Network bandwidth.

But the screen of our hero boasts excellent viewing angles, a good level of brightness and contrast - the IPS matrix shows itself from the best side. We fixed the maximum brightness level equal to 325 cd / m2 - an indicator for a solid "four". The screen resists fingerprints well, the oleophobic coating is of high quality.

Our only complaint is the uniformity of the display backlighting. In work, this quality is not felt, but if you turn on the tablet from scratch - and along the edges of the black bootloader splash, you can clearly see the "overexposed" areas of the matrix in all four corners.

ASUS is focusing on Tru2Life technology, which adapts the color and contrast of the display depending on whether a game, photo, video or text is displayed on the display. To be honest, we were unable to track the changes in the work of the matrix by eye - perhaps this technology is declared "for the sake of a word." And the display technology called ASUS TruVivid is most similar to the poetically presented OGS (when the touchscreen and display in a gadget are turned into one), which, however, is still a plus in budget tablets.

Sound

We would not expect musical revelations from an ingenious tablet, but ASUS vouches that within the price category ZenPad 8.0 will become one of the smartest models in terms of sound quality. Even specialists from DTS (the ones who developed Dolby Surround for cinemas) allegedly participated in the development of the audio system. However, in the case of ZenPad C 7.0, only a sticker next to the front camera reminded of audio engineers - the Atom x3-based tablet sounded absolutely unremarkable.

ZenPad 8.0 already produces better sound, but rather not due to software improvements, but simply due to a better audio path in the Qualcomm chip.

Introduction

Due to the fact that nowadays technology is getting more and more expensive, and manufacturers continue to raise prices for almost all of their products, I would like to consider two inexpensive devices from Asus. Fortunately for us, this brand still managed to keep the cost of its devices at the psychologically correct level: the younger model C7.0 - from 8,000 rubles, and 8.0 - from 12,000 rubles.

Both gadgets are equipped with sim cards and spoken speakers, so at any time a tablet or phablet can turn into a phone. Each model has a slot for a memory card.

Design, dimensions, controls

With your permission, to make it easier to understand where which device is, and not to get confused in names, I will call C7.0 a phablet, and 8.0 - a tablet. So, it seems, it becomes more logical.

Both gadgets are made in a common design concept: rectangular shape, rounded corners, the back cover is mostly made under the skin, some - glossy plastic. The official website says this:

“All models in the ZenPad series share a common Zen design philosophy, which aims to create beautiful, high-tech devices - a luxury available to everyone. The appearance of this tablet - bright, stylish, modern - will not leave indifferent any user! "

It is sad that by clicking "More about design" on the Russian-language Asus site, you are redirected to the English-language version. Such trifles knock me out of my rut: it's not difficult for me to read a description in a foreign language, but most of the buyers are ordinary users, some of them won't even understand what they have written with a translator. This attitude towards the consumer seems disrespectful to me.

The front side of the tablet is protected by the first generation Corning Gorilla Glass. For a phablet, everything is a little simpler - some kind of tempered glass. On the other hand, both displays remained as new without any problems after a month of active use. There are oleophobic coatings, and of sufficient quality.

Thin frames around the perimeter are made of plastic: in 7.0 - dark, in 8.0 - chrome. Interestingly, the official source claims that the phablet uses a metal frame with a special coating (Non-conductive vacuum metallization). I doubt it.

The back cover of both devices is made of plastic. The following colors are available for sale: for the phablet - red, gray, black and Aurora Metallic (pale gray-gold, judging by the photos), for the tablet a little less - black, white and again Aurora Metallic.

The main feature in the appearance of the devices is a textured panel, it resembles leather. It looks interesting, and it feels more pleasant in the hands. Sure, metal would be better, but 7.0 and 8.0 are inexpensive gadgets.

The phablet has an earpiece in the top center (also serves to output the speakerphone). It is loud, the timbre is pleasant. To talk comfortably, you have to tilt the device slightly with your edge, otherwise the sound is transmitted worse. To the right of the speaker is the front camera. There is no light sensor or proximity sensor in the Z170CG. The screen is not automatically locked during a call. Bottom - microUSB and microphone, top - 3.5 mm. On the right, behind a plastic flap, there are two microSIM slots and a slot for a memory card. Slightly higher is the power button, almost recessed into the body, and the volume rocker key. On the back there is a camera peephole. Theoretically, you can remove the cover, but I will not advise you: firstly, there is nothing interesting inside, and secondly, you can break something in the circuit, since the contacts are visible.

The tablet also has one speaker, covered with a metal mesh. The volume is high, the interlocutor is heard well. On the right is the camera. On the bottom there is a microphone, on the top - microUSB and 3.5 mm. There are no elements on the left. On the right is the power button and volume rocker. At the back is the camera peephole. Here, the cover is removed officially. Under it, in the area of the camera, there is a slot for a memory card and a slot for a microSIM card. In addition, there is a special connector that looks impressive. They say it serves to connect accessories.

Despite not the highest cost, the devices are assembled very well. The phablet easily fits into the pockets of a winter jacket, and the tablet will have to look elsewhere.

Displays

The Z380KL tablet uses a screen with a diagonal of 8 inches (in the Z170CG - 7 inches), and the resolution of the IPS OGS matrix is 1280x800 pixels (the C7.0 has less - 1024x600), 188 ppi (the C7.0 has 169 ppi). By eye the graininess of the picture is about the same. The touch layers work up to 10 simultaneous touches, the sensitivity is excellent.

There is an effective anti-reflective coating, I liked it better at 8.0.

Tablet screen frames top and bottom - 19 mm each, right and left - 8 mm each. The frames of the phablet top and bottom - 18 mm each, right and left - about 9 mm.

Screen matrix test Asus ZenPad C7.0

 • Maximum white brightness - 246 cd / m2
 • Contrast - 700: 1

The brightness graph is even, the gamma is about 2.1 (excellent), the RGB-levels graph indicates that there will be slightly less red than green and blue. Temperature - about 7000 K. Judging by the CIE diagram, the obtained data does not correspond to the sRGB triangle.

Screen matrix test Asus ZenPad 8.0

 • Maximum white brightness - 267 cd / m2
 • Contrast - 2670: 1

The ratio of screen size to front panel size was 76.5%.

The brightness graph is not entirely uniform (the picture is from 40% to 90% dark), the gamma is about 2.1 (excellent indicator), the RGB-levels graph indicates that there will be slightly more blue than green and red. Temperature - about 7100 K. Judging by the CIE diagram, the obtained data does not correspond to the sRGB triangle.

Viewing angles are equally wide, the quality of the matrix is 8.0 higher. Both matrices are prone to purple and yellow hues. The C7.0 matrix has a narrow range of colors, the 8.0 matrix also has deviations: there are no saturated red, blue, green and magenta colors, but a lot of light green and yellow.

Today we are getting acquainted with Asus Zenpad 8.0. So, this tablet from a renowned manufacturer has a 4-core processor and 2 GB of RAM, it is this configuration that allows the user to run a huge number of applications, including most games. The amount of built-in memory is 16 GB (it can be configured with 32 GB and 64 GB), this will be quite enough for the vast majority of buyers. As for the screen, it adequately reproduces the color gamut and also has a good margin of brightness. It is worth saying a few words about the sound, and so, it is quite good, both in headphones and from speakers, so that this device will suit music lovers as much as possible. Of the minuses, one can single out the fact that devices with screen flares may be on sale.

In general, Asus Zenpad 8.0 is a rather multifunctional device that will be of great interest from the user.

Rating 8/10

Price policy. The declared cost of $ 200 greatly increases interest in the device.

Screen. Excellent color rendering;

Powerful system. A powerful processor and 2GB of RAM are enough for almost everyone;

Screen glare marriage. Check the screen for highlights;

There are not so many tablets with an average price and good performance. If you don't want to buy products from overtly Chinese brands, take a look at the Asus Zenpad 8.0 - a good average in the world of tablets, with a Snapdragon chip and impressive battery life.

As for a tablet, the bezels are really thin. But why, at the same time, the second speaker was not placed in the lower part of the front panel, where the logo flaunts lonely and proudly? The place allows, and the sound quality would rise significantly.

From my own experience, I can say that the volume is sufficient for watching movies in a quiet room. With the air conditioner running or the kettle boiling, you already have to listen.

Headphone-out and microUSB port are placed on the top edge. The power button was placed clearly in the middle of the right edge, and a little higher - the volume rocker.

If you hold the tablet in a vertical orientation, there is a volume control button under your fingers, and when you unfold the tablet in a horizontal orientation to watch movies or photos, they are far enough away from the grip so that you will definitely not accidentally touch them.

Due to the smoothed corners of the body, Asus Zenpad 8.0 fits comfortably in the hands and does not cut into the palm. The surface of the back panel is made with a relief embossing "under the skin", so that the tablet does not slip out of your hands. You can forget about prints in general - the used material does not get dirty at all and practically does not scratch - a week of use did not leave any scratches or scuffs on the lid.

The removable panel does not occupy the entire part of the rear surface of the Asus Zenpad 8.0 - this is an original decision of Asus designers with a clutch stylization. Under the cover there is a slot for a memory card and a SIM card.

It is very easy to remove the panel due to the small recess in the corner, but it is difficult to put it back on, the latches close with obvious force and must close in a certain sequence. The main thing is not to panic and not break the cover and your nails, but simply methodically snap the cover around the perimeter.

Display

The display resolution of the Asus Zenpad 8.0 is not the largest - 1280 × 800 pixels. For an 8-inch display, this creates a picture with a pixel density of 189 ppi - a fairly average figure. The brightness of the display is suitable for indoor and outdoor on cloudy days - in bright sunshine, the surface glare, and the image dims even at maximum brightness. Readability is preserved, but we are not talking about long viewing of an image from a tablet under the bright sun.

The Asus Zenpad 8.0 is ideal for watching movies or photos - it has the correct color rendition and color gamut. Additionally, you can manually adjust the display settings - saturation, color temperature and base color.

Due to the IPS matrix installed in the tablet, even if you watch a movie by a large company and someone has to look from the side, the picture will be visible clearly and without distortion. Visual Master and Tru2Life image enhancement technologies are used, which make the picture juicy and contrast.

A good oleophobic coating at times improves the perception of the image on the Asus Zenpad 8.0 screen - due to the fact that the glass does not collect fingerprints, the picture always pleases with clarity.

Cameras

In our modification of the tablet, the main camera was with a 5 megapixel sensor. This is enough for photographs of landscapes on a sunny day or not particularly detailed "subject" - a cup of coffee in your favorite cafe or an important announcement.

The camera interface of Asus Zenpad 8.0 is simple and rich in settings and modes - panorama, HDR, smart removal and selfie mode for shooting self-portraits with the main camera. There is even a mode for night shooting, although even with it the photos are obtained of dubious quality simply because their resolution is only 1 megapixel.

The front camera here is 2 megapixels and you can count on it only in good light - in the twilight of a cafe, the pictures are far from ideal.

Performance

The Asus Zenpad 8.0 tablet used Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, which provides good performance and multitasking. Of course, we are not talking about the maximum graphics settings in 3D games, but on medium tablets it draws almost all the toys.

The built-in memory in Asus Zenpad 8.0 is 16 GB, but a little more than 11 GB will be available to you, and this is enough to download three movies in good quality. There will also be room for apps and photos.

Software

The tablet has a custom Zen UI skin on top of the Android 5.0 operating system. A distinctive feature of this shell is good customization - the user is given many parameters of the device to configure. At the same time, the system is so well optimized that during the entire time of using the tablet, I did not have a single shell glitch.

I liked that the settings menu items do not go with the list canvas, but are scattered in blocks of two columns. This way you have to flip through the menu much less, and it is easier to find the desired item with one quick glance at the screen.

With ZenMotion, you can quickly launch apps on your tablet from a locked state. To do this, it is enough to draw a certain letter on the off screen - and the desired application will start. There are 6 letter options and a wide selection of applications.

Battery

Due to the fact that the display resolution was not overestimated, Asus Zenpad 8.0 easily withstands long loads, sparingly consuming a 4000 mAh battery. It lasts for about 6 hours of video playback - that is, for about three films.

In synthetic tests, autonomy is even better - the tablet withstood 9 and a half hours in the PC Mark autonomy test, while other smartphones and tablets generally stop at 5-6 hours.

But if this is not enough for you, you can connect the Power Case, which comes with the tablet. Unlike an external power bank, it is not connected by wires, but instead of the back cover. The only inconvenience at the same time - the tablet significantly adds to the weight and thickness.
