it from the case, simply press the tip of the stylus. With its sleek design and metallic color, the stylus follows the overall style of a smartphone.

Interesting is the new S-Pen feature, on the Note 5 the stylus can be used even with the screen off, eliminating a few steps that previously had to be done in sequence before using it. Now you don't need to unlock your phone, take out the S Pen and wait for the application to open, you can just take out the stylus and write directly on the dark screen.

If you have a Note 5 - a notebook and in general any paper notes that are constantly lost or run out, you no longer need. Many creatives have commented that the S Pen and ArtFlow apps are enough to sketch out future paintings.

Another great new feature is the Scroll capture feature, although it's harder to activate. When you read an article on the Internet or come across something else that you want to watch later, offline, you can save it with this program. To use it, just select the Screen write function through Air Command and take a screenshot. After that, the Scroll capture option will appear. By pressing which, you can scroll the screen until you have selected the entire area that you want to keep.

Scroll capture essentially takes one big continuous screenshot. Therefore, if you plan to read long articles, forum posts or something else that is quite voluminous and there is no Internet access, this option will save you time.

Other exciting new features include markup capabilities for PDFs and Scrapbooks, where you can keep a list of tasks, sort them, set reminders at specific times, and so on.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has also improved the Air Command menu, which is now permanently on the screen, so you can quickly access its options. Something like a bubble with a pen will float along the home screen when you pull out the S Pen, and clicking on it will bring up the Air Command menu, which is very convenient for those using a stylus. You can move this bubble or just delete it.

Many users point out that the S Pen is one of their favorites across the entire Samsung Note line. This is an ingenious addition to the Galaxy Note 5 that transforms the phablet into more than just a phone - now it can be a draft, notebook, and canvas. It's a versatile tool that sets the Note 5 apart from the huge variety of smartphones.

Great specs on the Galaxy Note 5, but modest battery

  • The screen size is 5.7 inches.
  • Resolution - 2560 x 1400.
  • Thickness - 7.6mm.
  • OS - Android 5.1 Lollipop.
  • RAM - 4 GB.
  • The front camera is 5MP.
  • The rear camera is 16MP.
  • Battery - 3,000 mAh.

The Note 5's specs are impressive, ranging from a 5.7-inch Quad HD screen (2560 x 1440 pixels) to an 8-core Exynos processor. Samsung offers a choice of 32GB and 64GB versions, and that's enough for most, but some were frustrated by the lack of an option to expand storage via the microSD slot. Of the 32 gigabytes, only 24 are available, besides, if you like to download games and not only, in a year or two the place will be completely filled.

The 3,000mAh battery wirelessly charges pretty quickly in both standards, and is on par with the Galaxy S6. At the same time, the Note 5 heats up a little, and charging via the Micro-USB cable is faster, but charging the phablet wirelessly is much more convenient.

It is worth noting that when charging via a cable, the battery will fill up to 100% faster than most similar smartphones.

But the charge does not last long, and this is a significant drawback. It's unclear why Samsung put a smaller battery in the Galaxy Note 5 than the Note 4 and previous models, and this is especially offensive against the background of the rest of the specifications. The battery lasts for the whole day of intensive use, but not more.

The battery is not removable, which is not only unusual, but also clearly inconvenient. Over time, its endurance decreases, and after a year it will be clearly noticeable, and it will not be so easy to replace it with a new one. The release of Android 6.0.1 improves the situation a little, but what will happen in 2 years and beyond?

Samsung has added a fingerprint reader to the home button for added security and mobile payments (more on that later). Now unlocking your phone is much easier, just put your finger on one button. The scanner is almost as good as Apple's Touch ID.

Excellent Note 5 cameras

The 16MP camera on the back of the Note 5 takes photos better than even the Galaxy S6. It focuses quickly and works great in almost any light. Some users have noticed that the pictures come out even too saturated, especially in bright light, but this happens too rarely to consider this a serious drawback.

Photos taken in low light conditions look decent, and the quality is not inferior to those taken by other cameras of competitors.

The 5-megapixel camera on the front is no longer surprising on modern phones. Anyone who switches from iPhone to Note will undoubtedly notice the difference in selfie quality.

It is worth noting that the default mode is “lovely”, so you shouldn't be surprised that on the first selfie you may look like an angel. Of course, both conventional and many other types of photography are available.

Also, the smartphone can immediately, without applications, broadcast videos to YouTube.

Samsung Pay to Samsung Galaxy Note 5

One of the most intriguing features of the Galaxy Note 5 you will definitely not find on flagships from other manufacturers is Samsung Pay, mobile payment service.

The fact is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 reads the magnetic stripe of a credit or debit card using MST technology. So users can make payments from a smartphone in any terminal in the world that has a magnetic stripe.

The main advantage over Apple Pay here is that you can interact with any terminal, not just through NFC.

Samsung Pay is already available in the USA, South Korea, China, and European countries, and in Russia it is promised to be launched by the end of 2016.

Outcome

The S Pen is the main selling point of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and what sets it apart from other big smartphones like the LG G5 or iPhone 6S Plus. Markup enthusiasts, artists and many other users will appreciate this feature, and it proves that there is still a future for styluses.

Benefits

  • Stylish looks and build quality;
  • Great new S Pen features
  • Comfortable to hold in hand;
  • Great camera;
  • Fast charging.

disadvantages

  • Fingerprints remain on the rear glass;
  • No microSD card slot.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 does not have a removable battery or microSD card slot, but it can still be considered a powerful phablet that is otherwise much better than its predecessors.

Choosing between the Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus and Note5 won't be easy, however, especially if you aren't interested in the S Pen. The difference mainly lies in the differently curved edges and the price.

The Galaxy Note 5 is by far one of the best smartphones from Samsung, and the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 smartphone has a monolithic body made of glass and metal. However, at the same time, the 5.7-inch phablet with a stylus has lost not only the IrDA, but also a removable battery and a slot for memory cards. Vesti.Hi-tech has found out what else the novelty has lost and gained in return.

Having literally revolutionized the segment of smartphones with large screens, models from the Note line usually set the bar high in the entire "galactic" family. As a rule, they differ from similar devices with stylus from other manufacturers in the aggregate of their advanced characteristics, which competitors often simply cannot repeat. However, now the place of the mass technological flagship has taken (follow the link, read our detailed review) with a curved screen so attractive to buyers. At the same time, the new device - Galaxy Note 5 - with almost the same filling, but with a flat display and, of course, an exclusive stylus in addition, seems to have prepared the role of one of the premium niche products.

Design, ergonomics

Unlike the previous model (), the materials of the monolithic case of the Galaxy Note 5 have abandoned plastic, at the same time getting rid of the removable back cover with the stylized "leather" style. Now the alignment goes to the glass-metal flagships of the sixth generation S-series (especially). Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protective glass is used on both sides of the curly metal frame that runs along the perimeter of the device. By the way, the fashion for bends, which was set by the Edge devices, could not be avoided in this case either. True, not guessing the aspirations of buyers, they decided to bend not the screen in the Galaxy Note 5, but the back panel, the glass of which smoothly "flows" to the side edges of the aluminum alloy. With the same screen diagonal (5.7 inches), the body of the novelty was made a little more compact (153.2x76.1 mm versus 153.5x78.6 mm), thinner (7.6 mm versus 8.5 mm) and lighter (171 g versus 176 g) than u. Note that the recently announced iPhone 6s Plus with a less spacious 5.5-inch screen surpasses the Galaxy Note 5 not only in terms of dimensions (158.2x77.9 mm versus 153.2x76.1mm), but also in weight (192 g versus 171 g ).

Galaxy Note 5 models are available in four colors: Sapphire Black, White Pearl, Silver and Gold Platinum. For the test, we got a black (or rather, dark blue) device. As you know, glass is a very easily soiled material, and against a dark background, all fingerprinting collected by the back panel is even more clearly visible. So, if you don't want to regularly wipe your smartphone with a rag, and the requirements for its appearance are similar to that of a foreman for a recruit, you should pay attention to other colors. It should be borne in mind that the Galaxy Note 5, traditionally for this line, did not bother with dust and moisture protection of the device.

In the upper part of the front panel, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, there is a cutout for the "earpiece" grill, around which the front camera lens (on the right) and a charge / event LED, as well as proximity and light sensors (on the left) are located. A fingerprint scanner was added to the oval mechanical Home / Home screen button under the display, as in the case. The dedicated touch buttons "Recent Apps" (left) and "Back" (right) are practically invisible without the backlight, which has a limited operating time.

A small and rather thin metal power / lock key can still be found on the right edge of the device.

Instead of the volume rocker on the left edge, two separate keys are now used.

The bottom end of the case seems overloaded, because here are (from left to right): a 3.5 mm audio headset connector, a microUSB connector, a "multimedia" speaker grill, a hole for a "conversational" microphone, and a case with an S Pen. By the way, a similar arrangement of the ringing speaker was in the Galaxy Note 3, and its grille moved to a removable back cover. So the status quo has been restored in the new model.

At the top end, from where the infrared port disappeared, there is a hole for the second microphone, and a closed slot for the nanoSIM subscriber identification module has appeared.

The back panel, made of Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with ergonomic curves to the side edges, was adorned with the Samsung logo. In the upper part of it, they found a place for two holes - for the lens of the main camera, as well as a unit of LED flash and a heart rate sensor.

Thanks to the shape of the back panel, the Galaxy Note 5 fits comfortably in the hand. However, glass, unlike the same soft-touch plastic (as in), is still more slippery and less pleasant to the touch. Although the device was packed in a compact case, and the size of the seemingly large screen (5.7 inches) is no longer amazing, special means were provided in the settings for convenient one-handed operation of the device.

Screen, camera, sound

Displays with a very clear picture, rich colors and wide viewing angles have become one of the "chips" of the models in the Galaxy Note line. Of course, this year's novelty is no exception. Its 5.7-inch Super AMOLED matrix still provides 2560x1440 resolution (Quad HD, 2K). At the same time, the density of pixels per inch according to the manufacturer's calculations is 518 ppi (theoretically 515 ppi). The side frames around the screen are even narrower than they are, so the area occupied by the display on the front panel has increased from 74.39% to 76.62%.

To correct color reproduction that may seem too acidic, there are four profiles available in the screen settings: Basic, AMOLED Photo, AMOLED Movie and Adaptive Display. In the latter case, it automatically optimizes the color range, saturation and sharpness of the image. However, compatibility with third-party programs is not guaranteed. The good anti-glare properties of the screen are complemented by a decent margin of brightness, which allows you to comfortably use your smartphone, even in sunlight. The brightness level is proposed to be adjusted either manually, or use its automatic adjustment by the light sensor.

Capacitive galaxy screen Note 5 supports multitouch, while AntTuTu Tester has confirmed that up to ten simultaneous clicks are recognized. On the protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which should protect the screen not only from scratches, but also when dropped, provided an oleophobic layer. But the option for working with the screen with gloves in the new device is missing. Well, it's easy to get over, though. There are not so many people who like to go through phone numbers in the cold.

The main and front cameras of the novelty are the same as those of the sixth generation S-series flagships (/). So, the main 16-megapixel Sony IMX240 Exmor RS sensor is located on a 1 / 2.6-inch BSI matrix, while the aperture of a lens with an EGF (equivalent focal length) of 27 mm is f / 1.9. The obligatory set includes a system of "smart" optical stabilization, autofocus and LED flash. The maximum possible image resolution is 5312x2988 pixels (16 MP) with an aspect ratio of 16: 9 and 3984x2988 pixels (12 MP) with a classic aspect ratio of 4: 3. Examples of photos can be viewed.

To the delight of selfie lovers, the front camera already has a 5-megapixel sensor (recall that it is 3.7 MP). According to unconfirmed information, a Samsung S5K4E6 sensor with proprietary ISOCELL technology (1/4 inch optical format) is used here. The lens of the photo module has 4-lens optics, an aperture of f / 1.9, an EGF of 22 mm and a viewing angle of up to 120 degrees. So, not only self-portraits, but also group "cross shots" are now obtained with better quality. As before, all the pictures taken can be corrected, beautified and enhanced. The maximum resolution for selfies is 2592x1944 pixels (5 MP, 4: 3), and with a widescreen aspect ratio - 2592x1458 pixels (3.8 MP, 16: 9).

The Camera application interface has several modes, including Auto, Pro, Selective Focus, Panorama, Video Collage, Live Broadcast, Slow Motion (1280x [email protected]), "Accelerated" ( [email protected]) and "Virtual Shooting" (one subject from several sides). At the same time, for the front camera, in addition to "Self-portrait" and "Group Selfie", the "Shot interval" mode has been added. For example, in Pro mode, you can save uncompressed RAW images, while Live mode allows you to upload videos to your YouTube channel.

The volume keys are used to control zoom and video or photo capture. A very convenient quick launch of the "Camera" application by double pressing the "Home" key also migrated to the Galaxy Note 5 from the flagship smartphones. Shooting on the front camera is also activated without touching the screen, for example, using an open palm gesture or a voice command. In addition, it is convenient to fix the "self" options by simply touching the heart rate sensor located on the back of the case, in the same unit with the flash.

The main camera can shoot Full HD video (1920 x 1080 pixels) at 60 fps, as well as Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) and 4K or Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) at 30 fps. But the front camera has the best recording at the same frame rate only in Quad HD quality. All content is saved in MP4 container files (AVC - video, AAC - audio).

Since the grill of the "multimedia" speaker is located at the bottom end of the case, it does not overlap in almost any position of the smartphone. Of course, you can specifically close it with your fingers, and then the volume drops very significantly. There are several options available in the settings, allowing, in particular, to select the optimal sound level, emulate the tone of a tube amplifier or recreate a surround sound effect. It is suggested to experiment with the playback speed. Music lovers also have a 7-band equalizer with presets and manual adjustment. Using standard smartphone tools, you can listen to audio files created by codecs for compressing audio data without loss of quality (lossless codecs) with the FLAC extension.

On synthetic tests AnTuTu Benchmark 5.7.1, the novelty looked pretty confident and scored 64,738 "virtual parrots". Note that he could count on about 50 thousand "virtual birds" in this test.

In the Vellamo benchmarks in multi-core tests (MultiCore), the Galaxy Note 5 was in the lead with a score of 3,169 points, but dropped ahead of the flagship in evaluating "horsepower" in the processor test (Metal).

On the Epic Citadel visual test with variable High Performance and High Quality settings (performance versus quality and vice versa), the average frame rate at 2560x1440 pixels differed in values \u200b\u200bonly after the decimal point. Changing the setting to Ultra High Quality predictably lowered the value of this parameter.

The smartphone performed very confidently on the universal gaming benchmark 3DMark, where the result obtained on the recommended Sling Shot tests (ES 3.1) was 1 211 points.

But the total number of points earned by the Galaxy Note 5 on the cross-platform Base Mark OS II benchmark was 1,725.

There are two versions of the Galaxy Note 5 - with 32 GB and 64 GB of ultra-fast internal memory with UFS 2.0 technology (it works 2.7 times faster than eMMC 5.0 flash memory). In particular, this ensures smooth playback of Ultra HD videos. For the test, we got a model with 32 GB, where only about 25 GB is available, and of course, even less is free. Unfortunately, there is no slot for expanding this storage, as, for example, in here. However, thanks to the support of the USB-OTG technology, you can connect an ordinary USB flash drive to the device.

The set of communications includes, among other things, a 2-band Wi-Fi module 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac (2.4 and 5 GHz), Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2, ANT +, DLNA, NFC. Alas, the infrared port turned out to be overboard, which was not clear what interfered with. Recall that, along with other important changes, in Bluetooth version 4.2, the speed of information exchange between devices has been increased while simultaneously reducing power consumption.

The microSIM card was replaced by a subscriber identification module of the nanoSIM format (4FF). At the same time, the Galaxy Note 5 smartphone provides for operation in the fourth generation Russian cellular networks. So, with the support of LTE-A (Cat. 6), the data reception speed can reach 300 Mbps.

The multi-system receiver will help in determining the position and navigation. Even indoors, satellites from the GPS, GLONASS and BDS (Beidou) constellations are quickly searched for. There is also support for A-GPS technology (coordination over Wi-Fi and cellular networks).

For fast charging galaxy battery Note 5 requires a dedicated 2-mode device that meets the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 specification. Unfortunately, the smartphone was tested without such an adapter. Recall that wireless charging, starting with the flagship, is supported in two specifications - Qi and Powermat. Compared to last year's model, the capacity of the lithium-ion battery in the Galaxy Note 5 has even decreased - from 3,220 mAh to 3,000 mAh, but this did not affect the autonomy of the device.

On battery tests AnTuTu Tester new smartphone earned 7,701 points, beating the score (6,872) with the same 5.7-inch Quad HD display. But with continuous playback of a test video (MP4 format, Full HD-quality, at full brightness), the battery level decreased by only 6-7% every hour, which made it possible to easily overcome the 10-hour milestone.

As for energy saving, there are two special modes, including extreme. At the same time, it is the latter that turns the device into a simple "dialer". Typical common economy measures include lowering maximum processor performance, lowering screen brightness and frame rate, reducing display timeout, disabling vibration feedback, and so on.

Features of the software

The Galaxy Note 5 smartphone runs on Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) operating system with the well-known proprietary TouchWiz shell installed on top of it.

The interface of this launcher, in fact, is no different from that used in the technological flagship.

Taking into account the presence of a large screen (5.7 inches), the settings provided special tools for convenient one-handed operation of the device.

In addition, you can communicate with the device with gestures.

Providing secure access to your smartphone and some websites is suggested using a fingerprint scanner built into the Home key. It should be noted that his work did not cause any complaints.

But the updated S Health app will help you control your well-being.

Work with theSPen

Undoubtedly, the key "highlight" of the devices included in the Galaxy Note line is the S Pen. We reviewed its work in some detail in the review. In the new model, this tool, in addition to a number of design changes (including the spring extraction mechanism), received additional functionality.

So, now you can take notes on the screen without even unlocking your smartphone, and it is easy to leave your notes to the text, for example, in PDF files. In addition, in many cases, it is convenient to switch to the S Pen functions immediately after removing the pen, without additional manipulation of the control button when the context menu is launched.

Purchase, conclusions

The Galaxy Note 5 smartphone received the same filling as the technological flagship. So, in an ergonomic case made of glass and metal, there was a place for one of the most powerful 8-core processors, 4 GB of RAM, a Quad HD display, advanced cameras, support for fast and wireless charging, a fingerprint scanner, etc. Visually distinguishes this device from the lack of a curved screen. So those who are not interested in the functionality of a smartphone with a stylus are likely to opt for a spectacular technological flagship.

If we take into account the capabilities of the S Pen electronic pen, then, perhaps, only its predecessor, which now looks more attractive at a price (34,990 rubles for the 32 GB version), will be able to compete with the Galaxy Note 5 on equal terms. For the Galaxy Note 5 with 64 GB of internal memory (in black and silver), the recommended price was set at 59,990 rubles. For the version with 32 GB, according to Yandex.Market, they ask about 44 thousand rubles on the Internet.

The fact that the Galaxy Note 5 with the rear panel is left without a third microphone and a glove mode (for the screen) is unlikely to greatly upset many. Even the absence of an IrDA is quite possible to survive. Much more serious are the disadvantages associated with the presence of a non-removable battery and built-in memory that cannot be expanded. As for the rest, the new product certainly surpasses last year's model.

Today we will take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. When I took this smartphone in hand, the first thing I realized was that I was so old that I remember being delighted with the very first Galaxy Note. I've tested every one of them and even bought almost every one. Except for Note 2 - I didn't like it that much because it was too glossy and plastic. Note went through different design times, but one thing remained constant - it was the embodiment of maximum functionality and practicality. But this year everything has changed.

Now the Note 5 is no longer uncompromisingly feature rich, it is premium. Not in terms of expensive, it was so, it now looks and feels more expensive than it used to be. But the functionality has also become simpler. As in the case of the iPhone 6s Plus, I will not go into detail about everything in the Note 5, because I, you can say, have already reviewed this smartphone, it was only named.

The two models were unveiled at the same event, and Samsung is obviously offering an alternative to those who have always liked the Note line, not because of the stylus, but because of the size of the displays and top-end specs.

Samsung was the first to showcase the cool phablet, and they held the lead for a long time. But today others have learned to make ergonomic and productive large phones, and only the lazy did not show stylus. Therefore, now you need to surprise with something else, and fortunately, Samsung has curved displays... About which, by the way, everyone only says how beautiful they are. And I myself have been going with the S6 Edge + for over a month now - I confirm.

Speaking of functionality, it is worth noting that the Note 5 has lost a few things: IrDA, removable battery and, most sadly, memory card slot. Why is the latter so important? Because the Note 4 and all the "notes" before it had the opportunity to get more than 64 GB of storage. In the new product, this is already the limit, there is no 128 GB version. Even the version for two SIM cards does not make it possible to put a memory card, although there were such rumors. It's a pity. Goodbye era.

But even these nuances cannot affect the fact that the smartphone is gorgeous. Yes, part of the audience will whine, but for the general public, the smartphone has become better. Firstly, it is even better assembled and certainly will not start to creak - it is not demountable. Secondly, the metal is no longer painted at all, which means it will not start to peel off. Thirdly, glass is much more pleasant to look and feel than plastic. Another thing is that it beats easier and it is harder to replace it.

As you can see, unlike the S6 Edge +, the Note 5 has curved edges at the back, and the curve follows that of the Edge + screen. Such a detail that unites these models.

And the Note 5's screen is as flat as before. The diagonal has not changed for three generations and is 5.7 ″, and the resolution is the same as in the Note 4 - QHD. The pixel density is 518 per inch, which, everyone knows, is more than just enough. Needless to say, the quality is excellent? Super Amoled is liked by almost everyone who picks up this smartphone. This was not always the case, this type of display has gone through a lot: the awful Pen Tile, greenery, "wrinkled eyes" and more. But today the displays look chic without exaggeration, retaining their strengths: rich colors and perfect black. There are practically no frames here, the display occupies 75% of the front side area. Due to the absence of bending, the hand does not cover part of the display, and accidental presses occur less often, but still happen.

About the camera, I probably just will not pour water again, no one needs it. Here it is the same as in S6 Edge +, and we recently compared it in a detailed way with competitors in - and. And here I am. In a nutshell: she is the best in the photo, but in scenes with many objects, the overshoot is wild; in the video it is good, but inferior to the iPhone 6s Plus. Examples of photos and videos in large quantities can be found on the links above!

In principle, hardware and software, with the exception of the stylus component, are also similar to those in the S6 Edge +. I will not list, but I will leave a small essay already directly from personal experience. Autonomy, in principle, is sufficient for a whole day of work from one charge, but this is in a rather sparing mode. If you use the smartphone more or less actively, but without games, then it will be asked to charge by 6-7 pm. And if it's completely hardcore, then it depends only on the degree of hardcore. It is possible to discharge it in a few hours.

I will also say that everything works quickly, including heavy games, but nobody canceled the harm from QHD. Games at maximum speed sometimes sag in fps, tanks can show 20-30 in different situations. But the situation is much better than in Note 4. But the software in 95% of cases is very happy, as on the first day: everything is fast and, most importantly, now it is beautiful. But sometimes there are floods when exiting the blocked state, and for 10-15 seconds. Probably because of the test firmware.

Well, the main feature of every Galaxy Note is its S-Pen stylus. It has several differences from the previous generation, but they all do not relate to the quality of drawing. Here, as there were 2048 degrees of depression, it remains, and this, as I understand it, is still a record value among competitors. Now the S-Pen is not just pulled out of the case, it is completely hidden by default, and in order to get it, you have to snap it off like a regular pen.

The second change is that you can now draw or take notes directly on the locked display. Well, and a little trick - there was a sound as if you were really writing. Everything, these are all changes! For that is "Easter egg"! This is the first Note in which the stylus can be inserted with one or the other side. But only one can get it! Who does not understand what it is about - watch the video review, everything is there!

And now a few words about what is happening. As I suggested above, Samsung is starting to put more emphasis on the model without a stylus, and it is she who, it seems to me, will now be considered the top-end in the Samsung lineup. And Note, sadly, is slowly turning into a niche product just for those who need the capabilities of a stylus. It's sad not because the company is doing something wrong, but because this is, whatever one may say, an era. Very small, but still. In fairness, it should be noted that most Note users really bought it not because of the stylus in the first place - only a few percent use it for its intended purpose. And the rest either do not get it at all, or use it, but very rarely. So was I.

Do I like it all? Probably more yes than no. The only drawback that I find it hard to live with is the lack of a memory card slot. The battery can still be replaced, but the infrared port ... Well, you'll have to use the remote controls the old fashioned way! But the design and materials have really become more pleasant, and most importantly, now the smartphone looks much more attractive. I always judge not only by how it seems to me, but by how they react to the device. It is viewed as something premium and expensive.

By the way, about the price. In Ukraine, it was announced for 19,999 UAH, which, looking at the iPhone 6s, is very good. I expected the cost at the start to be higher. Write what you think, are you happy with the update, will you change your Note to a new one?

Probably, any resident of Russia aged 18+ remembers that fleeting period when iPnone had not yet received such a wide and universal location in our country, and the model range from Samsung had already put on sale amazing new items almost every month. Some should also remember how the South Korean developer gradually moved towards a device that would become an intermediate option between small phones and large-screen tablets. Such models were the Galaxy Note line.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy Note 5

With the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 models, smart Korean developers have decided to slightly adjust their sales tactics. From now on, the title of flagships has passed to the Edge series models, but the famous Note "shovels" have become an exclusive item - the lineup has moved into the category of niche phones, sales of which continued only in certain countries. These included, for example, South Korea itself, as well as America. Despite the fact that the Note series was equipped with the most advanced technologies, popularity and active promotion remained the companions of the world-renowned Samsung Galaxy S. But is it really justified?

Housing

In its external design, the Galaxy Note 5 is not so different from its S6 counterpart. The same smooth outlines, slightly curved lines, bevels on the sides of the screen. Someone will find this option even more convenient - many users at the very beginning of their acquaintance with the sixth model of the famous flagships complained about the inconvenience of a curved screen. Like, like it or not, but with your hand on the side you will touch something. Note 5 in this regard is much more convenient and familiar, it has no problems with accidental touches. And the notorious bend is not on the front of the case, but on the back is the curved back of the phone.

The body itself is made of 7000 series aluminum and 2.5D glass, which gives the gadget, in general, a very stylish and expensive look. Seasoned Samsung users know that the type of glass installed here - Corning Gorilla Glass 4 - although it looks impressive, is actually quite easily soiled. Not a single fingerprint will be left out - everything will be collected on the phone case. Especially on a device in dark colors.

Oddly enough, a cover can save your phone case from many remaining prints

By the way, the Galaxy Note 5 has only four color options: Black (Black Sapphire), Martian Pink (Martian Pink), Gold (Gold), Silver (Silver). If the prospect of having a phone with a coating, permanently ready to present material for fingerprint examination, does not scare you, choose light shades of the case - prints on them are not so noticeable.

Most of the panel, as it should be, is occupied by the screen. Under it is a mechanical Home button, which is also a built-in fingerprint scanner. To the right of Home are touch buttons "Return" and "Context Menu". Above, above the screen, there is a speaker, a front camera, a developer's logo, a proximity sensor.

The Galaxy Note 5 is a phablet, so its dimensions are of a certain size. The height and width of the phone are 153.2x76.1 mm, the width is 7.6 mm. The weight is 171 g.

In general, the phone is secure and very comfortable in the hand, but you should not hope that you can reach with your finger from one corner of the screen to another.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 even supports LTE Cat. 9, however, there are practically no such towers in Russia

Memory

To the delight of many users, the Galaxy Note 5 comes with 4GB of RAM. To their grief, the phone cannot boast of a special scale in gigabytes of internal memory - only 32 and 64 GB versions are available to choose from. At the same time, the really available space will be 10 GB less, because the rest will go to the Android system files.

You will also not be able to correct the situation with a flash card - there is simply no slot for a drive.

It would seem only disappointment. However, this is not quite true. 4 GB of RAM will allow your device to significantly save resources when loading various data, which will significantly affect the speed of the phone. And 32/64 GB (even taking into account the places crammed for the system files) is not so little.

Battery

This samsung version The Galaxy Note has a smaller battery than its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 4. But "less" doesn't mean "worse." The installed battery has a capacity of 3000 mAh. With continuous operation, the smartphone can withstand about 12 hours without problems, which is quite enough for one working day. If you use the device only when necessary, the charge will last for a couple of days. Available time of work on the Internet reaches 10-13 hours. Video playback time can last up to 15 hours, listening to audio - up to 64. The duration of a continuous call reaches 22 hours.

In addition, the Note 5 has a wireless charging feature that allows the phone to fully recharge its charge in 120 minutes.

In addition, there is also fast charging. For it, a special adapter for the charger is used, which outputs a current of 9 V (1.67 A) and 5 V (2 A). This allows the phone to charge from scratch in 90-100 minutes. In 30-40 minutes, the charge is replenished by about two-thirds of its full capacity.

Other "goodies"

Samsung Galaxy Note 5, in addition to the listed features, has a number of conveniences that greatly facilitate and color the life of its owner.

The fingerprint scanner

It is located in place of the mechanical Home button under the phone screen. As already mentioned, the size of the scanner is larger than that of its S6 / S6 Edge counterparts, which makes the key itself much more convenient. Fingerprint recognition has been brought to perfection - a rare touch is not recognized the first time. The scanner greatly facilitates the work with social networks - in some services, you can not enter your username, email address and password, but simply provide a fingerprint. The same operation can be performed when performing various payment actions.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has even bigger and more accurate fingerprint scanner

Samsung branded apps

In order to expand the functionality of the phone and make it even more comfortable to use, the developers have placed several of their proprietary applications in the Note 5. These include S Health, S Note and Samsung Gear... The first, as it is not difficult to guess, allows you to effortlessly monitor the physiological parameters and physical activity of the user. This includes pressure, blood oxygen level, distance traveled, heart rate, etc. Second, notes, under which the phone is “sharpened” with its unique stylus. The third is an application for integrated work with smart samsung watch Gear.

To this list, you need to add Smart Manager, which makes it easier to manage the battery, memory and security of the phablet, as well as S Voice, an analogue of Apple's Siri and Windows Cortana.

S Note is useful for always busy users who constantly need to take vital notes Smart Manager makes it easier to manage the security of the phone, its memory S Health will be an excellent assistant for those who monitor their health

Stylus

The main difference between the Galaxy Note line and any other samsung series lies in the stylus. In this version of Note, he received the widest possible possibilities. For example, now the stylus can work on the locked screen of the phone or make various notes in working documents in PDF format. You can select images directly while viewing, add comments to them, and also highlight difficult areas for copying. Quite convenient is the ability to "hook" a certain application to take out the pen from the slot. The anti-loss function has also been preserved: in case you suddenly pulled out the stylus and, having forgotten to insert it into place, are going to leave somewhere to go away, the phone will instantly remind you of the “loss” by vibration.

The S Note interface is very simple and straightforward to use

Camera

The Galaxy Note 5 has a camera with the latest 16MP camera module with hybrid phase detection autofocus. At the same time, the aperture of the main lens is F1.9, and its focal length is 26-27 mm.

Like most models from the mid-range, the camera has several standard modes, as well as the famous Pro mode, which gives its owner access to completely manual settings. If you consider yourself a good photographer and love tinkering with settings for each shot, this mode is definitely for you. For those who love simplicity and speed, a standard set of modes has been developed, and in addition to it - the ability to download new ones from the Internet.

Now launching the camera has become much faster - you can do this by double-clicking on the mechanical Home button, which is located under the screen. Anyone who used to complain about the long loading of the camera in Samsung will now be unable to say anything.

Daytime shooting

As always, Samsung's best shots come in good light conditions. Here you have excellent detailing, and the absence of various blurring, and a bright juicy picture at the output with good contrast and fairly accurate color reproduction. White balance is extremely close to the original, and the brightness of the pictures is not satisfactory.

It is impossible not to note the very tangible desire of the phablet to embellish the picture - the sharpness sometimes seems unnaturally high, and the saturation of not every image can be shoved into the Super AMOLED display. However, in general, pictures in good lighting conditions can be rated at "5". By the way, the Note 5 has optical stabilization. Which is very good for the pictures.

It is worth saying a few words about the panorama mode. The Note 5 has no problem getting wide-angle cards either. The panorama is glued together without noticeable seams and transitions, the quality of the final image is high. True, the weight of such a photo will also be rather big - in one photo, cook about 50-60 megapixels.

Another mode that you might find interesting is Selective Focus. It allows you to adjust the focus on the image even after you have captured it.

The front camera, although inferior in the number of megapixels, is not inferior in image quality

Video

The maximum available video expansion for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is 3840 x 2160 pixels. Frame rate - 30 per second. In this case, the sound is recorded in stereo quality. Amazing, isn't it? However, such a recording can last as little as 5 minutes. In addition, the smartphone can also shoot FullHD at a frequency of 30 and 60 fps.

As for the most interesting modes, the Note 5 has the ability to record video in slow motion, the so-called Slowmo. The quality of such a video reaches 720p at a speed of 120 fps. Sound is recorded in the same way.

Price range

The price of a smartphone depends on the amount of its memory. The smaller 32GB version has an average price range of RUB 27,990 - RUB 28,990. A more capacious 64GB Galaxy Note 5 will cost its owner 32,759 - 36,714 rubles.
