Connection to the telephone network. Connecting a telephone socket rj11, diagram

These products are low-current contacts housed in plastic cases of various shapes, designs and sizes. The connection can be made by fastening the contacts with screws or using a specially designed connector. In older products, special plugs are used.

DIY connection

Before talking about the connection, you need to bring a telephone cable to the place intended for installing the socket.

In new residential premises, it is laid during construction work using hidden wiring. Only a pair of contacts is brought out, but an outlet can also be installed.

In used rooms, the cable is often laid over skirting boards, but this is impractical as it can be damaged during cleaning. It is common to lay the telephone cable under the skirting boards, for this there is no need to dismantle them, it is enough to move it a little and lay the cable in the gap formed. Then put the plinth back in place.

The cable can be brought to the installation site directly along the wall, or you can pierce the channel and lay it as a hidden wiring.

Materials and tools

The main accessories that may be needed when laying telephone wiring:

  • side cutters - for cutting the cable;
  • knife - for stripping the ends of the wires;
  • screwdriver - fastening the ends in the socket;
  • screws - fixing the base of the device to the wall;
  • drill - drilling holes for fixing the outdoor unit;
  • tungsten carbide drill - typically 4.2 mm in diameter;
  • plastic inserts into the holes;
  • "Grinder" with a disc for concrete - to perform hidden wiring;
  • perforator with a core drill, drill size in accordance with the size of the box;
  • - to clarify the polarity of the contacts in the connector when connecting;
  • protective latex gloves - if during the work there is an accidental call to the phone, the potential difference can reach 120V, which is already unsafe with direct contact.

Work order

  1. If you decide to install hidden wiring, you must first make a channel for laying the telephone cable. Using a grinder, grind the channel along the entire length and lay the wire in it, seal the channel with cement mortar.
  2. When making open wiring, you will need special plastic brackets for attaching the cable to the wall and an electric drill with a drill. Insert plastic inserts into the holes with a depth of about 20 mm, and fix the wire under the bracket with a nail or screw. All fasteners are sold in a set, there are no problems with the compatibility of components.
  3. Installation under the skirting board will require the use of a chisel, with which the skirting board is removed from the wall for laying the wire. After that, the plinth is knocked into place with regular nails.
  4. When installing the outdoor box, it must first be connected to the cable. Then fix it on the wall. Here options are possible, determined by the design of the boxes themselves. If its base has holes for fastening, you need to attach it to the installation site and mark the location of the holes on the wall. Using a drill, drill the holes, install the inserts and secure the base of the box with the screws from the kit. Then install the cover, which has special latches for this. The base without mounting holes can be wall-mounted using double-sided tape. The fastening is quite reliable, but when disconnecting the connector, it is advisable to hold the case.
  5. When installing the inner box, you need to use a hammer drill and a core drill on the diameter of the box. After making a blind hole in the wall, install a box in it, connect it to the cable and fix it in the hole. Replace the cover.
  6. When connecting the contacts, use a tester to check the correspondence of the poles (location "+" and "-").

All work is simple and accessible to a non-professional performer.

Types of connectors. Features of the application of RJ11, RJ12 and other types

Telephone connectors are used not only for connecting devices to a communication line. They are used to connect with other devices and communication devices.

Sockets are made with one, two or more connectors and can provide simultaneous connection of several subscribers.

In a wide variety of connectors, it is necessary to consider some of their varieties:

  • RJ11 - two-wire version, used to connect to line-type networks.
  • RJ14 - equipped with four conductors and four pins, compatible with most modern phone models. To connect one subscriber, you need to use the 2nd and 3rd contacts. If you need to connect several additional lines, you need to use the 1st and 4th pins. If an overhead telephone socket is used, the line is connected with red and green wires.
  • RJ25 - has three pairs of contacts, requires the participation of a qualified telephone technician to connect.
  • RTShK-4 is a legacy of the Soviet period, but it is being produced and used to the present. Includes a special key. Connection is made in one-piece way with a tap-off box. If there are several points of this type in the room, they are closed using a capacitor.

Let's talk in more detail about devices for connecting RJ11 and RJ12:

  • The first of these types of products is used for individual connections in conventional telephone networks.
  • The second is used for networks with heavy loads - in office or public places.

These types of connecting devices have two or four contacts, made like a metal plug, connect to the contacts that are located in the center. For installation, a special tool is desirable - a cross-cutting knife, which allows you to remove the braid without damaging the wire and crimp the plug when installed on the wire.

To connect you need:

  • remove the braid from the wire to a length of 4 - 5 centimeters;
  • straighten each core of the cable, the number of which ranges from 4 to 6;
  • lay all the wiring in the socket grooves;
  • check for contact between the connector and the telephone cable.

When starting the connection, you need to take care of safety measures when performing work. Be sure to wear rubber gloves that can protect you from electric shock.

General Outlet Standards indicate that a red braid usually indicates a positive conductor, while green indicates a negative rating. The tester will help to verify this.

The connection methods for all sockets are identical, but they differ in the methods of installation depending on the version.

In practice, the installation of popular French-made sockets of the Legrnd type is also carried out. The line of products of this type is very diverse, sockets are available with any type of installation: external, internal and any others. The color coding follows European standards and is identical in similar products from other manufacturers.

  1. When carrying out work on laying a telephone cable, you need to remember the safety rules:
    • When chamfering a cable groove in brick or concrete, be sure to use safety goggles or face protection to protect your eyes and face.
    • Take the same safety precautions when drilling holes for securing the cable or socket base.
    • When cutting material from the channeled channels, from the blind hole for the socket box, install a protective disc on the chisel to prevent damage to your hands.
    • Work with wiring must be done with protective gloves.
  2. If a polarity tester is not available, use a cut potato. Stick the ends of the wires into the pulp, the surface of the pulp around the positive wire will soon begin to darken.
  3. Modern sockets are made in a safe version. However, they must be installed out of the reach of children.
  4. When stripping the ends of the cable for connection, it is necessary to avoid damage to the insulation of the internal wires and, moreover, the conductors themselves. This leads to a deterioration in the quality of communication and the possibility of a line break.
  5. If an old Soviet two-core wire is used in the form of a plastic ribbon with wires along the edges, it is unacceptable to fasten it by driving nails between the wires. This often leads to line breaks during installation. When the nail comes into contact with the wire, a grounding pair may form, impairing the quality of the connection.

Carrying out all the work thoughtfully and accurately, you can successfully cope with the simple task of wiring and installing sockets. Take it without a doubt and you will be a success!

The telephone socket is inherently a low-current type of socket-outlet devices, the main functions of which are:

  1. Connecting wired and wireless devices to the appropriate network and the provision of telephone communications.
  2. Implementation connections of modems and faxes.
  3. Connection and organization of the mini-automatic telephone exchange.

It is much easier to connect a telephone socket in practice than an electrical version. However, this process still requires caution and accuracy, since for its implementation it is necessary to perform a number of electrical work associated with high voltage.

Installation and connection of such devices is ideal for people with little experience in this field, or beginners who are just gaining relevant experience.

Previously, this process raised fewer questions, since there was a single standard governing the installation of such devices. Today, there are several European standards called Registered Jack (RJ). There are several different ways connecting telephone sockets, independently this process can be carried out with RJ-14 and RJ-25 devices.

Features and connection diagram

RJ-11 socket

Telephone sockets have their own individual connection features, if we talk about the modern and most common RJ-11 and RJ-12 standards, they have the following connection nuances:

  1. Into the design of the device 2-4 contacts can enter, which are small metal plugs. Between these elements, the deepening of the cores of the supply wire is required.
  2. Connecting the phones themselves occurs exclusively through 2 central contacts.
  3. For mounting accessories with the specified standard, professional craftsmen use a special type of working tool called a crossover knife. However, if its frequent operation is not planned in the future, then you can limit yourself to the most ordinary knife with a sharpened blade. Such a tool is used to deepen the cores; when cutting the insulating layer, contact will be ensured.
  4. Before straightening lived it is necessary to remove the outer layers from the wire, 4 cm is enough to carry out such a stripping.
  5. For internal lining it is recommended to use the KSPV cable, which has a single-wire core in its construction, which is most often made of copper. The outer casing is usually made of white plastic compounds. The TRP cable is most often used as a distributor.

Required tools and materials

Different tools and materials may be required depending on the type of telephone jack and the standard used.

  1. Screwdriver, which, in terms of the type of working surface and dimensions, corresponds to the screws used to fasten the device. The screwdriver handle must be insulated to avoid.
  2. Cable, if it is not the replacement of the old device, but the laying of a completely new one.
  3. Perforator, as well as the cable, will be needed if a new outlet is being installed.
  4. The outlet itself.
  5. A knife with a sharp blade.
  6. Self-tapping screws.
  7. Nippers.
  8. Insulating tape.
  9. Universal or a tester.
  10. Protective gloves.
  11. Single-sided and double-sided adhesive tape.
  12. Graphite pencil and a brightly colored marker, which will be required for marking.

Step-by-step instruction

Initially, a simple way of connecting a universal telephone socket will be discussed. Today, the most common devices are those that comply with the European RJ-11 and RJ-12 standards.

In order to connect them, you must adhere to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. Originally, you will need to disconnect the power supply and wear protective gloves, since the voltage indicator in the telephone network is 60V, and in working condition it can reach 110-120V.
  2. Using side cutters remove the insulating layer from the conductors, while it is important not to touch the cores themselves. The stripped cable should be about 4 cm long.
  3. Using a tester determine the polarity of the contacts.
  4. Connect the conductors to the contacts. In a telephone jack, the red wire is negative and the green wire is positive. It is not necessary to follow the connection rules, taking into account the polarity, but there is a certain risk that in the future the telephone set will give its own from time to time during operation.
  5. Connect the cable cores, then tighten and ensure reliable fixation using special screws for pressing.
  6. Some models have in their design 2-4 contacts, which have a fork shape, these elements are made of steel. In such a situation, 2 central contacts are used.
  7. Carry out commit and fastening the telephone socket to the wall surface. This can be done with double-sided tape, but most effective way is the use of self-tapping screws.
  8. Snap the cover of this device.

There are varieties of hidden telephone sockets. The connection process for them does not fundamentally differ from the connection of classic versions of devices.

There are significant differences only in the process of their installation and are as follows:

  1. Apply markings on the wall surface the future location of the telephone socket.
  2. Preliminary, you will need to make a hole in the surface with a punch, it will be needed for the subsequent installation of the socket. Fixation and fastening of this element is achieved through the use of self-tapping screws.
  3. Fixing the device inside the back box can be done using special-purpose spacer screws.
  4. Put on the outer protective casing, after which the voltage can be returned to the network and the installed device can be tested.

At the same time, you need to know that absolutely any kind of telephone sockets may not be the usual single, but double devices. Such devices are usually installed in offices or other premises where there are several telephones with different numbers, but sometimes it may be necessary to install them at home.

The installation or connection process does not fundamentally differ from the work carried out with a single structure. The only change is the increase in the number of conductors that need to be connected.

Types of telephone sockets

When considering different types of such devices, one of the main classifications is their division according to the method of installation:

  1. Devices for external installation.
  2. Devices with internal wiring.

A secondary classification applicable to both types is the division of these devices according to the number of connectors available:

  1. Single-socket models designed to connect 1 device, are the most demanded option for installation in private houses or residential apartments.
  2. Multi-connector models allow connecting several different devices at once, most often found in offices and office premises.

Also, on the modern market there are sockets with different connectors.

This parameter is determined by the type of standard used:

  1. RJ-11 is one of the most common options, it implies the presence of 2 conductors in the structure. Such devices are most often found and are recommended for installation if there is a line-type telephone trunk to which the device is connected.
  2. RJ-12 less common, since they are rarely used for domestic purposes. The main purpose is to connect to office mini-automatic telephone exchanges or a number of types of network cards.
  3. RJ-14 has 4 conductors and the same number of contacts in its design. It is a universal connector designed and suitable for most modern models of telephone equipment. To connect and ensure the operation of one line, contacts 2 and 3 are used, if for some reason several lines are required, then the connection is made through contacts 1 and 4. In plug-on sockets, you must use a green and red conductor, which are usually located in the center of the fixture.
  4. RJ-25 includes in its design 3 pairs of working contacts at once. Devices of this type are extremely complex and unsuitable for self-assembly. To carry out this process will require the involvement of a qualified specialist who understands electrical and telephony issues.
  5. RJ-9 is a special kind of connectors, the main task of which is to connect the handset directly to the device.
  6. RTShK 4 is already a technically obsolete type of sockets, which were widespread in the USSR in the past, 4 wide contacts and a key are included in the design. Designed for a specific connection option in an all-in-one way; for its implementation, the presence of a branch-type box is required. The presence of several telephone sockets within one room contributes to the creation of a special electrical circuit; an additional capacitor is required to close it.

Regardless of the type of telephone socket, you will need to install a special type of power cable inside this device. Different versions have no structural differences, all plugs have similar dimensions and connectors, but they may differ in the number of contacts available.

telephone wire marking

All the main issues related to the installation and connection of telephone sockets were considered, summing up, you can give a number of the following useful recommendations:

  1. Most popular today, it is a built-in type of device, since it harmoniously fits into any room and is an extremely invisible element. However, it must be borne in mind that its installation will take longer and the wall decoration will suffer.
  2. The best thing purchase devices that were produced by well-known and proven manufacturers who have managed to positively recommend themselves in this area. Today, such companies are Legrand and Vico.
  3. On some models the numbering of contacts, usually applied to the body of the device, may be missing. In this case, knowledge of the color coding rules can help: green, orange or blue in combination with white are used to indicate positive contacts; the same colors, only monotonous and without adding white, indicate negative contact.
  4. If you are installing a telephone socket old model, it does not hurt to also know the color coding rules that were used before: orange, black or green conductor is positive; red, yellow or blue conductor must be negative.

To connect a telephone socket, you need the following:

And, of course, you need the outlet itself.

Types of sockets

The way of its installation depends on what type of outlet will be chosen.

Sockets are divided into the following types:

    Wall-mounted Euro sockets

    External sockets

    Soviet-style sockets

The installation of Soviet-style sockets - RTShK-4 was previously carried out together with a capacitor, which checked the line and at the time of the call notified about its busyness. Now the sockets are installed without a capacitor, which greatly simplifies this process.

In order to more clearly illuminate the process of connecting a telephone socket, consider an example of installing an external universal socket - RJ-11.

How to connect an external socket

Always wear protective gloves before proceeding with the installation.

Important! During a call, the voltage in telephone line increases by 100-120 Volts, so working with an outlet without gloves poses a serious threat to life and health.

Now you need to use side cutters or a special tool for working with the cable to strip the telephone line wire, stripping it from insulation by 4 cm. The veins must be even, so they will need to be straightened.

Important! The insulation must be removed very carefully, being careful not to make cuts on the copper conductors, otherwise they can easily break.

When the wire is prepared for the upcoming work, you can start connecting. To do this, you need to open the socket housing and familiarize yourself with its contents.

Inside the socket, you can see the following:

To connect a telephone for home use, only two terminals and two wires are enough. Therefore, at first glance, the contents of the box may seem strange, because there are as many as 4 terminals. But the remaining 2 are used to connect another telephone line.

In our case, you need 2 terminals (in the figure they are circled in red), to which the telephone line will be connected. Next, connect the wire to the red ("minus") and green ("plus") wires, screwing the wires to the metal screws.

In order to observe the correct connection, you need to check the polarity of the line using a multimeter or tester.

Advice! If you suddenly don't have a tester at hand, you can use regular potatoes. To do this, you need to cut the potato in half and insert the ends of the cable into it: around the "plus" the color will change.

Not all telephones require strict observance of polarity, in most cases it is not important.

After all operations are completed, the lid comes back and snaps into place. Then the box is attached to the wall using self-tapping screws or a double-sided adhesive pad.

After connecting, be sure to check if there is a connection.

Installation of a hidden socket

Another common type of telephone sockets is hidden-type sockets.

They look like this:

They are very comfortable as they do not protrude from the wall and look neat. And although the process of connecting them is no different from connecting external sockets, you still have to tinker, since you will need to mount the holes in the wall.

To connect a hidden socket, in addition to all the tools already listed (screwdriver, multimeter, side cutters, cable), you will also need a socket, a puncher and fasteners.

Before proceeding with the device of the hole for laying the cable, you need to prepare the perforator by selecting the appropriate nozzle for it with a diameter equal to the diameter of the box itself. Next, you need to drill a round hole and install the appropriate socket in it.

In order to bring the cable to the socket, you need to hollow out a recess in the wall, which, after installing the wire in it, is plastered. The finished groove should be filled with cable so that about 10 cm of wire remains in the under-roof.

This is followed by the same process of connecting the cable cores to the terminals as in the case of an external telephone socket.

After that, the box is installed in a socket box and securely fastened to the wall using spacer screws. A decorative overlay is fixed on top - the installation process is over.

It's good to feel like a master of your home and a jack of all trades. But if the process of connecting a telephone socket with your own hands seemed too complicated for you, then do not run to the masters.

A video describing the process of installing a telephone and electrical outlet will clarify all the incomprehensible moments of the installation:

There are several different ways to connect telephone sockets, this process can be done independently with RJ-14 and RJ-25 devices.

Cell phones are now widespread. However, tens of millions of wired telephones and radiotelephones are still in operation, and many people prefer them to cellular ones.

Long distance calls and international communication from a landline home telephone set are much cheaper, you do not need to constantly monitor the state of charge of the batteries and periodically change them.

Connecting one or several parallel stationary telephones and radiotelephones to a communication line with your own hands is the simplest task, within the power of almost any person, who does not even know the intricacies of a coherent business.

What is the voltage in the telephone line

The telephone line is under 40-60 V DC voltage if the telephone is not connected or is connected, but the handset is on the telephone set. During a call, the voltage in the communication line becomes variable with an amplitude of up to 120 V. When you pick up the handset, the voltage drops to 6-12 V. This voltage is not life-threatening, but it can cause unpleasant sensations. It is impossible to disable the communication line or damage the telephone set when connected. The telephone line may be disconnected for several minutes if the handset is lifted for a long time without dialing a number or if the communication line conductors are short-circuited. The telephone line is automatically disconnected by an automatic telephone exchange (PBX) to save energy. So you can safely start connecting your phone to the communication line on your own.

Before connecting a landline telephone or radiotelephone to a communication line, it is advisable, but not necessary, to check the availability of the communication line. Line voltage can be rated to measure DC voltage. If the phone is not connected to the line or is connected, and the receiver is on the phone, the device should show a voltage of 40-60 V. If there is no voltmeter, you can check with a potato, and this is not a joke, but real way checks. It is enough to stick the noodle wires stripped from the insulation into the cut of the potato. No batteries are needed as the wires are already energized.

Wired landline telephone connection diagram to PBX

A hundred-pair telephone cable is stretched from an automatic telephone exchange (ATS) to each house, which branches out with ten pair cables along the entrances of the house. The ends of ten paired cables are soldered in ten paired skirtings in the entrances of the house. Skirtings are installed in boxes or fixed to walls. The photo shows a plinth with an open lid.

Previously, skirting boards were made of duralumin, now they are made of plastic. In modern skirting boards, line wires of communication lines are connected by pressing into combs with a special tool. From one of the pairs of skirting boards to your apartment, a communication line is stretched with a telephone wire TRP, which signalmen call noodles. At the end of this wire, an RTShK-4 (old-style) or modern RJ-11 socket is installed in the apartment, and a wired telephone is connected to it with a plug.

As you can see, the wired landline telephone connection scheme is simple: an individual pair of wires is stretched from the PBX to your apartment, through which communication is carried out. As you can see from the diagram, the plug and socket are needed solely for ease of use - and do not take part in the operation of the phone. You can connect the telephone wires from the baseboard to the telephone cord and the telephone will work successfully.

How to connect the phone to the communication line

The connection of telephones, including radiotelephones, to the line is carried out by means of a detachable connection - plug and socket. Currently, telephone connectors of two standards are used in operation. Morally outdated Soviet ones, meeting the requirements of GOST 8810-81 (CT SEV 5396-85), which was in effect until 01.01.92 (RTShK-4), and modern telephone plugs and RJ-11 sockets, corresponding to the international standard IEC 60669-1 and 60884- 1 (623K). Universal telephone plugs and sockets are also used, which make it possible to connect plugs and sockets produced according to the new and old standards among themselves.

The question seems irrelevant, but there are still many phones in operation that have been connected for a long time, and this information may be in demand if you repair the connector yourself or transfer the phone.

Of course, the Soviet telephone connector is bulky, does not correspond to modern aesthetic views, but it was reliable and successfully performed for a long time, and continues to perform the functions assigned to it.

The telephone socket has four contacts for connecting a plug and two for switching a capacitor. The positioning of the plug during insertion is ensured by the holes in the socket cover. The line is screwed to the two right-hand pins. To control the integrity of the line, a capacitor was also installed in the outlet, which was connected to the upper right contact and the lower left one. When the plug was inserted into the outlet, it broke the circuit with a wedge-shaped pin, and the capacitor turned off. When it was necessary to check the line, it was enough to remove the outlet, and the communications workers from the PBX could, by steam AC voltage, check the status of the line, and thus determine what exactly is the reason for the lack of communication, the line or the telephone. When two phones are connected in parallel and the plug of one of them is removed, the line is heavily soiled, since the alternating voltage passes well through the capacitor. If you accidentally forget such an outlet connected to the telephone line, be sure to disconnect it from the line or remove the capacitor. It is advisable to remove it from all connected telephone sockets, since the capacitor does not take part in modern telephone lines - and therefore is not needed.

The telephone plug is a plastic box consisting of two halves, one of which is inserted into four flat contacts, to which the cord coming from the telephone is connected with screws. The photo clearly shows which contacts to connect it to. For the phone to work, it does not matter to which contacts the wires are connected, the main thing is that the contacts of the telephone socket, to which the wires of the line come, are connected to the contacts of the plug, to which the wires from the phone come. The wedge-shaped pin is used to disconnect the test capacitor from the communication line.

With the advent of foreign-made telephones in everyday life, in which the cord ended with an RJ-11 6P4C plug, and the sockets were all installed RTShK-4, adapters (adapters) immediately appeared on sale, allowing any owner of the novelty to connect the phone to the line without assistance.

In the adapter, the two upper flat contacts were connected to 3 and 4 contacts of RJ-11 (standard crimping scheme), in the photo on the left, and the lower flat contacts were connected to contacts 2 and 5 of RJ-11, in the photo at the bottom of the adapter.

Connecting a telephone to a universal socket RTShK-4 623K RJ-11

Another creation of the transition period is a universal socket, a symbiosis of RTShK-4 and RJ-11 sockets. I do not know why they were produced, but it can be assumed that they replaced the worn-out RTShK-4, thereby providing the ability to connect phones with plugs of any standards.

Contacts 3 and 4 of both RJ-11 telephone sockets are connected in parallel with the right RTShK-4 (standard connection), and contacts 2 and 5 of the telephone socket are connected in parallel with the left RTShK-4.

Connecting a telephone to a 623K RJ-11 6P4C socket

Modern sockets for connecting telephones under the RJ-11 4P4C plug are small-sized. They are available in different body colors, they are wall-mounted, for internal wiring and combined (for simultaneous connection of telephones to the communication line and computers to local networks and the Internet with RJ-45 plugs).

In the presented socket, the line wires of the telephone line must be connected to green and red wires that are connected to pins 2 and 3 of the RJ-11 4P4C socket. The polarity of the telephone connection does not matter.

Connecting a phone by squeezing noodles into RJ-11

You can do without a standard socket altogether by connecting the telephone set directly to the telephone wire, the so-called noodles. To do this, you need to squeeze the end of the noodles that fit the phone into an RJ-11 socket.

The diameter of the insulation of the conductors of the noodles is larger than necessary, and it will not work to insert them into the RJ-11 connector. To do this, you need to completely remove the insulation. Without insulation, it will be impossible to crimp the wires into RJ-11, and therefore they must first be put on the tubes removed from the twisted pair wires or other wires of suitable size.

Now all that remains is to insert the noodle wires into pins 2 and 3 of the RJ-11 connector and crimp using special pliers (crimper) or manually using the technology described in the article "How to crimp a twisted pair cable without clamps". The polarity of the wires does not matter.

To connect the phone, you will need to remove the standard connection wire from it and insert the RJ-11 connector crimped on the noodles into the connector on the body.

A landline telephone with a handset is connected to the line with a telephone line cord with RJ-11 4P4C plugs at the ends. Of these, as a rule, only two middle contacts are involved to connect the phone. The rest of the contacts are often absent, since they are designed to connect two stationary telephones in parallel (telephones must support the ability to work in this mode) according to the director-secretary system. This is when, when you pick up one of the phones, the second is automatically turned off.

According to the standard for connecting the phone, a certain color-coded wire must be suitable for each contact number. This is for ease of repair and maintenance. It doesn't matter what color the wire is connected to. The main thing is that the wires coming from the PBX are connected to the two middle pins 2 and 3 of the telephone plug. The current standard provides the following color scheme for crimping a line wire to an RJ-11 plug.

Previously, another standard was in force, according to which the crimp of the RJ-11 plug had to be performed according to the color scheme below.

The polarity of the connection for a non-paired landline telephone does not matter. There is a special tool for crimping the wires in the RJ-11 plug, but you can do with one screwdriver.

When buying an RJ-11 plug to connect a line, you should pay attention to the fact that its width should be 9.5 mm. The fact is that the RJ-11 plug for the cord connecting the telephone set to the handset has exactly the same appearance, but its width is 7.5 mm and you can buy the wrong plug.

Sometimes, for convenience, it is required to connect one or more other devices in parallel to the telephone set already connected to the communication line, including radiotelephones. This connection is made by simply connecting the sockets in parallel, just like connecting electrical outlets to the wiring. The polarity of the wires does not matter. Modern telephones load the telephone line very insignificantly and at least 10 telephones can be connected in parallel. The disadvantages of such a connection include the lack of confidentiality during a conversation. That is, during your conversation, the person who picks up the receiver on any parallel connected phone can hear your conversation. There are blocker schemes that allow, when you pick up the handset on one of the phones, to block all other phones.

After connecting several telephones in parallel, a situation may arise when a ringing signal comes in, only one telephone rings, and all the others only emit a short, low sound. The reason for this is the presence of the caller ID (automatic number identification) system in the calling phone, configured to identify phone number caller before picking up the handset. Thus, the caller ID immediately automatically picks up the phone and already generates a ringing signal. For this reason, all other phones connected in parallel do not ring. Usually, in modern telephones, you can turn on the caller ID function to determine the number after you pick up the handset. Then, when a ringing signal arrives, all phones will ring. Caller ID, included in the dialing mode before picking up the receiver, is also bad for those who call you long distance. This is due to the fact that even if the call comes in while you are absent, the connection time counting and charging starts without lifting the handset. The pluses of the caller ID system include the fact that if telephones without caller ID are installed in places of rest, and with caller ID - in another room, then you will not be disturbed by a night call.

There are also ready-made solutions in the form of a radiotelephone with several handsets, allowing not only to block, but also to switch the caller from the picked up handset to any other. However, such phones are not affordable for everyone and have a significant drawback. During a power outage, they do not work; and in the tubes they have accumulators that serve for several years, then the battery needs to be replaced, and this is comparable in cost to the cost of an ordinary one push-button telephone... Therefore, to ensure uninterrupted communication, you still need to keep an ordinary phone in reserve.

Connecting the telephone line to the line by twisting the wires

In life, there are situations when you need to connect the phone to the line, but there is no outlet. In this case, it is possible to perform a twisted wire connection without degrading the communication quality. Such a connection is even more reliable than a detachable one. The only drawback is that you have to cut the wire if you need to connect another. And even then, in modern telephones, the cords with telephone sets are joined with RJ11 plugs and, in the case of, for example, repairing a telephone, it is always easy to disconnect it from the line. I have one phone connected in this way, while the entire cord is hidden behind the door trim, only a 15 cm long piece comes out with an RJ11 plug at the end, which is immediately inserted into the phone socket.

The telephone cord is very flexible, it is a special wire with cores made using a special technology. A very thin copper ribbon is wound around a cotton thread. Such a conductor is called tinsel. Tinsel wires are widely used in the manufacture of headphones, connecting handsets to bases, that is, in cases where the wires are constantly bent during operation.

There are several tinsel conductors in each vein, and they are also entwined with each other. It is very difficult to solder tinsel, and the mechanical strength of such soldering is low. To obtain a reliable and mechanically strong twist connection, it must be performed according to the following technology.

First, the tinsel of the telephone cord is freed from the insulation for a length of 10-15 mm and the conductors of the line wire for a length of 20-25 mm with a shift with a knife. You do not need to remove the tinsel thread. Then both wires are folded together, the tinsel is bent towards the conductor, and the core of the linear wire is wound onto the tinsel pressed against the insulation. It is enough to make three to five turns.

Twisting with the second conductor of the cord is performed in the same way. As you can see, this is a neat connection. Cover the resulting joint with insulating tape. If you have a PVC tube of a suitable diameter, you can put a piece of it in place of twisting for insulation. The connection can also be made straight if the line wire is bent 180 ° before insulating. In this case, the mechanical strength will increase significantly.

Telephone line repair

If the landline phone stops working, then they usually call the signalman and wait for his arrival, often at an inconvenient time for themselves. However, if you do not want to wait and have a desire, then you can restore the connection with your own hands.

There can be two reasons for the termination of the telephone: either the telephone set has broken down, or the telephone line. If you have a spare telephone set, plug it in instead of the idle one; if the connection appeared, then the phone was to blame for the breakdown, and if the connection did not appear, the line was to blame.

You can check if the line is working properly by measuring the voltage at the telephone socket. If there is no device, you need to check the reliability of the connection of the line communication wire to the contacts of the socket. If the connection in the socket is reliable, then the wire can be traced to which contacts of the circuit board your line is connected, and check the reliability of the connection to the contacts in the circuit board. If there is no way to trace, then you can check the reliability of the connection to the plinth of all suitable lines, because one of them is yours. If there is voltage at the contacts of the terminal block, and your pair is connected securely, then the wire going to the point where the phone is installed is open. If there is no voltage, then you need to disconnect one of the conductors going to the apartment, and re-measure after 5-10 minutes. If voltage appears, it means that a short circuit... To check this fact, it is enough to reconnect the line wire to the contacts of the circuit board and measure the voltage, it should disappear again.

Handset device and telephone handset cord repair

Landline telephone handset device

The appearance of the handset is well known to everyone. It consists of two plastic detachable parts: a base, in which the microphone and a telephone capsule are fixed, and a cover, which is usually screwed to the base with one or two self-tapping screws. As you can see from the handset wiring diagram below, the microphone and the phone capsule are connected to each other by three color actuators.

One wire is common for the microphone and the telephone capsule (black in the diagram), the second for the microphone (green), and the third for the telephone capsule (red). When replacing a microphone or capsule, the polarity of their connection must be observed, otherwise the microphone effect will appear. This is when the speaker hears his own voice on the receiver or a whistle may appear.

Landline Telephone Handset Cord Repair

In stationary telephones, the tubes are connected to the phone body with a twisted cord with two RJ-11 4P4C plugs at the ends. During a conversation, the coiled cord of the handset constantly bends and eventually frays where it exits the plug, usually on the side of the handset. The phone first starts to "wheeze", and there comes a moment when you and your interlocutor do not hear each other. The most likely reason bad connection is damage to the coiled telephone cord. Although it could also be caused by a carbon microphone or a telephone capsule.

To check the cord, you need to wiggle it at the point where it exits the handset or phone case. If you notice that in some positions the connection becomes stable, then in this place the telephone cord is frayed. It is better to replace the cord with a new one. But you can do without going to the store by using the technology of crimping RJ-11, RJ-45 with or without tongs.

To remove the RJ-11 plug from the handset, press the RJ-11 plug retainer to its base with your finger and remove the plug from the handset. Then pull out the lamellas a little and remove the cord from the plug, shorten it by 1.5-2 cm (cut off the damaged piece of cord), remove the insulating tube by a length of 5 mm. It is not necessary to strip the insulation from the conductors. Then you need to insert the prepared cord into the RJ-11 plug until it stops, observing the color scheme for connecting the wires. If you don't remember how the cord was inserted into the RJ-11 plug, you can see how it was inserted into it at the other end of the cord. If you removed both ends of the cord from the RJ-11 plugs and do not know how to insert the ends of the wire correctly, then the crimp color scheme presented below will help you.

RJ-11 telephone plug crimp color scheme

The RJ-11 plugs on the handset cord are color-coded and rotated 180 degrees. For example, if on the 1st contact of the RJ-11 plug at one end of the cord there was a white wire, and on the 4th - yellow, then at the second end of the cord on the 1st contact of the RJ-11 plug there should be yellow, and on the 4th - m contact - white. The photo shows the color scheme for crimping a coiled cord for a landline phone.

I have done this kind of repair of twisted telephone cords many times, especially at a time when such fixed telephones with tubes connected with twisted cords had just appeared, and it was not possible to buy a new twisted cord.

When buying an RJ-11 plug for a cord, pay attention to its width, which should be 7.5 mm, since an RJ-11 plug for a line has exactly the same appearance, but its width is 9.5 mm.

Background during a conversation

If a conversation on the phone is accompanied by a low-frequency background of 50 Hz or a radio transmission, then one of the reasons for this phenomenon may be poor insulation between one of the conductors of the telephone pair with the ground. Then the symmetry of the wires is violated, and the interference signals induced on them from the nearby electrical and radio lines at the ends of the telephone pair are not mutually canceled. More often this can be observed in rainy weather, when the humidity is high, due to which the insulation resistance of the wires decreases. It is difficult to find this malfunction on your own without a high-voltage ohmmeter, it is better to call the signalmen. They have to fix the problem free of charge.

Telephone extension cord

Sometimes it becomes necessary to move the phone to another place, and the length of the cord plugged into the outlet does not allow doing this. Not everyone will want to dismantle and install the outlet in a new place. Dismantling marks in addition can spoil the appearance of the wall. The simplest telephone extension cord will allow you to solve this problem. You can buy a ready-made extension cord, they are different colors, any length and with different types of plugs and sockets at the ends. It is not difficult to make a telephone extension cord on your own from a plug, socket and a piece of any wire.

On the left in the photo is a homemade telephone extension cord, which I made a long time ago for the convenience of repairing phones. The socket is screwed to a spool, onto which the extension cord is wrapped for easy storage. The wire is taken stranded, and its two pieces are twisted together by hand. On the right is a factory-made telephone extension cord for modern phones with RJ11 plugs at the ends. To install it, you need to remove the standard wire from the telephone set and the socket, and then insert the longer one.

If you don't have a plug and socket at hand, you can build up, or lengthen, a standard wire by making an insert anywhere from any double wire or two single conductors twisted together. A wire of any cross-section, stranded or solid, is suitable for insertion. To do this, a standard wire is cut into two parts, preferably at a distance of 10-15 cm from the plug, if suddenly in the future you need to restore it in its original form by pressing the connector. The connection of the ends is done according to the above technology. If the insert is made of a stranded thin wire or a thick single-core wire, then the tinsel is not bent, but folded with the stripped conductor in parallel and wrapped around a wire with a diameter of about 0.5 mm.

Modern cords for phones began to be made not of tinsel, but of an ordinary stranded wire of a rather small cross section. The wire that I cut to demonstrate the technology with photographs turned out to have only 6 conductors with a diameter of 0.2 mm. Such thin wires need to be connected using a special technology.

The insulation is removed with a shift, as shown in the photo. Next, the wires need to be tinned and the thinner conductor is wound around the thicker one. If the wires are of approximately the same diameter, then they are simple twisted. Then the place of twisting is soldered with solder. If you are not familiar with soldering technology, you can visit the site page How to solder with a soldering iron. Now you need to insulate the connection with several turns of electrical tape. To give an aesthetic look, one of the conductors can be bent and then insulated. The connection of the second pair is done in the same way. As you can see, the result is a reliable and beautiful connection.

As an example, I decided to demonstrate how you can lengthen a telephone cord using a single-core wire for electrical wiring, the core diameter of which is 1 mm.

The telephone wires are connected in exactly the same way as described above.

Using the above technology, you can connect the wires of any electrical circuits, conductors in any devices and devices, including computer networks on the Internet.

Laying a telephone line in the apartment

The value of the current flowing through the wires of the communication line does not exceed 10 mA, therefore there are practically no requirements for the cross-section of the conductor, it is enough for the conductor to be 0.1 mm in diameter. Thick cores are made to reduce signal losses with long line lengths and to provide sufficient mechanical strength during switching. Based on this, communication lines can be laid with almost any wire. The main thing is that the conductors run parallel to each other, or be twisted together.

When laying communication lines inside residential and industrial buildings, they usually use a double wire TRP 2 × 0.4 (core diameter - 0.4 mm, cross-section - 0.12 mm 2, resistance - 148 Ohm / km) or TRP 2 × 0, 5 (core diameter - 0.5 mm., Cross-section - 0.21 mm 2, resistance - 94 Ohm / km), with PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation of category CAT1. Signalers call him "noodles".

The use of such a wire is due to its low price and ease of installation. Since the connecting strip of plastic between the conductors is quite wide, you can fasten the wire to the walls by punching it in the center with studs.

If you need to make a turn in the gasket, then the TRP wire simply bends, as shown in the photo. Sometimes a jumper is cut and the conductors are spread apart at the turning point, but this is worse, since the symmetry of the line is broken.

The wire, fixed to the wall with special plastic brackets with studs, looks much better. Brackets are available for different sizes of wires and cables, sometimes they are designed for fastening both round and flat wires.

The dowel-studs of the staples are made of hardened steel and are hammered without bending even into concrete walls.

Recently, often the communication wire is noodles, laid in a cable channel, this allows all the wires (Internet, television cable, intercom, etc.) to be laid together, which simplifies installation and looks beautiful. Cable ducts are available in different sizes, which allows you to lay in them an almost unlimited number of wires.

It is convenient to lay a telephone wire and wires for other purposes inside the floor plinth, in which a cable channel is provided.

Using twisted-pair cable Internet
for telephone line

Nowadays, many have a cable for the Internet in their homes. This cable usually uses only two pairs of the 4 available. Free pairs can be used for a telephone line. To figure out which of the pairs are free, the article on the site will help you Crimping the RJ-45 twisted pair cable for the Internet. For the communication line, one of the free pairs is taken, brown or blue. A twisted pair cable consists of two conductors twisted together. The insulation of one of them is painted in a solid color, and the insulation of the second is white with stripes in the first color.

This is another article from the section about. Today, almost everyone has in their home home phone... Each telephone is connected to a special socket. In this article, we will show you how to connect a telephone jack.

Connecting a telephone socket is not so common. Compared to conventional sockets, they are rarely installed. If you need to install a telephone socket, then we will talk about this in the article.

Types of telephone sockets

Telephone sockets can be of several types. The main types include:

  1. Built-in euro telephone sockets.
  2. External telephone sockets.
  3. Old-style telephone sockets.

These products may differ only appearance... Connecting a telephone socket in this case is practically no different. Now it will be possible to visually examine the telephone sockets:

In this photo you can see that this socket has 4 pins. You will need to connect a telephone contact to these wires. This type of telephone socket must be wall-mounted. Also today you can find built-in telephone sockets. You can see this type of device in the photo below:

As you can see, this design is complex. Here you can see not only the complexity of the design, but also the complexity of the connection. If you need, then you can read about.

Features of connecting a telephone socket

Installing a telephone socket on your own assumes the observance of certain features. If you install a Langard telephone socket, then you no longer need to strip the wires. This product has a special self-cleaning function. In this case, the cable connection will be carried out by turning the mechanism by half a turn. You can see this process in the photo below:

After completing this step, you can pick up the handset and check for a dial tone. If no beep appears, then you should check the polarity. If the phone still does not work, then check the integrity of the contacts.

Connecting a telephone socket according to the scheme

Most telephone jacks have only two contacts. The telephone cable will have the same number of pins. A typical telephone socket contains only two pins, that is, 3 and 4. Sometimes a telephone socket may have unnumbered pins. In any case, you need to be guided by the color coding, which is shown below.

During the development of communications, several standards have been created for connecting fixed telephones to existing lines. Almost all of them are used to some extent in everyday life and at industrial enterprises.

Within the networks of large organizations that have existed for several decades, one can find simultaneously working models of various designs, mounted at different times. The peculiarities of their device must be taken into account before installing and connecting the telephone set.

Purpose and standards of telephone sockets

The main task of the socket is to provide a quick-detachable and reliable connection of telephone sets to the existing communication lines, created by a stationary part - a socket or "mother-contact" and a movable plug inserted into it: "father-contact".

Design features

Any electrical outlet for communication systems consists of:

1. Stand cases made of dielectric materials: plastic or ceramic;

2. spring-loaded metal contacts that ensure reliable passage of network currents into the telephone set through the plug and cord;

3. terminal clamps providing connection of wires from a fixed network.

All these devices are referred to as low-current circuits. They can be manufactured for installation:

1. in a way hidden in the wall;

2. by the overhead method.

Installation features affect the types of installation and connection of sockets, which must be taken into account, combined with the design of the telephones used.

Features of the main standards

For the telephone line, only two wires were previously used, creating a closed circuit for the current path, and inside the socket, two contacts were also used to connect them.

If you cut off the plug and socket and twist or otherwise connect in pairs the metal conductors of the wires of the telephone set and the working network, and then wrap it with a layer of electrical tape, then the connection will work. This principle was used to create a permanent connection through a special tap-off box.

It works reliably even now. Only for its implementation, modern designs of contact systems and reliable methods of their isolation from harmful environmental factors are used.

In modern conditions, the integration of low-current circuits, telephone line systems and computer networks... The equipment for them is constantly updated and modified.

Inside low-current systems, sockets are installed, created according to different RJ standards with several pairs of contacts. They have the technical ability to connect a telephone set. This is often used by specialists, using only two of all available contacts.

An overview of typical models of detachable connections, their types are given in table 1.

Types of Low Current Connector Standards

Differences between connectors

RTShK-4 - telephone socket for four contacts for plug connection with a capacitor

The standard has been in operation since the eighties. The plastic housing of the plug and socket has a dielectric key, which excludes incorrect connection of the electrical circuit.

When several telephones were installed on one line, the corresponding number of parallel-connected RTShK-4 sockets was created. A capacitor with a capacity of 1 stu 1 μF was installed at the end of the line for technical tests and for creating "line busy" effects on the caller's side.

RJ-11 connectors

Now telephones, sockets and plugs are equipped with an RJ series connector, which has the same housing, dimensions and design for connecting one, two, three or four pairs of electrical circuits. However, they can be supplied with different designs of plastic locks with special cutouts, which exclude the installation of separate RJ11, 14, 25 plugs into RJ45 connectors.

They must be taken into account when connecting various manipulators. Otherwise, you may not learn electrical contact or even break the connector, break its body.

The RJ11 interface is designed exclusively for a two-wire telephone line. It can be used not only for one telephone, but used by several devices assembled in blocks for various devices.

The RJ11 connector is widely used not only in stationary models, but also to connect the base of radiotelephones, allowing you to talk at a certain distance from it due to the technologies of radio transmission of signals between the handset and the base over the air through an electronic receiver and transmitter.

Combined RJ-11 connectors with RTShK-4

The method of connecting telephone sets through combined adapters equipped with combined connectors is implemented in a composite design that simplifies installation with an additional accessory.

RJ-14, RJ-25 connectors

Their appearance corresponds to the previous RJ11 design. The difference lies in the number of contacts and possible differences between plastic locks.

RJ-45 connectors

They are created for low-current circuits with four pairs of contacts, allowing the use of circuits for connecting complex communications and computer systems used in modems, laptops and other similar devices.

Methods for marking switching circuits

The contacts of the sockets are connected in accordance with a previously developed diagram. The design of the telephone set most often allows disregarding the polarity of the connection. However, for some devices this is technically unacceptable: they may not work correctly or fail.

To facilitate installation and troubleshooting in the circuit, manufacturers mark the contacts. It can be carried out:

1.application of numbers near the contacts or their designation on the wiring diagram:

2. highlighting wires in a certain color.

In practice, there are several ways to switch wires. They are shown in tables 2, 3, 4.

Connection diagrams for telephone sockets and plugs

Let's analyze the issue using the example of the RTShK-4 connector, which is used for communication not only with the end subscriber, but also for an additional line - communication between the secretary and the director.

One pair of contacts is used for the line coming from the PBX, and the second one is used to organize additional communication via the service channel.

The diagram shows the installation site for a 1 μF tank with an operating voltage of 160 volts. Now they refused such a connection, they stopped mounting the capacitor. This practically does not affect the quality of communication.

The designs of the RTShK-4 connectors are already outdated. They are gradually being replaced by new, more convenient devices that take up little space. But, the electrical connection diagram has not fundamentally changed. For one telephone to work, it is still enough to simply create a closed electrical circuit with a two-core PBX line.

It is customary to combine modern telephone sockets into consolidated blocks used in combination with other communication devices: computer equipment, fiber-optic cable networks, electrical devices.

Such blocks are concentrated in one place, convenient for maintenance and hidden from prying eyes.

Hazards of the telephone network

No matter what the "experienced" communication electricians, who were "beaten" by current from the voltage of the automatic telephone exchange, safety issues need to be paid attention to.

The telephone socket is usually connected with the resting voltage of the communication line. Its value is about 60 volts. If you manage to catch the moment incoming call, then a variable sinusoid with an amplitude of up to 120 volts passes through the network.

It may well create a path of current through the body of the connecting master. If the hands are wet or sweat appears on the body, then the conductivity will increase dramatically. The painful sensations will become very unpleasant, they will cause convulsive reactions. It is better to avoid them by protecting your hands with thin dielectric gloves and observing other technical measures of safety rules.

Methods for installing telephone sockets

Taking into account certain technical points, telephone sockets are mounted in the same way as ordinary electrical ones. These points have already been described in the article:. Check it out: preparation and fastening methods for open and closed wiring systems are already disclosed there.

You will also find useful material on this issue in the article for the installation of electrical wiring and low-current circuits. This method is used when the repair is finished, dirty work cannot be done, and telephone wiring must be laid nicely and neatly.

Modern plastic cable channels can be selected for any room design. They are equipped with numerous accessories including electrical and telephone sockets.

Thus, in order to install and correctly connect a telephone socket, it is necessary to select its model in terms of dimensions and technical specifications corresponding to your telephone set, and also take into account the recommendations set forth in the proposed material.

Today, every person has cell phones. However, stationary devices have not gone anywhere from apartments, offices and administrative buildings. For their correct installation, as well as the installation of modems and faxes, a telephone jack is required. We will tell you about its types, installation methods and connection diagram below.

Types of telephone sockets

A communication socket for a low-current network is the place where the phone is connected to the communication network. Outwardly, it represents small box, usually white. Sometimes it is called that - "telephone box".

By the number of connectors distinguish between single-socket and multi-socket boxes. Of the many connectors, some are worth highlighting:

  • RJ 11 - has two wires. It is mainly used to connect to line telephone networks.
  • RJ 14 - with four pins and the same number of wires. This connector is used in most types of telephones. To connect equipment in a building where several lines need to be connected, contact # 1 and # 4 are used.
  • RJ 25 - there are three pairs of contacts here. Self-connection is fraught with special difficulties, so it is better to contact a specialist. The third and fourth contacts are involved in the connection.
  • RJ 9 - this type of connector connects the handset to the device itself.
  • RTShK 4 - in the old Soviet communication boxes there are four contacts and a key. This model assumes an all-in-one type of connection. If there are several such outlets in the room, they usually form a small circuit. A capacitor is used to close it.

A two-wire wire is usually used to connect an outlet in an apartment. In administrative and office premises, a four-core or six-core cable can be used. Sometimes a twisted pair cable can also come up to the outlet.

RJ 11 telephone socket connection diagram

In detail describe the connection diagram the most common connected box. It will be as follows:

Connecting the socket in a hidden way

To carry out the connection work, you will need the following materials and tools:

The communication cable is first connected to the installation site. The cable can be run along a plinth, in a plastic box or a stab.

Connection steps:

  1. First, we select a crown for the perforator with a diameter equal to the size of the telephone box.
  2. With a pencil we outline the outlines of the outlet, after which we drill a hole in the wall.
  3. We install the telephone box into the wall and fix it with fittings.
  4. To connect, you need a piece of cable no more than 10 cm. The rest can be cut off.
  5. We clean the cable and make the connection. We fix the installation housing of the telephone box with spacer screws.
  6. Install the outer frame and overlays.

Sockets are designed to connect electrical appliances of different power, in any room, there are also low-power ones for turning on specific devices, in particular, telephone ones. What connection is needed and how many wires are there - details below.

Features of the telephone socket

Despite the development cellular communication, many people continue to use wired telephone connection for different reasons. In order to connect a landline telephone, it is required not only to lay a cable from the telephone exchange to the house, but also to install an outlet to which the device is directly connected.

Peculiarities:

  1. Traditionally, the body of the telephone socket is made of plastic, in rare cases, of ceramics.
  2. In the housing of the telephone socket, there are terminals to which the wire is connected, which is drawn in the apartment from the telephone cable.
  3. The phone plug is securely fixed thanks to the spring-loaded contacts.

There are also more modern connection schemes for fixed telephones, which use not only outdated 4-channel, but also more modern four-wire connectors for connection. To connect in an apartment or a small office, you can use 1 telephone and, as a result, 1 two-core wire.

If you need to install several telephones for 1 number, then a 4- or 6-core cable is inserted into the room from the dashboard.

The telephone socket can be installed almost anywhere in the room, but taking into account that it is convenient to connect a telephone to it. The telephone socket must be installed so that a telephone can be connected to it without any problems. The telephone socket can be installed on the floor, on the wall, and even in the electrical panel in the driveway. The telephone socket must be protected from moisture, dust, and damage and ensure a reliable connection between the telephone and the telephone line.

The telephone socket can be connected without any problems, but you must first determine what type of connection you will need. Sockets can be built-in (euro socket) or external, installed on any surface, most often on walls.

In addition to installing the outlet, certain conditions must be met:

  1. The cable introduced into the room should be stripped of insulation at a distance of 3 cm.
  2. Bare wires are inserted into a telephone socket (old model) and connected to 2 terminals.
  3. Then the socket cover is closed and the plug from the phone is inserted into the socket.

If the phone does not work, then you can try switching the cable to a different pair of pins. If a hidden-type telephone socket is installed, which is mounted in the wall, it is necessary to make a recess to install it, and also to knock it out for laying the cable.

First, a wire is connected to an outlet of this type, after which the box is installed to the wall using dowels and self-tapping screws or spacer screws.

After that, the contacts of the socket are checked using a multimeter and, if everything is in order, then a decorative overlay is fixed on top. If a person is poorly versed in the installation of wiring, not only electrical, but also telephone, especially when connecting several phones, you should invite a specialist who will correctly connect all the devices.

Socket connection rules

An outlet is a device that serves to connect all equipment to the mains. The socket consists of 2 main parts - an outer plastic case and a working part, which is installed on an insulating base and includes spring-loaded contacts, terminals for connecting wires, as well as fasteners that allow it to be securely fixed.

Unplugging the outlet includes several basic steps:

  1. First, you should turn off the voltage, this is done by turning off the machines on the dashboard.
  2. If this is not possible for various reasons, then you should wear rubber gloves.
  3. The electric wires should be routed through the hole in the socket (if it is not there, then it should be drilled).
  4. After that, the socket should be installed, it is fixed in the wall with the help of building plaster.
  5. The ends of the wires are stripped at a distance of about 1–1.5 cm, after which it remains to connect them to the terminals and securely fix.

The working part of the socket is put in place and, depending on the design, it is fixed with screws or special mounting lugs. After that, it remains to install the decorative frame, and fix it with a screw.

If the socket is grounded, then you should be careful not to confuse the wires.

Typically, the ground wire has a sheath color of yellow-green, yellow, or green. The "ground" wire is connected in the same way as usual - by the factory to the terminal. The installation of two outlets located next to each other is carried out as follows - the part of the cable used for wiring is cut to the required length. First, the first socket is installed, the power supply and wires from the cable are fixed in the terminal blocks. The cut cable is routed through the cable duct or groove to the second outlet, and its ends are also fixed in place. After that, it remains to fix the sockets and install the decorative strip.

The nuances of connecting a telephone socket

Connecting a telephone socket is usually not difficult, the main thing is to first understand their types, since now there are several of them, for example, the rj11 models, which are widely used for a home phone. This socket has only 2 contacts. For the phone to work, it is necessary to correctly connect the contacts to the telephone cable (pinout).

If the telephone is installed after all repairs have been carried out, then in this case the telephone socket is installed directly on the wall:

  • 2 holes are made in the wall;
  • Dowels are inserted;
  • The socket is screwed to the wall;
  • The wire to it is retracted into the cable channel, after which it is attached with screws to the contacts.

If you need to install an additional one to connect a second telephone set, then you should connect 2 sockets with a wire, one, for example, in one room, the second in another. The main thing when connecting the wires is to observe the polarity so that the two sockets work correctly.

If there is no possibility or desire to carry out the installation of a new line and a second outlet, you can purchase a radiotelephone with 2 handsets so that you can talk from different rooms.

All work is best done with rubber gloves, although the voltage in the telephone network is small, but in the event of a call, the voltage can reach 120 volts, although of course this is not fatal, but unpleasant sensations are guaranteed.

Instructions: how to connect a home phone

If the telephone line cables are brought into the house, then it will not be difficult to connect the home telephone. To do this, you need to come to the office of the company, where you write an application for connecting the phone. In addition to connecting, if universal fiber-optic communication lines are brought into the house, you can connect the Internet and interactive television together with the phone.

The options are:

  1. The connection of landline phones is carried out by connecting the plug and socket, moreover, modern models are now used.
  2. The old type RShTK-4 is practically not used anywhere now.
  3. There are universal models of sockets and plugs that allow you to interconnect different standards.

The laying of the telephone wire from the dashboard to the apartment or other room, as a rule, is carried out by signalmen, and then, depending on preferences, the phone is installed anywhere in the room.

But, it should be borne in mind that if the phone is multifunctional, then it will need power supply, and it is advisable to install it near an electrical outlet.

If after connecting the phone it does not work, you should check all the wires, sometimes the unsoldering in the outlet may be to blame, it is worth re-soldering them to other contacts, so everything should work. Usually the phone connection diagram is shown in the instructions, but sometimes it happens so that it is absent. In this case, you have to seek the help of a specialist.
