Which huawei phones have two radio modules. The bitter truth about phones with two active SIM cards

In 2016, you won't surprise anyone with a smartphone with two sim cards. If earlier this functionality was considered the lot of budget Chinese handsets, now global giants (like Samsung or Sony) do not neglect installing a second slot in their flagships. Only Apple stands on the sidelines, seemingly not going to be led by the market.

At first glance, all smartphones with two SIM cards are no different in terms of working with networks. But in fact, they can be divided into 2 groups: Dual Standby and Dual Active. The main differences between them are that in dual technology Standby SIM cards work alternately, and in Dual Active in parallel, independent of each other.

The first technology is easier to implement and therefore occurs most often. In this technology, the phone does not exchange data with communication towers simultaneously with two sim cards, but does it alternately, then one, then the second. This is enough for the towers located in the access zone to confirm the activity of the subscriber.

The disadvantage of Dual Standby technology is that the device is unable to simultaneously send a request from two SIM cards. As a result, when a conversation is being conducted on one SIM card, the second is not available. Sometimes it will not be possible to get through if one of the cards supports an Internet connection, exchanging packet data with the database. And if both numbers belonging to the same operator are assigned identical IMEIs, then at such moments the activity of one SIM card can completely "knock out" the other from the network.

For smartphones with two radio modules (Dual Active technology), these problems are not relevant. Each sim card has its own active transceiver, with which it keeps in touch with the base. Accordingly, if you are talking on one number, you will be able to hear and receive a call to the second number at the same time. The only pity is that in 2016 there are not many such pipes left.

Two active modules increase the cost of production, require fine optimization of energy consumption, and therefore are not popular among manufacturers. Our material is devoted to those few smartphones that are equipped with two radio modules, and which are still relevant in 2016.

Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML is a relatively fresh, and therefore relevant, smartphone with two radio modules. It was released in March 2015, and now the device can be purchased at prices ranging from 180 (2 GB RAM / 16 GB ROM) to 350 (4 GB RAM / 64 GB ROM) dollars. In addition to memory sizes, processor versions differ. The 2 GB model uses Intel Atom z3560 (4 x86 cores, up to 1.8 GHz), with 4 GB - z3580 (4 x86 cores, up to 2.3 GHz).

Asus ZenFone 2 screen - 5.5-inch FullHD, with IPS matrix and 3rd generation Gorilla glass. The camera is 13 MP, with a dual flash, f / 2.0 aperture and autofocus (not laser, conventional). operating system - Android 5, an update to the "six" is planned.

A 3000 mAh battery is typical for a phablet, but considering that 2 modules mean increased power consumption, the battery life can be called average. The Asus ZenFone 2 will last two days only if it is not overloaded. In general, the device is balanced, and thanks to the hardware from Intel it is also quite fast.

The second smartphone with two simultaneously working radio modules is Huawei Honor 7. It was released in July 2015, now it can be bought for 350 US dollars. The smartphone runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 935 chip, which has eight cores (frequencies up to 2.2 GHz). RAM 3 GB, built-in storage - 16 or 64 GB. There is a slot for a memory card, it is combined with the slot of the second sim card.

The display of Huawei Honor 7 is built on an IPS matrix with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, and a diagonal of 5.2 ". The 20 MP camera has an aperture of f / 2.0, is equipped with phase detection autofocus and dual flash. The smartphone is running Android Lolipop, you can upgrade to the sixth version. ...

Non-removable battery with a capacity of 3100 mAh. It will last for 13 hours of reading, 10 hours of video, 4 hours of games or 2 days of standby time. Huawei Honor 7 is a really good, once-flagship gadget from a Chinese manufacturer, and one of the few "pure" dual-sim phones in this category.

Huawei has other products with Dual Active SIM support (almost every model over $ 250 comes with this modification). But everything is very complicated there with the versions: for different regions of the world, they put radio modules, sharpened for the frequencies of a particular market. Among the "Europeans" other two-symbolic devices of Huawei are not found.

HTC Desire 700 is a real long-liver: it was introduced back in November 2013, and appeared on sale at the beginning of 2014. At the moment, its characteristics look relevant only in the budget category. It's a shame to pay $ 165 for a model that is more than 2 years old, but if you need a phone with two active radio modules, there is not much choice.

HTC Desire 700 is powered by a 1.2MP quad-core processor. There is 1 GB of RAM, about 5 GB out of a total of 8 are allocated for data. There is a MicroSD slot. The screen is a five-inch 960x540. The camera has a resolution of 8 MP, is equipped with autofocus and diode flash. The OS of the device is already outdated Android 4.1.

The battery in HTC Desire 700 is removable, its capacity is 2100 mAh. A little, but enough for a day of moderate loads. But longer - how it goes: if both SIM cards are active, the charge is consumed quickly.

Lenovo K910SS

Lenovo Vibe Z K910SS is another not new, but still relevant smartphone with two radio modules. It was released in September 2013 and was probably the last Lenovo with support for the simultaneous operation of both sim cards in transfer mode. The model with two Ss in the suffix is \u200b\u200bthe Chinese version, which is not easy to find, but still realistic. The issue price is about $ 200.

The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It is a quad-core chip, clocked at up to 2.2 GHz, which is the flagship of 2013. The RAM in Vibe Z is 2 GB, which is normal even by the standards of 2016. About 12 GB (out of 16) are allocated for files, there is no memory card slot, but there is OTG.

The screen with a diagonal of 5.5 inches is equipped with a FullHD IPS matrix. Safety glass (Gorilla Glass 3) is present. The 13 MP camera is unremarkable: there is autofocus, there is a flash, video in FullHD writes, the overall quality of shooting is average. Initially, the Android 4.2 OS was installed on the smartphone, later version 4.4 appeared, and the craftsmen ported CyanogenMod to android base 5.1.

The 3050 mAh battery provides autonomy, which there is nothing to blame or praise for. 4 hours of games, 8-10 videos, 12 readings, a little over 2 days in standby mode are typical figures for most smartphones.

Conclusion

Finding the current smartphone with two radio modules is not easy. As the review showed, all devices supporting the simultaneous activity of both sim cards were released in 2013-2015. Plus, most of them are either made in China, or for China, or both at the same time.

Given the trend, the second radio module will soon become a thing of the past. However, if you do not want to miss a call on one card when another is active, you can simply set up cross-forwarding. And then a call to an unavailable number will automatically be redirected to the one you are currently talking to.

Smartphones with support for two SIM cards have spread so much over the past few years that now it is not difficult to buy such a gadget for every taste and wallet, from simple dialers to flagships. But almost all of them work with SIM-cards in alternating (DSDS) mode, and to find a device in which both SIM-cards would work simultaneously (DSDA), you have to try.

I knew the basic principles of smartphones in both modes, but still, it turned out there is interesting moments... Look ...

DSDS or DSDA?

In the overwhelming majority of modern communication gadgets, two SIM cards operate in DSDS (Dual SIM Dual Standby), which in Russian is usually called "alternate". The principle of operation of DSDS is that both SIM cards use one radio module. Smartphones with DSDS can have either one or two iMEI numbers (international mobile communication identifier), but the presence of the second is not required according to the rules of the GSM Association.

The ability to receive calls to any of the SIM-cards is due to the fact that in Standby mode, SIM-cards can "communicate" with the network simultaneously due to time multiplexing. In the event of a call to one of the SIM-cards, the second is simply turned off - at such a moment you can neither call nor send a message to it.

Another disadvantage of DSDS is the lower quality of communication compared to phones with one SIM card. The radio module has to constantly carry a double load and, as a rule, "communicate" with different base stations of different operators. For the same reasons, things are not so smooth with mobile internet: It is almost impossible to get the maximum data transfer rate on DSDS devices.

Of course, in fact, everything is not so bad: DSDS-smartphones are usually cheaper and last longer on a single battery charge, and modern models are quite capable of providing decent communication quality.

But if you want to get the most reliable "dual SIM" gadget, you need to look for devices with support for DSDA mode (Dual SIM Dual Active). Such smartphones are equipped with two independent radio modules, each of which must have its own IMEI. Due to the presence of two radio modules, communication is usually more stable. Plus, they allow you to simultaneously receive calls to both SIM cards or talk on the phone and at the same time watch the necessary information on the Internet. But such gadgets consume more energy - this feature should be borne in mind. Also, the second radio module in DSDA smartphones is often limited to 2G or 3G networks, but this is done to reduce the cost of the device and increase its autonomy.

By the way, when I saw almost five-digit phones on Chinese sites.

Due to numerous requests from our regular readers (and we are sure that all our visitors are regular :)), our article today will be devoted to smartphones with two radio modules. Smartphones with two SIM cards it is already difficult to surprise someone, almost all manufacturers have started producing such devices. But they have one minor limitation. You will not be able to get a call to the second phone number if you speak on the first one. We see that people are looking for these gadgets, but it is very, very difficult to find such gadgets.

They have many undeniable advantages:

  • you are always connected, both SIM cards are active. If you have one SIM card for "home" and the second for "work", colleagues or relatives will always find you;
  • more stable work of the Internet. When you talk to one number, the second will still receive messages by e-mail or on social networks;
  • significant savings on calls. By connecting to two different operators mobile communications, you can reduce your costs depending on your needs;
  • mobility. No need to carry two gadgets with you;

Unfortunately, such phones have one unpleasant feature of being quickly discharged.

But let's talk better about pleasant things, namely, which popular smartphones with two radio modules or two active SIM cards presented in stores today. Manufacturers do not particularly delight us with such versions of phones, it is really a rarity to find this smartphone, we tried to select gadgets that can still be found in stores or bought on the Aliexpress site.

Let's start with one of the main hits of 2015. The smartphone from Asus comes in three different versions, and in our opinion, version ZE551ML ideal... This is the embodiment of simplicity and reliability. Beautiful 5.5-inch screen, Full HD IPS with Gorilla Glass 3 and oleophobic coating. Shows in the sun sufficient brightness and excellent color rendering... The cameras are also pleased with the 13 megapixel main and 5 megapixel front, it is enough for video calls and great selfies. Cameras are customizable so you can create real works of art. The amount of RAM is as much as 4 GB, we could not find applications and games that would "slow down" in work. 32 GB is available for storing personal data, i.e. in addition to a smartphone with two active SIM cards, you get a perfect smart phone with excellent performance and NFC support. The battery is installed with a 3000 mAh lithium polymer with fast charging technology. In 40 minutes, the phone charged up to 80% from scratch.

Huawei Ascend Mate7 Premium

Trademark Huawei it has been pleasing its customers for several years with interesting novelties, but the most interesting model smartphone with two radio modules, we consider Huawei Ascend Mate7 Premium... Stylish design, solid metal body, minimal bezels, the screen itself is 6 inches (read also), the sound quality is amazing, in other words, the "filling" of the latest technology. Android 4.4 is installed, but the manufacturer promised to release an update to 5.0. Fingerprint sensor did not work correctly all the time, we are generally skeptical about such functions in the phone, but the manufacturers think differently and do everything to increase the cost of the device. But for those who are afraid for their personal data and who have something to hide, this function may be useful.

RAM 3 GB, adding up to 4 GB would have been a rational decision, but we decided that this would be enough. Support for LTE networks, the quality of communication is excellent, GPS / GLONASS satellites catch quickly and with high accuracy. Supports memory cards up to 128GB, but some users note installation options up to 256 GB... Built-in memory 32 GB. The battery in the smartphone is not removable, volume of 4100 mAh, withstands 2 days of active load calmly, in addition, it is possible to recharge other devices using the special cord included in the kit.

The smartphone is positioned in the premium class, but it lacks something for the speed of work, there are small problems with the proprietary EMUI shell. But if it doesn't scare you, then huawei smartphone Ascend Mate7 Premium with two active radios will be a real godsend.

The model from HTC is already a bit outdated, but among what you can choose from smartphones with two active SIM cards, this phone is one of the best. So, what can the HTC ONE M7 Dual offer us? There is no need to flatter yourself much about the capabilities of the device. there is nothing outstanding in the smartphone. Unfortunately, there is a limitation on the operation of SIM cards: if the first slot supports 2G and 3G networks, then the second only works with second generation networks. The smartphone has a removable aluminum back cover, which significantly makes the gadget heavier, but, at the same time, gives reliability and solidity.

When we saw that the smartphone has a battery of only 2300 mAh, at first we did not believe it and thought that we were facing some kind of defective version of the phone, but it turned out that this was a real battery and not a joke. Sometimes it is difficult to keep the charge even from morning to evening. You need to reduce the activity of using smartphones to a minimum or carry PowerBank in your pocket.

Cameras in the device are installed, apparently, in order to simply say that they are. Front 2.1 Mp, rear 4 Mp.

For all other parameters, it turned out to be an ordinary average phone for those who need a "dialer", but with two active sims: rAM 2 GB, built-in 32 GB, proprietary interface HTC Sense UI has always been HTC's signature... We personally did not experience any problems in our work, but some note an “eternal” problem with the microphone, so choose the device carefully and check it right in the store.

When buying a smartphone from Lenovo, make sure that the K910 model has two letters "S", they mean that we have a smartphone with two radio modules. The phone turned out to be classic in design, but, nevertheless, calmly copes with everyday tasks. On board good processor with a frequency of 2.2 GHz and 2 GB of RAM... Unfortunately, only 16 GB of storage is available to the user, so we advise you to immediately purchase an additional memory card. The screen is excellent, with excellent viewing angles, a resolution of 1080 × 1920 and a diagonal of 5.5 inches, protected by glass Gorilla Glass 3... It fits comfortably in the hand, weighing only 147 grams. The microUSB port supports OTG technology.

The cameras are ordinary - 13 Mp rear and 5 Mp front. Nothing outstanding, but the pictures are quite decent. At work with two radio modules There were no problems, it is a little inconvenient to choose which card to call from, but you can quickly get used to it.

Another smartphone from HTC got into our article. Users call it one of the best smartphones with simultaneous operation of two SIM cards. This is a simplified version of the company's famous flagship. The device is very stable. We did not notice any disruptions in work. Looks very prestigious... There are no significant advantages in it, but it has something special, the perfect combination of price and quality. RAM is only 1 GB, and 8 GB is available to store your files, videos or photos, memory cards up to 64 GB are supported. The screen is 5 inches with a resolution of only 540 × 960, but it is made of quite high quality and does not cause discomfort during work.

The smartphone uses technology HTC BoomSound, it delivers superior sound quality with dual front-facing stereo speakers.

The 8MP rear camera showed excellent results despite its modest specifications. Video recording takes place in FullHD 1080p format.

Outcome

This is, perhaps, all that we wanted to tell you about smartphones with two radio modules. For yourself, you should determine whether you need such a gadget or not. Unfortunately, manufacturers believe that it is impractical to produce such devices, in some European countries it is even illegal to use such phones by law. Perhaps in the future the situation will somehow change, but today the forecast is negative. Everything rests on the battery, which, as usual, remains the weak point of all phones. You may have a mega-cool machine, but if its battery lasts only half a day, then it's no use. Tell us about your experience of using such gadgets, write about them in the comments, and we will definitely create an overview on them in our next articles.

Let's start with the most technically advanced machines in which the manufacturers have made a hybrid slot. Either a nano-SIM or a card is inserted into it microSD memory... This saves space in the case, which is already worth its weight in gold in thin modern smartphones. Well, the user has to choose whether to use the second SIM card, or listen to the music that is stored on the memory card. But in fairness, we note that with a storage volume of 64 GB or more, it is not a fact that MicroSD will be needed at all.

In addition to the attractive design, the device is distinguished by a dual sensor of the main camera - one of the modules is widescreen. The case is shockproof to MIL-STD-810G and water ingress to IP68.

LG G6 also works with two SIM-cards, the second slot is hybrid. In principle, you can survive this with a 64GB drive. Although the possible microSD capacity is not limited to the standard 256 GB, memory expansion with cards up to 2 TB is allowed.

HTC U 11

HTC finally managed to "shoot" a new smartphone: it looks interesting, has top-end hardware, a high-end camera, decent battery life and high quality sound... Moreover, the smartphone is equipped with the Edge Sense function - the edges of the case are slightly compressed in response to the strength and duration of touches. Edge Sense can be worn with gloves and some cases. The reaction of the system to "handshakes" is set by the user independently, which is very nice. By default, a short press launches the camera or allows you to take a picture, a long press launches Google Assistant.

The HTC U11 is a pure flagship: a fresh Snapdragon 835 chip, 4 or 6 GB of RAM, a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a 12-megapixel camera with optical stabilization and an aperture of f / 1.7, support for LTE CAT 16 networks. 64 or 128 GB: even in the first case, not to mention the second, the user may not be confused by the hybrid microSD slot.

Smartphones with separate microSD slot

Fortunately for those who like to use both a second SIM card and a memory card, smartphones with separate slots for them are still being released. It is quite possible to choose a device with a modern filling, with which you will not have to compromise.

LG V20 is a device in a practical case: slots for SIM-cards and microSD are separate, and the battery is removable. Above the large 5.7-inch screen, which occupies almost the entire front panel, there is an additional display for notifications, controls and favorite applications. Another feature of the device is a dual module of the main camera (16 + 8 Mp), which until recently was only in premium models. One of the sensors has a 135 ° viewing angle.

At the head here is the fairly fast Snapdragon 820 chip with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Works smartphone based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Officially, the LG V20 never arrived in Russia, it would have been a little expensive - at the start of sales it cost from $ 810 (48,000 rubles). But in small shops the device can now be found for 26,000 rubles.

Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017)

Until recently, the J-series could only scare away buyers with its unsightly appearance and quite "sad" characteristics - only the screen was decent. The lineup update released this year has received many advantages inherent in more expensive smartphones, and the design altogether refers to last year's flagships of the Galaxy S series. The device still has the ability to separately install two nano-SIM and MicroSD - no sacrifices and compromises. Moreover, a memory card will not hurt here - the volume of the drive is only 16 GB.

Got a thin and first in the series metal body, as well as a rounded and bezelless 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen. Compared to last year's version, the agility has not increased much: it still has the same eight-core Exynos 7870, but already with 3 GB of RAM. The battery capacity was added up to 3600 mAh. Added full support Samsung Pay (NFC + MST). The price at the start of sales is 20,000 rubles, but for sure it will fall in the near future.

Made in an aluminum case, supports fast charging and runs on pure Android 7.0 out of the box. Belonging to the middle class, they give out a solid frame size around the 5-inch screen. The heart of the smartphone is Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 with 2 GB of RAM, the Plus version is slightly more productive with a Snapdragon 625 chip and 3/4 GB of RAM. At the presentation, the developers said that they have improved the parameters that buyers initially look at - the screen, camera and autonomy.

The resolution of the IPS-matrix of the Moto G5 is 1920 x 1080 pixels, the 5-inch display supports Always On technology, when the necessary information is displayed on the screen off. The main 13-megapixel camera received phase detection autofocus, the front module has a wide angle of coverage for group selfies. The battery capacity is 2800 mAh, but the manufacturer assures that it will last for the whole day. It is not yet possible to verify this - the smartphone has not yet appeared on the Russian market, in Europe it costs from 200 euros (13,600 rubles), the Plus version with a 5.2 ”screen - from 280 euros (19,000 rubles).

The SIM card slots are hidden under the battery, and one of them is made in micro-SIM format, and the other is in nano-SIM format. A memory card with a capacity of up to 128 GB is inserted into a separate slot, the smartphone's own memory is 16/32 GB in the regular version and 32/64 GB in the increased version.

Smartphones with two radio modules

In all the devices listed above, as in the vast majority of modern smartphones, it is impossible to use two SIM cards at the same time: when the user talks to one number, the second will be busy if they call him. But the models working on Dual Active technology and equipped with two radio modules allow you to receive calls at the same time. It is a pity that now there are very few such smartphones, but we have selected a couple of the most relevant of them.

Our selection includes a novelty of the last year - the more recent "nine" no longer has simultaneous support for both SIM-cards. can receive calls and SMS to two numbers at once, however, the second SIM works only in 2G networks. Simply put, you won't be able to use the Internet simultaneously on both SIM cards. But this is already not bad compared to competitors whose SIM-cards also work alternately for receiving calls.

The smartphone is enclosed in a case with a metal frame and runs on an eight-core proprietary chip Kirin 950, overclocking to 2.3 GHz, with 4 GB of RAM. Inside - 32 or 64 GB of memory and there is a possibility of expansion up to 256 GB (by the way, the slot for the memory card is hybrid).

The camera's image quality is good thanks to the dual main module of 12 megapixels each, however, there is no stabilization when shooting video, and these are not Leica optics The 5.2 ”Full HD screen is highly praised for its color reproduction and brightness. In general, the model has no serious shortcomings, for its 22,000 rubles it is a smartphone with a good camera and screen, decent autonomy and productive filling.

ASUS ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML)

Asus ZenFone 2 was released in 2015, and therefore is still quite fresh. Despite the presence of two radio modules at once, it uses one SIM-card for 3G and LTE networks, the second can also receive only calls and SMS. Slots for micro-SIM are under the cover, there is also a separate slot for microSD, which allows you to add 64 GB of memory.

The device is released in several modifications: with intel processor Atom z3580 up to 2.3 GHz and 2 or 4 GB of RAM. The 5.5-inch IPS screen has a good pixel density (403 PPI) and full resolution HD. The smartphone has a decent array of wireless interfaces, including NFC. The battery capacity is 3000 mAh, but you must remember about the increased power consumption due to two SIM cards. Cameras 13 and 5 MP have "average hospital" characteristics, but this is not the flagship of the line, so it would be foolish to make claims to the device.
