It was not for nothing that they called it "Kallithea" - "beautiful view". Bright turquoise of the sea, a spectacular white-sandy beach and rich green forests - this is how this resort town on the Aegean Sea looks like. However, not only its natural beauty attracts numerous tourists every year - people also travel to Kallithea, located in a rather picturesque place, to have a pleasant time and to see archaeological values, which, however, are numerous throughout Greece.

How to get there yourself

It is not for nothing that the Kassandra Peninsula is considered the most densely populated region of Halkidiki - there are 44 towns on the territory of 50 kilometers. Kallithea, located in the eastern part of the peninsula, approximately in the middle, is considered one of the busiest resorts here. It is 90 kilometers from Thessaloniki and Macedonia Airport, and you can get to Kallithea in a little over an hour. If you wish, you can take a taxi, or you can go by bus, the routes of which run here regularly.

Infrastructure

Kalithea has a well-developed infrastructure - there are many inexpensive taverns where you can always have a delicious dinner, shops and souvenir shops work, there is a chain supermarket "Masutis", and there are even a couple of fur shops. There are also plenty of hotels here - however, most of them are located outside the village.

Beach

The beach of Kallithea is comfortable, pretty and cozy - it is located in the Gulf of Torono, so the sea here is almost always calm, calm, transparent, at least there are almost no strong waves. Very often from here you can see not only the neighboring peninsula, Sithonia, - if in clear weather you climb to the towering outskirts of the town, you can see more distant Athos. Clean sandy coast, sea without large stones; the beach is perfectly equipped for a comfortable pastime - sun loungers, umbrellas, cafes and bars. It is amazingly beautiful here - the sandy coast is beautifully shaded by the greenery of the palms, eucalyptus and coniferous trees spreading right behind it. However, there is one "but" - the Kallithea beach is also surrounded by small mountains, so you have to go down to it by a rather steep staircase.

What to see?

Kallithea is a relatively small town, one might even say a village. It was founded not so long ago as most Greek cities - at the beginning of the twentieth century (it was founded by Russian monks from the monastery of St. Panteleimon), and therefore it has neither a rich history, nor solid historical monuments. Nevertheless, there are still several attractions here - the excavations of the ancient temple of Zeus-Amun (which was discovered during the construction of another hotel in 1969 and, as scientists assume, was built in the 5th century BC), the temple of Dionysius, and also the so-called cave of Nymphs. And in memory of the time when Christianity came to Greece, there is a small church erected not far from the destroyed temples in 1865.

Young people love to hang out here - after all, in the vicinity of Kallithea there are many bars and nightclubs that will allow you not to get bored until dawn. The largest disco is Ahoy, it is located two kilometers from the resort of Kallithea. The most active "club" month is August, at the height of the tourist season Greek pop stars often come here with concerts. However, due to the fact that all the clubs are located outside the city, in Kalithea itself it is quite quiet, so it is quite suitable for people who prefer a quiet holiday - for example, you can rent a hotel in the center of the town. An equestrian club, go-kart or bowling alley can be a great (and less turbulent) alternative to dancing.

Once upon a time in this very place the ancient inhabitants of the peninsula worshiped Zeus and Dionysus, for a little over a hundred years monks lived here, but today the town of Kallithea is one of the most popular resorts of the Halkidiki peninsula. He warmly welcomes visiting guests, offering them everything he can give - excellent beaches, hotels for every budget, delicious Greek cuisine, entertainment to their liking, and even archaeological sites - in a word, everything that is for many tourists synonymous with the word "rest".

The small but cozy and comfortable village of Kallithea in Halkidiki is quite a popular holiday destination among tourists. It has all the necessary infrastructure for a comfortable beach holiday, comfortable sandy beaches and a good selection of hotels and apartments. The village is not big, it is located right on the seashore, but to get to the beach, you have to cross the road and go downhill.

As such, there is no embankment in Kalithea, and to get to the sea, you need to go down a small path across this road. It is convenient to descend, but it will take 300 meters to climb back, in the heat it is difficult, especially for the elderly. The road is not loaded, the traffic on it is calm, you can cross the "zebra".

There are many taverns and various shops in Kalithea, both grocery and souvenir. In the evenings it is nice to walk here, sit in some stylish tavern with a cup of coffee and get acquainted with the national Greek cuisine. In some taverns, the owners arrange Greek evenings with national music and dances, which will pleasantly brighten up the evening for any company. There are some creative taverns that offer stunning sea views. For the sake of such beauties and views, Greeks from neighboring villages often come to Kallithea for dinner. At the same time, the village itself is quiet and not partying, there are no discos and noisy events in it. All noisy bars and youth restaurants are located on the outskirts and do not cause any inconvenience. or you can safely take a hotel anywhere in the village, not necessarily on the first line, because to the sea from the farthest point no more than a kilometer.

Kalithea on Kassandra has an excellent sea, there are almost never waves, because all beaches are protected from the winds by mountains. Moreover, the entry into the sea is gentle, which is very convenient for families with children. The sea here is very beautiful, the water is clean and transparent, and the beaches are equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay: sun loungers, umbrellas, changing rooms and a fresh shower. If sun loungers and umbrellas are not included in your hotel price, then you will have to pay about 6-8 euros per set for them. You can also stay on the beach with your own umbrella on your bedspread or towel. During the high season, there are many tourists with children on the beaches of Kallithea, which may not please everyone.

To travel around the area, it is best to rent a car or book an excursion. There are not so many attractions in Halkidiki, and those that are, are not close, and public transport will not always please with its schedule.

Attractions: what to see in Kalithea and nearby

The main attraction that attracts tourists to Kallithea is the ruins of the ancient temple of Ammon Zeus. Archaeologists have established that even in the Bronze Age, people used this place to worship the gods. Later, during Roman times, baths and an amphitheater were built near the temple. The ancient ruins were found by chance - at the end of the 60s they began to build a hotel here and made an important discovery during the work. Next to the ruins is a cave, which was discovered a little later. It functioned as a sanctuary for Dionysus. The place was chosen by the ancient people because of the springs - they took water from them for rituals.

There are always many tourists going to the Kallithea observation deck. This is the place to meet the sunsets and enjoy those "beautiful views". Near the observation deck there is a public garden and a church in honor of St. Nicholas. In half an hour and even faster from Kallithea, you can walk to the ancient Afytos. It is known as the most beautiful city in Kassandra, with views no less picturesque than in Kallithea. There are many historical houses and a church preserved in Afitos, and an ethnographic museum works.
