How to connect a Rostelecom set-top box to two TVs

Rostelecom offers its users to purchase a special set-top box for IPTV. This is a tool for watching TV channels via the Internet on a TV. This is not difficult to do, but what if you have not one, but two TVs? Let's take a closer look.

To watch different channels, you need to purchase 2 separate set-top boxes

The equipment offered by Rostelecom is a mini-computer running Linux. The remote control will help you manipulate the settings. The video stream enters the product through a network cable, then it is transmitted through one of the video standards to the TV. Technically, the signal is transmitted from the Internet in mpeg2 or mp4 format. With a weak Internet, certain disadvantages may appear in the form of a trembling “picture” or intermittent broadcasting. The system settings in the receiver's menu allow you to adjust the image quality and image size (up to Full HD).

In addition to TV, the device makes it possible to find out the weather forecast, exchange rates, read news from social networks, etc. Many users appreciated the TV Guide option.

Connecting a set-top box

As described above, with such an assistant from Rostelecom, you can view many HD channels. In addition, the set-top box has utilities for watching movies, recording video files, karaoke, etc. You can check the cost at any provider's office. Today, there are two types of consoles: "Premium" and "Standard". The first option has many useful features and a built-in 0.5 terabyte hard drive, but it will cost much more than the "Standard". A standard TV set-top box does not have a Winchester, but about a hundred channels of various directions are offered. In addition, set-top boxes appeared, to which you can connect via Wi-Fi.

To start using the device, you must not only buy it, but also pay a subscription fee. A specialist from the provider will help you connect the set-top box to the TV. If you are not used to using outside help, then do all the manipulations on your own.

Connection principle

The device comes with various connection elements. We recommend that you check the box with the prefix at the provider's office for the presence of the necessary wires. Don't know what's included? Study the instructions inside the box, it accurately stores such information. Usually the following items are placed in the box:

  • power adapter;
  • console;
  • remote control ;
  • Ethernet wire;
  • HDMI cable;
  • batteries;
  • popularly known "tulip" (wire type AV).

Interestingly, an HDMI cable is not always included in the package.

The receiver from Rostelecom is connected to TVs of new models via an HDMI cable. If such an interface is not available in your device, then you can use an AV adapter, which is sold in computer equipment stores. A number of devices have only a SCART connector, if you are the proud owner of such a TV, then buy an adapter from this interface to HDMI.

Connecting the set-top box to the TV is not enough, it is important to connect it to the Internet. On the panel there is a connector for the RJ-45 interface, an Ethernet cable is inserted into it, which comes from the router.

The last step is to connect the receiver to the mains (use the power supply).

Using the receiver

First, learn how to properly turn on the prefix. After you have paid the subscription fee, you can safely use the device, to do this, turn on the TV and the set-top box using the remotes (each has its own remote). If all the previous steps are completed correctly, then a splash screen will appear on the TV screen, after which the current software will be loaded. After downloading, the system will offer to study the terms of the Offer, they must be confirmed.

Finally, the product is ready to go. There are many useful options in the menu that will give you a whole new world called IPTV.

An important point: do not forget to select the correct type of connection on the TV (if the set-top box is connected via AV, select it)

Connecting two TVs

Users often want to organize interactive TV on several devices at once. This is easy to do - just connect the AV wire to the first TV, and HDMI to the second. Both cables will be connected to the receiver at the other end.

Not enough wire length? Go to any store that sells electrical goods and buy a cable of the required length.

Important point! Using this method, both instruments will show the same channel. To watch different channels on each device, you need to order another receiver.

Connecting a second set-top box is easy, especially if your router has an extra LAN input. The only difficulty is the insufficient length of the Ethernet wire (you need to purchase a product of the required length in advance).

Important point! The load on the network when using two TVs with receivers increases significantly, and due to the growth of traffic in the broadcast, failures and interference may occur.

If you encounter any difficulties, we recommend calling the provider's service center. Experienced professionals will help resolve the issue as soon as possible. Remember that you carry out all the manipulations for connecting the set-top box at your own peril and risk, the company will not cover the cost of repairing the equipment if you disable it.
