Acer Iconia Tab A701 - Specifications. Repair of Acer Iconia tablets in the service center Tablet acer iconia tab

, "Iconium" belongs to the part of tablet computers, the developers of which did not copy the iPad design completely. There are, of course, common features: for example, a black frame covered with the same transparent sheet as the display. And yet, the Iconia Tab A500 has some identity - unlike many other tablets.

On the front side, total minimalism reigns: there are no physical buttons in the Acer Iconia Tab A500, only virtual ones. Of the interesting things here, you can only see a small camera window. And also quite miniature - in the photo it is not visible at all - the light sensor eye.

And, of course, right there is the display - perhaps the strongest point of this tablet computer. With a diagonal of 10 inches, it has a resolution of 1280x800 - the pixel does not hurt the eyes, the picture looks smooth. Also very pleased with the brightness, contrast and viewing angles: the image is clearly visible from almost any reasonable angle. Acer says it uses an MVA-type LCD. Judging by the high image quality, it looks like that.

The back of the device is made of gray metal with a rough-cut effect. Small inserts on the front panel - above and below the display - are made of the same. These are, however, separate parts, not a cunningly bent single sheet of metal.

In general, the body is assembled quite neatly, the panels fit well, so it is pleasant to hold the Iconia Tab A500 in the hands. However, a fairly large number of details sometimes make themselves felt - when twisted, the case still creaks slightly.

There are two speakers in the Iconia Tab A500, both located on the rear panel. The volume of their sound is quite high - at the level of an average laptop. You should not be especially worried that you can block them with your fingers or knees - in this case, "forward" they begin to sound even louder.

There is a second camera on the back. Its lens is slightly larger than that of the front, but also small. A large decorative blotch around the peephole, apparently, should emphasize the steepness of the 5-megapixel matrix.

The steepness, however, is exclusively imaginary: the photos are, to put it mildly, disgusting. It was quite possible to get by with a less "megapixel" camera. Or even remove it altogether - it is difficult to assume that the owner of the tablet will not have at hand, if not a camera, then at least a phone (and nowadays they put much less shameful cameras in mobile phones).

The tablet is thin enough, but without busting, so that a fairly large number of useful elements fit on its lateral faces. They are evenly distributed on different sides, which is quite convenient. On the right are the power button, headphone output and digital video connector - unfortunately, a very exotic Micro HDMI format. To our even greater regret, the corresponding cable was not found in the kit.

On the left, both USB ports fit in: a full-size USB-host, to which you can connect flash drives, and Micro USB-slave, used to communicate with a computer. Here you can also find a reset button and an external power input.

There is an unidentified connector on the underside of the case: it can be assumed that it is intended for connecting a docking station.

At the top there is a rocker button, with which the sound volume is adjusted. Next to it is a miniature slider that fixes the display orientation.

A small plastic door hides a Micro SD card reader. The free space to the left of it in the version with the 3G module will be used for the SIM card slot.

Despite the fact that the Iconia Tab A500 uses a display with the same diagonal as the Archos A101, the Acer tablet is noticeably larger: about a centimeter wider and taller with the same thickness. Why is that? Firstly, Archos used a matrix with an aspect ratio of 16: 9, while Iconium used a 16:10 screen. Secondly, the frame is noticeably wider here.

What's more unpleasant, the tablet is not too light: its weight is 760 grams. Because of the "wide-format" shape of the body, it greatly outweighs if you hold it with one hand - the "supporting" hand quickly becomes numb. Of course, there are no problems when gripping with both hands, but working with the keyboard will not work like that: the screen is too wide for your fingers to reach the center without taking your hand off.

There is no built-in stand here, but Acer offers a stand cover as an additional accessory - albeit without magnets and other wonders of technology.

Usually Acer prefers to save on packaging, which is quite reasonable. But in this case, the box looks expensive - clearly designed for gifts.

The package bundle, however, is minimalistic: in addition to a surprisingly large amount of absolutely pointless waste paper, the box contains only a charger, a Micro USB cable and a microfiber cloth for inevitable cleaning of the glossy display.

The complete power supply unit has an unexpected drawback: the wire is only one meter long. Considering that the sockets are usually located low enough, this allows you to move away from the wall by a maximum of 70 centimeters. So using Iconium while charging is very inconvenient. This can be especially problematic in hotels: hotel designers usually place sockets not in places where they are convenient to use, but in places where they are not striking. Under the bedside table or behind the minibar.

The power supply is surprisingly large: the fact is that its power is quite high, 18 W

The tablet is built on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform and runs on Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb operating system. The volume of permanent memory is 32 GB - plus, of course, there is the possibility of using Micro SD cards.

In addition to the light sensor already mentioned above, the device is equipped with a motion sensor and a GPS module. Wireless communication devices include Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n. A version with a 3G module is not yet available, but Acer assures that everything will definitely be there.

Compared to the previous “phone” versions of Android, the “tablet” version of Honeycomb really works more conveniently. And it looks more neat. Perhaps the tablet "robot" has not yet matured to ideal convenience. But the desire to throw the device out the window, which sometimes appeared when communicating with the phone OS on a tablet and, moreover, on a smartbook, no longer arises. The right way, as they say.

Curiosities of adaptation / localization are still encountered, but not in the same amount as before.

"Do not connect" or "cancel". What to choose? ..

Thanks to Tegra, you can play games that draw a three-dimensional picture on this tablet computer, although you certainly shouldn't expect those beauties that everyone is used to on PC and game consoles. At least for now.

However, the majority will still choose a popular game that is quite successful with a 2D engine, preferring to spend system resources on advanced physics. In both cases, everything works fast enough.

Angry birds look at you as a potential victim

At minimum brightness, the Iconia Tab A500 can work in web surfing mode for up to 8 hours - that is, the battery will last for an entire working day or, if you prefer, for a transatlantic flight.

If you turn the backlight to the maximum, then this time will be reduced to 4.5 hours. However, even with a minimum backlight level, the screen is bright enough to work indoors. "Sufficient" in the most literal sense, the desire to add the backlight level simply does not arise. So in this case, you should still focus on the first value.

⇡ Conclusions

Compared to what the tablet makers offered us last year, this is a significant step forward. A high-quality display, a really user-friendly interface and a normal system speed - besides, the Archos 101 lacked all this. In addition, Acer Iconia Tab A500 is the first tablet in Russian retail, for which they ask for an adequate amount.

If we compare the device with the hit product of a well-known fruit company, there are certain advantages. At the very least, the ability to work normally with files without using a BDSM attraction called iTunes. And even without a computer at all - thanks to a full-fledged USB port and memory card reader. Perhaps, in this form, it all starts to make sense.

Last year, Acer became one of the first manufacturers to enter the market with a tablet running Android Honeycomb, and it was very successful right away (unlike Motorola). The Iconia Tab A500 model has become one of the hits of 2011 due to its functional design and low price. In the fall, Acer strengthened its position by releasing a 3G version of this model (A501), as well as a seven-inch tablet, but also with Android Honeycomb (A100).

In 2012, Acer continues the same strategy (which could be roughly called "faster and cheaper") and releases the first tablet on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich - Iconia Tab A200. Today we will meet him.

But first - our already traditional plate with the characteristics of the hero of the article and the nearest competitors. In addition to the two most attractive tablets of the new year - Apple iPad and ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime - we decided to include the future flagship of Acer - Iconia Tab A510 in the table. In North America, it is already on sale, we are about to release it.

Well, from the comparison of characteristics, several conclusions can be drawn. First, it is obvious that the Iconia Tab A200 belongs to a lower price segment than the flagship models from ASUS and Apple. Secondly, it is certainly less attractive than the Iconia Tab A510 (due to the fact that it runs on Tegra 2, not Tegra 3, and also due to the lack of HDMI output). But this must be compensated for by the price.

Third, the Iconia Tab A200 retains the basic features of the A500, but there are some differences as well. The main positive difference is Android 4.0 instead of Android 3.0. And the main negative ones are the lack of an HDMI output and a rear camera. Well, we will find out the details already upon closer examination of the device, which we will proceed to.

Packaging and equipment

Acer loves big boxes. In this case, the packaging really makes an impression with its size.

Inside we find the tablet itself, a fold-out (like a card) user manual, a charger, a Micro-USB - USB cable, an international passport of the device (for travelers), as well as booklets on safety precautions, warranty conditions.

Design

The tablet is massive and heavy. This is, without a doubt, a "male" model. And although it is a little lighter than the Acer Iconia Tab A500, the first thought when you pick up the A200 is “it's heavy!” Although, objectively speaking, it is not that much heavier than its competitors (the same The New iPad).

The overall contours and design elements are clearly taken from the Iconia Tab A500: rounded corners, tapered top and bottom edges, speakers on the bottom of the back cover.

However, the case material is different from that of the A500. It is a soft-touch rubberized plastic, very pleasant to the touch, and besides, it does not collect fingerprints and micro-scratches.

The location of the connectors is different from the A500. The charger connector is located on the right edge.

There are no connectors on the bottom and top edges, but on top there is a volume rocker and a screen lock lever.

The main set of connectors and slots is located on the left side. This is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a full-fledged USB host for connecting peripherals and external drives, Micro-USB for connecting a tablet to a computer. In addition, on the left side we see the Power button and a lid, under which we find a slot for a microSD memory card and a Reset hole.

Note that the lid opens very tightly. Even if you pry it off with your fingernail, you won't be able to open it - you need to use improvised means such as a knife, paper clip, etc.

It should be noted that the tablet does not have a dock connector (which was in the A500) and HDMI-out. The latter is really sad.

Screen

The actual size of the sides of the usable screen area is 21.7 cm and 13.6 cm. The diagonal is 25.6 cm (10 inches).

Alexey Kudryavtsev, editor of the “Monitors” and “Projectors and TV” sections, carried out a detailed examination of the screen with the use of measuring devices. Here is his conclusion.

The tablet's screen is covered with a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, and, judging by the reflection of bright light sources in it, does not have an anti-glare filter. There is no special oleophobic coating on the outer surface of the screen, so fingerprints are relatively difficult to remove.

With manual brightness control, its maximum value was 222 cd / m2, minimum - 27 cd / m2. As a result, at maximum brightness in bright daylight, you can see something on the screen, but not without some tension, and minimum brightness will allow you to comfortably use the tablet even in complete darkness. There is no automatic brightness control. Brightness is changed using high frequency pulse width modulation (990 Hz), so the backlight flicker is not visible at low brightness.

This tablet uses a * VA matrix, as a result, the screen has very good viewing angles without inverting the shades, even with large gaze deviations from the perpendicular to the screen. True, a color shift is present, for example, with a not very large deviation, pure red becomes noticeably closer to orange. When deviated diagonally, the black field is lightened slightly and does not acquire a noticeable color cast. The black field uniformity is very good when viewed from a perpendicular view. Due to the fact that even at maximum brightness, the backlight has modulation, it is not possible to accurately determine the response time. The gamma curve plotted at 32 points did not reveal a significant blockage in either highlights or shadows, and the exponent of the approximating power function turned out to be 2.32, which is quite close to the standard value of 2.2, while the real gamma curve coincides well with the power law addiction.

The contrast is quite high - 1600: 1. The color gamut is noticeably narrower than sRGB:

The spectra confirm this:

Apparently, the matrix filters mix the components a little with each other. This technique allows you to increase the brightness of the screen with the same energy consumption for the backlight. Color temperature balance is not outstanding - grayscale has a color temperature above 6500 K, which also changes noticeably when moving from white to dark gray shades. However, the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (delta E) is relatively small.

The screen is not very bright, which can interfere with the use of the tablet during the day outdoors, but the tablet is perfect for watching movies, since the type of matrix used differs from any, even the most advanced IPS, by a slight diagonal black field highlighting and high contrast.

We also note that the screen sometimes reacts rather strangely to touch. In particular, it was very difficult to play Shadowgun: you press the shot, and for some reason the position of the camera changes ... or you make some touches, but the tablet does not respond ... Perhaps this is a software problem, but maybe the screen not very responsive.

Platform

The tablet runs on good old NVIDIA Tegra 2. In principle, we are well aware of the performance and functionality of this system on a chip. But, nevertheless, we will carry out a set of our standard tests.

In the Quadrant Standard, the tablet showed a normal "average" result - 1974 points. At the same time, we note that many Tegra 2 tablets are a little behind (for example, Sony Tablet S and Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet).

The result in SunSpider 0.9.1 is also without any special surprises: 2160 ms.

* Here and below for ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime, test results are shown with the latest firmware (the operating system has been updated to Android ICS). The results of this tablet in SunSpider 0.9.1 on original firmware with Android 3.2 were better.

In the CPU test, the Super Pi performed better than the ASUS Eee Pad Slider on the same SoC, but Tegra 3 is still far from the results.

The table below shows the results for all three plates, rounded to the nearest 1 second.

In the comprehensive AnTuTu Benchmark 2.7.3, the tablet scored 4927 points, which is close to the results of other Tegra 2 tablets.

The result in the multiplatform GeekBench, which measures CPU and RAM performance, is again predictable.

And finally, the results of the graphics subsystem performance in NenaMark2 (v2.2).

Of course, at this point in time, the Tegra 2's performance seems to be insufficient. In particular, this tablet, even with the use of hardware acceleration (in Dice Player), could not play a 720p MKV file without slowdowns. But, however, this is quite enough for the smooth operation of the Android 4.0 interface, as well as for the games of last year.

Operating system and applications

The tablet comes pre-installed with Android 4.0. However, Acer has made its own shell. More precisely, not even a full-fledged shell, but additional widgets.

First, it is a widget showing time, date and weather. Secondly, a special widget called up by a round yellow-green button in the center of the lower bar. The widget is a semi-transparent ball, on the right side of which thumbnails of sites added to favorites are displayed, and on the left side there is a volume control scale. In the center of the circle itself there is a button that calls a search on the tablet, and next to it there are icons for taking a screenshot, Gallery, Settings and Browser.

Apparently, this set of icons cannot be changed. As for this widget in general, I would not call it very useful, although some users may think otherwise.

Of the preinstalled programs, Astro is worth noting. It includes a file manager, a backup tool, and a task killer.

There is also a SoundHound service for streaming music, Internet radio AUPEO !, HW Solitaire SE (Solitaire solitaire), a LumiRead reader, McAfee VirusScan Mobile antivirus and Acer's proprietary media organization utility clear.fi. There is also an office suite Documents To Go, but, alas, only in a trial version (more precisely, a free version that only allows you to view, but not create and edit documents). And here they saved ...

The general impression of the software is as follows: they paid attention to this, tried to make it convenient for the user, but they didn’t give anything really valuable (like, for example, a fully functional office suite).

Autonomous work

Unfortunately, AnTuTu Tester was not installed on the tablet (for some reason it does not work on tablets with Android 4), so there will be no synthetic battery life tests. But there will be practical tests.

First, video playback. True, again, not quite according to our method, since the 720p video, which we have recently been using, was very slow on the tablet. Therefore, I had to put video 480p. With the screen brightness set to maximum (the only comfortable mode, in our opinion) and the sound volume sufficient for watching a movie with headphones, the tablet worked for about 7 hours. Wi-Fi was turned off. The result is not bad, but not outstanding either.

As for games, Angry Birds Space (the screen brightness is at maximum again, but Wi-Fi is on and the sound is off) will be able to play for about four and a half hours - five hours. Also not brilliant, although quite acceptable.

Camera

Unlike its predecessor - Iconia Tab A500 - the novelty has only one camera: the front one. There is no rear camera.

The front camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels and is designed for video communication.

conclusions

The Acer Iconia Tab A200 is a solid but slightly dated tablet. Even the fresh Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS does not save you from the feeling that this device should have been released last year. True, last year there wouldn't be much sense from the A200, because if it weren't for Android 4, this A200 could be called just a slightly tweaked version of the Iconia Tab A500. Although ... and with Android 4.0 it is still a slightly tuned A500, it does not surpass it in any way functionally, since the owners of the A500 have already got the opportunity to upgrade to Android 4.0.

In all the main parameters, we have a typical middling product: a system based on an NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip (no longer a leader, but not a complete outsider), an average battery life, an average screen (not IPS, but not TN, with good viewing angles, but with not the most saturated colors and not the highest resolution). I liked the design, which differs from the A500, although it is also not for everybody: the tablet is heavy (by today's standards) and not at all thin.

Perhaps, if a lesser-known company had released such a tablet, it would have been completely lost against the background of more ambitious competitors. But Acer has a name and a reputation, including in the fledgling tablet market - the company did a pretty good job last year. Therefore, the successor to the popular A500 will certainly not be overlooked. But in order for people not only to look at it, but also to buy it, the main thing is required: an adequate price. The manufacturer's stated price of 14,990 rubles for a 16GB model seems overpriced to us and does not favor good sales. Let me explain why. Acer Iconia Tab A500 had the same price at the start (later it even dropped a little). But at that time Tegra 2 and a 10-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x800 were top-level. It was also the first Android 3.0 tablet. Therefore, this price looked extremely attractive. Today Tegra 2 and a resolution of 1280x800 are not the top level. Therefore, asking for the same money for the middle peasant as for the flagship a year ago is at least strange. However, something tells us that soon this price will decrease significantly, since the Acer Iconia Tab A510 model will go on sale. Recall that it will have three significant advantages: firstly, Tegra 3 instead of Tegra 2, secondly, HDMI-out, and thirdly, a much more capacious battery (9800 mAh instead of 3260 mAh). At the same time, the recommended price for the version with 32 GB flash memory will be only 2,000 rubles higher than for the A200 with the same memory capacity. We will definitely test this model, and so far we cannot give it an estimate, but judging by the characteristics, with the difference in price equal to 2000 rubles, I would definitely recommend the A510. Most likely, Acer understands this, so we can most likely predict that immediately after the release of the A510, the price of the A200 will be reduced so that the difference with the A510 is at least 5-6 thousand. And then this model will really be attractive.

Tablets quickly fit into the life of a modern person. Their price is relatively low, therefore their popularity is increasing every day.

An all-round performer equipped with a Full HD screen and Dolby sound system, the Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20 10-inch Android Tablet is an entertainment-oriented machine. In our review of the Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20, we find out how well the tablet does the job.

Acer continues to develop its well-equipped lineup with the new Acer Iconia Tab 10. After the 8 "Iconia Tab 8, the 10" version of the tablet has arrived. Three versions of the tablet are planned for the Russian market: Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20 (NT.L5DEE.003) with 16 GB of memory and HD resolution, costing about 16,000 rubles, then Iconia Tab A3-A20 (NT.L5EEE.004) with 32 GB of memory for 18.500 rubles. In our review, we have Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20 (NT.L5FEE.003) the most powerful model in the series, which is also equipped with 32 GB of memory, but comes with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, costing about 20,000 rubles at the time of testing ...

All three Iconia Tab 10 series tablets are powered by a MediaTek MT8127 4-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. The tablet is supported by an ARM Mali-450 MP4 graphics chip and 2 GB (instead of one) of RAM. All Iconia Tab 10 tablets run the old Android 4.4, measure 8.9mm thick, weigh 510 grams and share interfaces. In addition, there are Micro HDMI and Micro USB ports, a Micro SDHC card slot, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Acer Iconia Tab 10 reminds iPad from Apple.

Like the smaller Iconia Tab 8, the Acer tablet not only looks like an iPad but also offers the same great build. Despite its slender 8.9mm waist, the Acer Iconia Tab 10's body is very rigid and can hardly deform even under pressure. The smooth aluminum back panel is attractive, which only enhances the overall quality impression. The Acer tablet is very comfortable to hold in the hand, thanks to the low weight of 510 grams. Comparison of the two devices shows that the tablet is thinner and lighter with similar build quality. And while the dimensions and weight are practically the same as the Iconia Tab 10, the same size 10-inch is not only much lighter (425 grams), but also significantly thinner (6.4 mm).

Hardware part

The 4-core chip based on ARM architecture MediaTEk MT8127 is responsible for the performance of the Iconia Tab 10. The chip from Acer is clocked at 1.5 GHz. ARM Mail-450 MP4 is used as a graphics unit. 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage round out the specs. The factory model of the tablet leaves the user with approximately 25.6 GB of free memory. The internal memory can be expandable using a 32GB microSD.

Software

Acer uses Android 4.4.2 for its Iconia Tab 10 and additionally equips its 10-inch tablets with an extensive collection of apps. Among them are several Google applications, including Maps, Drive, Google +, Chrome and Gmail, as well as the Astro file manager, barcode scanner, McAfee Mobile Security software suite, Skype, and a link to the Acer cloud service. In addition, users can select different applications and place them on a visual user interface.

Communication andGPS

The Acer Iconia Tab 10 connects to wireless networks using Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0. They performed at the expected speed in the tests and without interruptions or other interference. The integrated GPS module can use your existing Wi-Fi connection to determine your location, and it also provides very accurate localization within a few meters. We tested the GPS on a 10km cycling route with the Garmin Edge 500 navigation system for comparison, and the Acer tablet did a good job of being able to determine your current position, always accurately.

Cameras and multimedia

According to the specifications from Acer, the main camera of the Iconia Tab 10 takes photos up to 5 megapixels, and the maximum webcam resolution is 2 megapixels. However, only 4 megapixels (2560 x 1440 pixels) and 1 megapixels (1280 x 720 pixels) are available in the camera menu. It shouldn't be a tragedy if the cameras deliver decent image quality, given the huge choice of settings. Nearly all settings will make experienced photographers happy; from a variety of picture modes like HDR, extended exposure or panorama, to ISO and white balance settings, and a timer integrated into the camera app. But the photos taken with the tablet were disappointing. The main camera and the web camera can only offer blurry, noisy images even in ideal lighting conditions. Thus, you only have the option to record Full HD.

Accessories and guarantees

The Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20 comes with a Micro-USB cable, modular power supply, and manual. The tablet comes with a 12 month warranty. The manufacturer does not offer any accessories for the Iconia Tab 10.

Control and input devices

The Acer Iconia Tab A3-A20 offers excellent handling. The tablet's strengths begin with the interface, in which everything is logically located so that you can always access the controls you need. The tablet also takes advantage of Android 4.4.2 as well as a 10-pin LCD panel system. We did not notice any lag or unnecessary latency in apps or menus during our review. While the 10-inch screen is large enough, Acer does not offer an additional number line for the on-screen keyboard. The keyboard takes up half of the screen in landscape mode, but the individual keys are decently sized for fast typing.

Display

The Acer Iconia Tab 10 review tablet came with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, which gives us a reasonably sharp panel. However, LG's competing G Pad 10.1 V700 does not offer Full HD, limited to 1280 x 800 pixels. At the same time, the Sony Xperia Z2 provides the same resolution as the Iconia Tab 10, and, for example, already offers 2048 x 1526 pixels, as well as (2560 x 1600).

The LCD screen from the Acer Iconia Tab 10 achieves an average brightness of 389 cd / m2, with a fairly even spread across the entire screen (illumination: 86%). This way, you can use your tablet outdoors. Competitors offer similar figures, which range from 314 cd / m2 (Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5) to 461 cd / m2 (Sony Xperia Z2). The black level is 0.74 cd / m2 and the contrast ratio is 507: 1, which is also a decent value.

Performance

Like other Iconia Tab 10 tablets, the A3-A20FHD is a high-end model, so it uses a MediaTek MT8127 quad-core chip, but with a slightly higher clock speed of 1.5GHz. You also get an embedded ARM Mali-450 GPU. While this combination represents entry-level hardware, the CPU and GPU promise excellent performance, slightly above LG's Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 APQ8026 G Pad 10.1 V700. In synthetic benchmarks, however, the review Acer Iconia Tab A3-A20 cannot compete with comparable devices. The HTC (Google) Nexus 9, Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Sony's Xperia Z2 Tablet are much faster.

Games on Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20

Modern Android games aren't really a big deal for the Iconia Tab 10. The tablet can handle graphically complex titles like Shadowgun: Deadzone, Real Racing 3 or Asphalt 8 seamlessly thanks to the flawlessly functioning hardware. However, hardware demanding games like Anomaly 2 can stutter at times.

Regardless of which operating scenario the review tablet followed, the Acer Iconia Tab 10 did not go beyond temperatures. The maximum temperature of + 38.4 C was measured at maximum load, while at idle we got 37.8 degrees. Competing devices stay just as cold, with a maximum temperature of 40 degrees (LG G Pad 10.1).

SoundAcerIconiaTab 10

The stereo speakers along the long edge of the tablet deliver decent sound and don't suffer from clipping even at maximum volume. Typically in this category, the speakers lack bass. However, Acer considers the Iconia Tab 10 to be suitable for Dolby Audio, a setting that improves audibility and offers surprisingly rich stereo sound compared to conventional settings. The Iconia Tab 10 thus fully satisfies the application for an entertainment tablet.

Battery life

The non-removable lithium polymer battery of the Iconia Tab 10 has a capacity of 5700 mAh. The tablet consumes no more than 4.7 watts in idle mode. Under maximum load, the tablet showed a consumption of 6.9 watts. This is very good performance compared to competitors, and the maximum power consumption remains the lowest among the competitors, which allows us to hope for a long battery life. Only the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet can offer a similar 7.2W consumption, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 draws 10.4W under full load.

Despite its low power consumption, the Iconia Tab 10 offers disappointing battery life. The tablet only lasted 10:59 on standby, with all comparable devices offering the best times. However, in real-world review tests, with Wi-Fi and 150 cd / m 2 brightness, support for power saving, and a scenario in which websites open every 40 seconds, the tablet performed better. The Iconia Tab 10 offers a decent 7:40 minutes, while the Google Nexus 9 offers 9:34 and the G Pad 10.1 V700 12:51.

Summing up

While we didn't find any astounding entertainment value with the Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20, that doesn't diminish the positive experience. Equipped with a Full HD screen, Dolby Audio, and a 4-core MediaTek MT8127 with 32GB of storage, the Acer tablet does a good job of entertainment and is really good for multimedia. The tablet runs Google Android 4.4.2 and offers a stylish look thanks to its aluminum back panel. The low price tag of about $ 300 (19,000 rubles) also speaks in favor of the Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20, which we reviewed.

However, fans of high performance should avoid the Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A20. Despite tolerable performance in recent games, the combination of MediaTek and ARM Mali-450 GPUs will obviously see their limits in the near future. Weak cameras become a real disadvantage, despite the many settings they deliver only mediocre quality at best.

Verdict:

An attractive multimedia-oriented tablet. Passable performance in the budget model is offset by disgusting cameras, however, if these are not your priorities, the choice is obvious.

The 10.1-inch TFT-display of the tablet has a resolution of 1280x800 pixels (the same as in the Acer Iconia Tab A500 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets), and the grain of the picture is completely invisible. Viewing angles allow you to watch movies from your tablet in a small company. The case is worse with resistance to external light. In addition to the fact that the picture itself strongly fades, the plastic glossy protective screen strives to cast the sun glare directly into the eyes.

Automatic adjustment of the backlight brightness should have struggled with this, but in the Iconia Tab W500 it works completely ineffectively. The system, it seems, divides the data received from the light sensor into two categories: "it is light now" and "dark". In the first case, the display backlight shines brightly, in the second it is almost turned off. And the reaction time to changes in ambient light also leaves much to be desired. In short, it is better to independently choose the optimal backlight mode.

In work

The tablet uses a dual-core AMD C-50 chip with a frequency of 1 GHz (we have already tested this platform on the example of the Acer Aspire One 522 netbook). It is x86 compatible, and therefore allows you to work with desktop software. Its direct and only serious competitor is Intel Atom, all tablet-like products on which were distinguished by short operating time, large weight and dimensions, and were generally overly Chinese. So I took Iconia Tab W500 for the test with great distrust and guided, rather, by the need to give the reader information about a product that will be loudly advertised.

I can't say that I was delighted, but Iconia Tab W500 exceeded my expectations. It turned out to be much closer to tablets in the modern sense than the Atom zoo that we had to deal with in recent years. The W500 is not very heavy (just over 900 grams) and quite thin (16 mm), and also has a good bright display with a capacitive sensor. Such detail as active cooling greatly spoils the impression. It does not make sounds (at least, it did not have time to start emitting during testing), but sometimes the hand heats up noticeably. And besides, the realization does not go out of my head that with each calorie of heat, the energy stored in the battery flies out. And there should be no moving parts in modern tablets.

Fortunately, this is the only moveable component in the device. There is no Winchester in the W500, because it is half a tablet, and they are not treated very carefully. Instead of a disk drive, it uses an SSD. Small - 32 GB - but fast and absolutely indifferent to any shakes.

But no matter how hard the dual-core processor and solid-state drive try, they can't make the Iconia Tab W500 as responsive as even low-cost Android tablets are. The system often "thinks", freezes, and just slowly switches between tasks. For a computer, and even more so for a netbook, this behavior is familiar. Tablets, on the other hand, are usually much more responsive to user input.
