How to change the DNS server on Windows, MacOS, Android and iOS

Most often, the DNS server provided by the provider copes with its tasks. But sometimes problems arise:

  1. Some sites cease to boost.
  2. Access to content is blocked by geographic reasons.
  3. There is no reliable protection on the provider server.

And it is recommended to use third-party services. The most popular - Google Public DNS and OpenDns. Google Public DNS will provide stable loading of sites. OpenDns, in addition, can offer advanced functionality: a built-in filter, protection from phishing and the function of parental control. To do this, you need to register.

Change DNS server on windows

If you have Windows 10, right-click on the connection icon and select "Network Settings".

Scrolling the page down, open the "Network and Shared Access Control Center".

If you have Windows 7, 8, 8.1, also right-click on the network icon and immediately select "Network Management Center and Common Access". Subsequent actions are the same for all versions of Windows.

You need to get into the "Changing Adapter Settings" menu.

Right-click on the desired network connection and go to its properties. Select "IP version 4", click the "Properties" button.

Change the tick to "use the following DNS servers addresses" and write new parameters. For Google Public DNS, it will be 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. For OpenDns - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

Change DNS server on MacOS

Go to the system settings and click on the "Network" icon. Next, select the card of your network on the left - in most cases it will be Wi-Fi. Click on the "Advanced" button.

When you get into additional settings, open the DNS mini tab. There you can add a new server address to the list. If you see a record allocated by gray, just do not pay attention to it and click on the "+" button in the DNS servers column to add a new entry.

If you want to use Google Public DNS servers, you need to add two new entries to the DNS server list: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. If you like OpenDns more, use these two addresses: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
